Raider 68

This board is quiet today, many are still wondering about the Nat. Championship game or have moved on!

RC, you are +K for 15% of your posts, that's great, You won
the Pick-ems for 2009, your alma mater will be good next year
and should be a playoff team. Things are looking great for you! :)

By the way a +k for you, some of us are struggling in that department

The Canton Repository reported today that Coach Wakefield ,the Raiders offensive line coach , has applied for the head coaching job at Perry High School in Stark County.  Coach Wakefield is the former head coach there.  He has been an outstanding coach for Mount Union and  in my humble opinion, the man second most responsible for the Purples great run .

Agree great coach, and there are 13 other applicants, some real good ones as well. I would think he will be in the top mix.

All the best to Coach Wakefield!

I don't know why Wake would want to go back to Perry.  It seemed to me he was treated very shabbily the last two years he was there.  But if he wants it, more power to him.  If he gets the job the Panthers will be back among the Federal League elite in two seasons.

I can see why he might want to go back. It seems to me Perry is a sleeping giant; they have a large enrollment, good facilities, a very supportive fan base and administration and a lot of good athletes. Anyone who follows Stark County track will tell you there is speed at that school. I am sure Coach Wakefields exposure to the offensive creativity and , frankly, brilliance of LK  over the last several years will serve the Panthers well. He has also been infected with winning and we all know how contagious that  is.

Wakefield is a pretty aggressive coach and in these days of kissing the player's fannies and being nice to parents, I don't know if he can survive long. No argument that he is a fine coach with every quality to bring Perry to the top. Winning does conquer all, but the days of loud aggressive coaches are waning, unfortunately.  I am not for abusing players, but discipline is a prelude to success, it is just how much your school board will accept these days.
Leavitt got fired this morning for something that happened in my practices every day.  We left our helmets on at halftime, just in case we were the one closest to coach when he began or finished his diatribe...

As a note on LL looking at other jobs, I think we are being a bit two-faced here.  We Mounties always took it as a sort of badge of honor when LK's name showed up in the news when other jobs opened.  He was not out pursuing anything, however take it as a compliment that a high level program likes and is interested in your guy.

Off topic, but i'm currently layering up in hopes of not freezing to death at Paul Brown stadium to watch the Bengals make up for last weeks embarassment. Last time they won a playoff game I was getting ready for pre-school. WHO DEY!!

I think there is a difference.  In LK's case it appeared that the other schools came calling and he didn't take interviews (that the public knew of, not as much internet news back then).  With LL, it appears that he is searching out.  Not holding anything against LL if that is what he wants, just wondering if there will be any fall out at UWW if he leaves, or if he stays and how this affects future recruiting.

I would agree.  Nothing against LL for inquiring about other coaching positions, but I am curious (as I'm sure others close to the UWW program are) as to what UWW adminisrators, alumni and other fans view this.

I would be surprized if Coach Leipold stays at UWW for more than one year. It is one thing to be sought out for a HC assignment, it is another
to throw one's name in the mix of candidates. UWW has a Mount alum
on staff waiting in the wings,  should Coach Leipold take another
assignment.

UWW had already appeared in two Stagg Bowls when LL took the helm. It was on a roll before he got there, has continue on a roll and, I suspect, will continue on a roll after he is gone.

Don't automatically assume the HC job goes to Coach Z if an opening occurs and they hire in-house.  DC Borland has been there for 8 years and has HC experience also, (although in two sports other than football) has captained one of the best defenses in D-3 for the last 5 seasons and would probably be interested in the job.  Just saying, it could be a horse race.

You are probably right.  Players go to the School in DIII more for the Program, rather than the HC.  Different than what UF is dealing with right now with Meyer's "Leave of Absence" or USF and TT's coaching changes.

reality check

If LL left and it came down to Borland and Zebrowski, I doubt that Borland's experience as the HC of Baker University's women's softball team will be one of the major factors in the decision.  I agree that both would be worthy candidates but the notion that one's experience as a track and field HC or women's softball HC would sway the decision-making process in his favor might be a stretch.

Isn't it great that we have nothing better to do then discuss the hypothetical coaching candidates of a non-OAC school who has not actually lost their coach?!?

When's the next college football game again?  (And don't say the Senior Bowl!)
