Congrats to Mount ladies on their OAC championship, kinda a big deal beating Dixie

Who is Dixie?

Dixie Jeffers is the Women's coach at Cap.  She is to OAC womens hoops what LK is to football in the OAC... the only multiple National Championship winners still actively coaching in the conference.  :o

or were you being facietious?  ???

Did not know Cap's Women's basketball program has been historically that strong. They were not doubt disappointed!

Any word on the new football HC, or did I miss seeing it?

My understanding on the coaching search is that they want to have a guy in place by early March, and it is indeed early March right now.

During my years at Capital I tried to get the moniker "Dixie Dome" to stick in reference to Capital's Alumni Gym, but it didn't happen.   Then the men's team had a great year and just missed the NCAA tournament going 23-5 with three of those losses being to The College of Westerville by a combined 8 points, so for a while I tried calling it the "Damon Dome" neither stuck but I tried.

Sorry guys, I've been around Ohio high schools sports long enough I've know the legend of Dixie Jeffers from several generations of Capital recruiters. My Dixie signed mini-basketball is next to my LK signed mini-helmet.

My brother was a tremendous Suzy Venet fan (Mounts womens coach and former star in the 90's). He would be very proud of her getting the Raider Ladies back to DIII March Madness.

At the risk of being even less mature than I already am.....BAHAHAHAHA!  +k

Dr. Acula

p.s. Cap's Marty Assmann is officially a two sport athlete...he made his baseball debut in their opener pitching the last inning of a 15-5 win.

Sorry for lame story telling, but its the offseason and little is known by me about search at Cap aside from email from the football alumni association saying they want to name a coach soon.

Great article today in the Beacon Urinal

http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/85933682.html

Good article....however, any change would involve a referendum item being placed before the principals of Ohio's high schools, not the superintendents.  Maybe they surveyed the wrong group.

Problem being that when your as small as Mogadore all there is in your district or sectional in some sports is Christian schools and the very occasional Catholic school, who besides Chanel and Lutheran East aren't much of a threat.

I think if they had asked the coaches and athletes, the response would have been totally different.  I, for one, am against splitting the private schools out of the OHSAA or into their own division.  If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, right?  That's what all you Mount fans keep saying, and the rest of us OAC "sheep," as Carroll Streaks called us, keep professing.  We keep saying that MUC makes the conference BETTER.  Likewise, I feel the private schools make the OAC better.  I just don't know how you could stand up and call yourself "State Champion" if you won a "title" that other schools couldn't compete for.  The inverse to that is to somehow deny a kid going to a private school (usually for a better education than is offered by the local public schools- especially in Ohio's big cities) the opportunity to compete for a state title just because he/ she is going to a place to better him/herself academically (in most- but not all- cases).  Seems pretty hypocritical to me.

What we need to do is stop the active recruiting.  Despite private schools' insitence that it doesn't happen, we all know it does.  If a kid wants to go to a private school, fine, but let them make that decision and let mom and dad pay for it, not have a coach approach a kid and sell them on a better education and then find a rich alum to pay a "scholarship" to get the kid to the school at no cost to the family.  That's the issue here and that's what creates the competitive imbalance.

FWIW...
