Disciplining them isn't really an option because we are limited to one hour practices, two days a week and have exactly three hours of prep until our first game.  We will be lucky to have a couple of organized offensive plays going into game one.

I think being a varsity football coach will actually go against me given the makeup of the league, the kids participating and prep time.

It will be INTERESTING.  Parents video-taped the stretch yesterday...the stretch.

Keep them laughing, make it fun and you will have their attention much longer.  When all else fails, bribe them with food.

Agree, Keeping them positive makes for productive sessions, even if they are limited.  :)

Just remember in that age group, everything after "Good Afternoon", is "Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah"  ;)

I'm not really that worried about it.  I just had happen what I kind of expected to happen: I realized that I needed to throw about 97% of what I know about football out the window.  The bottom line is I'm there to wear my high school football gear while promoting the high school program to the younger kids and have a little fun while collecting $25 a practice (God I wish I made $25 a practice as a high school coach!).

Kyle is returning this fall.  Would like to see him utilized even more than last year.  He's got great hands!

That's what she said!

Spent the weekend at Camp Atterbury, IN with 400+ ROTC Cadets.  Had to play the "that's what she said" game all weekend.  You have NO idea how hard it is to have to watch what you say so it doesn't get "that's what she said"-ed.

no doubt...

For 2010 the Raiders have 6 away games, but do have some key games at home. Hopefully we can see them more if they earn a home field advantage for the playoffs. Having the 1st three games away is rather unsual and the first home game not until October! :(

It is hard enough for MUC to get an opponent for a Home/Away series.  Makes it harder to find one that agrees to have the MUC Home game on a year where we only have 4 Conference Home Games.

Just means that in 2011, MUC will have 6 Home and 4 Away.

I believe it was the 2006 season the Purple Raiders had their first 3 away. If I'm not mistaken they only gave up like 7 points in that 3 games stretch. (I'd head over to Ric's site, to confirm, but this LeBron character is too much fun to watch)

It was 2006 when the Raiders had the first 3 games away and gave up 21 points over 3 games. The next game was in October like they will have in the fall. Still think it not a fan favorite to wait until October, but no one has a choice.

And Mount Union faces off against the juggernaut that is UW-Osh Kosh who sports a 16-6-2 all-time record against high schools.  And Mount Union is no Fon Du Lac High School.

And while we're on the subject of high school programs, they play both John Carroll and Wilma in those other games.

Something tells me the Purple Raiders and their fans will be able to weather the storm and survive until October.  Keep in mind that plenty of fans don't even know the season starts until November.

The issue of Mount playing "high school teams in the OAC" is the reflection of those schools that need to raise their programs to others at the top. JCU for example, has yet to recognize that the current HC should have been removed a few years back as in the case for B-W.

Until those things happen, the Raiders have no choice but to complete in a conference of have and have nots. Fortunately, the playoffs provide diversity of competition.
