It's a shame he didn't apply at Akron and do something with those soccer playing Nancies :P

There is another coach who will be in Pasadena tonight that left
MSU, LSU, Miami Dolphins and now at the Tide. Although a very good coach he did not exactly leave those programs with the players in mind, let alone
"I be here for 4 years". The Tide may win, but I'll root for the Longhorns
and Mack Brown (class guy). Saban is a great example of after me your are

How many of those other coaches can say "There's a good chance you'll be playing on ESPN come December?"

02 warhawk,

What are you hearing from the UWW people, aren't they a little concerned since everything that anyone does ends up on a blog or board of some kind that is not for public knowledge?

I'm hearing the same thing you're reading on the WIAC board. rumors/speculation/hearsay...etc....We'll find out down the road what's truely going to happen.

If it gets posted on the internet it must be true, right  ;D  ;)

I am with you, go horns.  Bear Bryant must be spinning in his grave with Saban coaching Bama.  I wanted to see Jim Bates get the Dolphins job when they hired that POS Saban.

Bleed Purple- I could care less what happens to Wisconsin-Walmart anymore than I cared about Rowan when they built up and then flamed out. Did I say one bad thing after the Stagg Bowl, no. We don't grasp at straws here boy, but I'll let you two'fers do it. You won, get used to people not liking you.

Win three in a row and I'll bow down to your program, For now your just an other Ithica. Lance has a nice record at WW but I'm thinking he'll be around as long as Gags trying to beat Kehres. Can you keep it up for two decades?? I think Lance's ego is too big to stay at WW long

PS-Off to see if the Raider women can go to 13-0, now thats fun.

BTW-This is the OAC board isn't it? Don't you guys have better places to be?

This post was way too fun to resist breaking down. In responding to the bolded parts of the quote above:

1. Do you seriously think I have to "get used to" people not liking me?  ;)

2. Not really looking for you to bow down to anything. And I doubt you would if UW-W won three in a row. Mount has won an amazing TEN national championships. Pretty sure you would mention that in lieu of "bowing down" should UW-W ever win 3 National Championships in a row.

3. Apparently the Raider women's basketball team was no more capable of going undefeated than the football team.  But I do hope you had fun.

4. Better? Probably. But the OAC Board ain't so bad...  :D

Yah.......Seventies has abnormally long, and weird shaped arms from patting himself on the back all the time!   ;)

The fact is.....if you are interested in reaching the pinnacle in your profession (coaching at a higher level), you have to get yourself out there and available.  It's just the way it works in all professions.

I hope he gets another job, and takes his coaching staff with him.  Bleed Purple can be the new guy at the helm.  Now THAT would bring down the YOU..DUB...DUB machine!   ;D

Be careful what you wish for Skunks... :D

Refresh my memory, did I spend the last year gloating on the WIAC board. No, that might have been construed as immature.  :-\

Where is the gloating? The last I checked there has been a lot of conversation here that directly pertains to UW-W. It seems like you want to be able to throw out terms like "twofers" without any banter coming back your way. Seems like you should expect some back and forth.

I acknowledged Mount's 10 Championships.  UW-W has not accomplished what Mount has accomplished in football over the years and no UW-W fan has claimed they have.

Where's all the cheeseheads?

Scouring the web for other jobs LL has applied for.

Considering the way many of these coaching changes take place at the higher levels of the NCAA, I think it's important to distinguish between a coach deliberately placing his hat in the ring (like Tuberville has done with Texas Tech) and a school reaching out to someone to guage interest. It sounds like LL did have a formal interview at Grand Valley - that's kind of a special place where coaches are certainly gaining strong reputations & moving up to the big time in short order. Hard for any ambitious coach to say no to that; no real fan could fault him for doing it either. With Central Missouri, we really don't know if LL took the effort to apply or that they called him, do we? LL coached in the MIAA at UN-O, so for all we know, the AD at UCM knows a bit about Leipold and decided to give him a call to see if he had any interest. Back in the day, I understand something similar happened to LK with Princeton or one of the Ivy's.  :-\  Some web site (footballcoachscoop) has a source and they get wind of it and decide to report it as an interview, when in fact it wasn't even close to an interview. IMHO, comparing recent football success, a move from UWW to UCM is closer to a lateral move than a step up. I'm willing to bet the latter scenerio occured. Leipold is a smart guy and undoubtedly realizes UCM isn't a real stepping stone to the big time (afterall, it took 13 years as a HC for the guy they're trying to replace to make it "up" to Sam Houston State). Out of professional courtesy he "talks" to the AD, but tells him he's not interested. It still gets reported as an interview & we all discuss it here. Not saying that happened, but could very well have happened something like that. I'm not going to rush to judgement without all the facts on the table.

...you mean, they hope to be there in 4 years (some do care about won/lost records!!)  ;)

Actually, many of the coaches have been using this line a lot recently, "come play here and be a star immediately rather than go to Whitewater and likely play on the punt return or kickoff team for two years." If you don't believe it, look around the WIAC for former Warhawk bench player transfers now playing key roles on other teams. There are a number of them.

reality check

1.  Although I'm coaching girls basketball, I'd really love it if we didn't talk about it here.  There's a board for that on this site and I promise to never visit it but whomever wants to post there is welcomed to.

2.  Can we stop poking the UWW'ers?  If you don't want them here, stop harassing them.  If you harass them, expect these results.

3.  Am I crazy thinking that a D-III kid really shouldn't care about playing on ESPN?  Is the mystique of playing on ESPN the appropriate angle?  I think a kid would pick a UWW, MUC or ______ because of a chance to play in a great program for a national championship regardless of the sports cable network that covers it.

4.  I'm sure the UWW faithful are not thrilled with Leipold's name being thrown around for multiple vacancies but they understand it.  I'm sure it has an impact on recruiting.  I'm sure if he stays he'll still be able to lure plenty of talent.  I would think the average recruit could hop on the internet and see UWW was a great program before Leipold's arrival and given the WIAC system, it has every chance to be the same program and more if LL moves on to greener (the color of money) pastures.

5.  Also could we please stop talking about women's basketball?   ;)

Good points. I actually think the ESPN angle worked really well about 5 years ago. Although we know the top D3 teams, nationally many don't. The exposure was the best part.  I think ESPN matters to a few, but not as many as one would think.

The rings do help.
