I've been to the Golden Lamb a couple times as it's the only place in Lebanon.

Setting is old and charming.  Unfortunately so are the waitresses and even more so the clientele.

Food's good though.

Sounds like its owned by the Wings Warehouse people from Alliance..

One of my former teammates at Cap, Travis Everhart, has applied for the Cap job.  Spoke to him the other day.  Has a letter of recommendation from Jim Collins, which probably carries a lot of weight.

Some of you might scoff because he was the OC at Hiram a few years ago when they were winless (as usual).  However, that small snapshot doesn't do justice to his entire resume.  He was a successful HS Coach and was at IUP and a few other places where they were successful.  He spent last season at Kent as an assistant.

He is an alum, so the program would mean a lot more to him than an outsider.  We'll have to see how it all plays out.

Other than that, I haven't heard any names.

JK,

Do you think Cap is looking for a talented, experienced alum as their first priority?

Raider, the question is, what are they lookin for?  Hell give the alumn a shot the guy obviously loves the place or he wouldn't be interested.  There are a lot of DI guys out there interested in the job that are out of work right now.  But you know the first chance they get they are going to hop back in.  A guy that is an alumn and has a vested interest is going to be proud to be there and will work his tail off.  I mean this guy had about as much success at Hiram as anyone could.  Did his best rendetion of making chicken salad out of chicken ****.

Small but Slow

Limited success at Hiram shouldn't go against him.  If he has support from the right people at Cap. And shares the vision of administration he may get his shot.  Many successful hc's struggled as coordinators or even hc's before finding the right match.  Cap has had success recruiting good athletes over the past decade.  Perhaps administration will work better with a coach they feel is their man.

JK

From my discussion with him the other day, that is the question...

Is the administration going to support him?  That's his first concern.  Apparently there was some push-back from some on trying to get certain recruits into school and a general apathy amongst some others on the board.

I know Travis loves Capital, but if he doesn't feel like he'll have the administration's support, he won't take the job, even if offered.

Anyone heard of potential coaching changes at either JCU or B-W?

There's only one coach that could bring Hiram out of it's "eon-long" drought.....

I have had some communication with Travis Everhart as well.  I have nothing new to add to what JK has said.  Sorry for my redundancy.

Personally, I would love to see Travis get the job, if he can make a decent livable wage, no reason to believe that he wouldn't stay there as long as he could.

Some of you guys are brutal! ;D  Just some "random" thoughts I have regarding this.  While, indeed, Hiram has not had a very good football program for a long time, still, the very fact that it offers one is good.  I go back to points I've often put forth in similar discussions.  Hiram is similar to our Olivet - if you review Olivet's longtime history, the football program has not done that well in regards to the W-L columns.  However, the opportunities that program offers to its student-athletes (and all the other philosophical attributes that mark a football or any sports program) as well as what it shares with the student body are worthy, along with its longstanding historical tradition of the sport at that school since 1884.  Certainlly, Olivet is never going to be a powerhouse (the same can be said for Northwestern as for years -actually decades - people called for them to be kicked out of the Big Ten, yet they are indeed competitive now and not to be taken lightly by any team there), yet at Olivet, its administration have made the commitment to the program and they have improved overall during the last decade or so (with the exception of the last two years, 3 years ago they won the MIAA and made the NCAA playoffs - although a new coaching staff is in place for this year).

As far as coaching positions at Hiram, for someone to go there all depends on what their longterm goals and aspirations are.  Someone who is not looking for a "steppingstone" stop, can indeed make a positive contribution to such a program and especially for the football players there in many ways.  And while the school will most likely never be a team that might challenge for the league title on a routine basis, it is not impossible to have it improve.  Obviously, that won't happen overnight and make take years to even make some strides, but, again, that happened at Olviet over the last 30+ years and is not impossible anywhere.  Besides, for some young(er) coach to go to Hiram - even if they have plans to "move on" in the future - it is certainly legit that "you have to start somewhere' as that old saying goes and...one can't discount the experience the coach would get during his time there.

Hard to remember, but in the sixties Mount scheduled Hiram for Homecoming more often than not. The Purple Raiders of that day weren't much better and we hoped to beat someone for the Homecoming crowd. (It wasn't always successful)

BTW I've had a couple of friends spend a year or two at Hiram along the career path. They both moved up to high school coaching
