ESPN is saying the NFL and Steelers will announce the disciplinary actions to be taken on Ben Roethlisberger.  It seems the only way to truly punish him for his history of indiscretions would be to trade him to the Browns for Joe Thomas.
Off-topic, but with the Steelers acquiring Byron Leftwich it makes me wonder if there has ever been a time when two MAC QB's were on the same NFL team.  The Steelers should look into getting Pennington and they could have an all-MAC lineup at QB.

*ONU beat Ohio University 9-0 in 1908.  Now this is D-III related.

A couple of years ago, the Steeler's three QBs were Roethlisberger (MU), Batch (EMU), and Leftwich (Marshall).

As for MAC QB's, don't forget about Ball St.'s Nate Davis, who is a backup with the 49ers.  And the Steelers could repalce Holmes by trading for former Kent St. QB Julian Edelman, who had a pretty good year as a WR for the Patriots last season.

Here is another D3- MAC note from Ric's site:

The official game program from the 1947 season opener between Mount Union College and Kent State University.  The game was played on September 27, 1947 at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.  The Purple Raiders fell to the Golden Flashes 13-6, before 13,000 fans.  That crowd still stands as an attendance record for a Mount Union home football game.  The Raiders have an all-time record of 6-6-2 vs. the Flashes.

e land to expand on Union Ave. where the "old" Sigma Nu house stood and the church next to it was leveled. The block from Vincent to Overlook is now owned by Mount. The Mason house (white house on corner of Union and Vincent) will go to the University in the near future.

Hands off the SAE house, we're not selling,,unless of course you want to build a new house. Hopefully with a little more architectural thought than the SN house.

Isn't Charlie Frye still hanging on somewhere? The Steelers deserve him.

Hmmm, what will my answer be the next time Mount comes begging.

Seventies,

You can blame me I was responsible for the design and wanted to have continuity from the old house. It is 10,000 square feet, state of the art facility, with all ADA requirments. Let me know when you are in town, I will take you on a tour and have been the President of Beta Iota House Corp. of Sigma Nu since 2002. In the same type of role as Lee Miller of SAE.

Mount has no plans to double or triple its size due to its university status. Housing for all current students is still a major issue.

I was shocked to visit the SAE in 2002. The place, although 35 years older than when I lived there, is a palace compared to what it was in the late sixties. (and what the ATO was and still is) Lee Miller must have spent half his adult life fixing that place up. No side porch anymore, no place for my motorcycles.

Those were the good old days, aye Runyr?

Yes, but fitting if any of the accounts given by the young lady and her friends are accurate. The NFL was worried about PETA protests with Vick.  Imagine that NOW and other women's groups would be far more damaging to league's reputation.   Research shows that nearly 50% of NFL fans are women.  Can't imagine sales of pink #7 Steeler jerseys are going well.

The word from my family and friends in the 'burg is not only do the Rooney's want him out but so do the fans.  He went from being completely idolized to highly criticized.  All his own fault.  I stuck up for him until the stories of him messing with under aged girls came about.   Bye Bye Ben.  Sorry to see you go.

Agree that Ben has buried himself in personal stupidity, but as a Georgian (and former NW Ohioan), many locals question why an underage student was even on premises, which may have indirectly influenced a lack of prosecution.  Heck, the local and state gendarmes enforce tobacco bans in pub environments, so what's so tough about checking IDs?

Trolling works both ways, dependent on direction of the boat.   ;)  School stairwell "escapades" are the belt-notching contest of the semester for some of the fairer gender at my nephew's high school in rural TN.  Things have certainly changed in the past forty years.  ;D

So - does da 'Burgh draft "Dazzlin' Dan" from CMU to keep the MAC pipeline alive?

Since we're talking a little about the high school landscape today...

This will be my fourth year coaching high school ball in Arizona and times are tough out west.  The state of AZ is in horrible shape regarding budget and schools are getting hit hard.  Many good HC's have gotten the ax this offseason and there are a great number of administrations that have chosen to hire off-campus coaches in an attempt to cut money; paying some guy a stipend to coach means they can in many cases eliminate the teaching/counseling/administrative position the old HC held.  It's cut-throat right now.

We will begin our first varsity season in 2010 and going in to spring ball we have 4 coaches on staff.  That's 4 coaches in place for freshmen, JV and varsity.  It's ridiculous.  The HC has interviewed and interviewed but the school board and admin won't make any decisions.  We had 8 coaches last year for two levels.  Of those 8, 4 were garbage and 1 has had to move to TX due to the economy.  As much as I want to be excited about my first year calling a varsity offense, it's tough to look past the obvious hurdles we face as a staff.

Sports just don't have the same focus out here that they do back in Ohio or elsewhere in the US.  People call AZ a "baseball state" but even most baseball programs work less than I'd expect.  Kids think that they can just show up in July and be a state contender in football.  We can't make weights mandatory due to rules and regulations but we seldom have more than 15 in the weight room.  Kids just don't care.  Parents certainly don't care.  The school boards and admin seem to have things backwards.  I just don't get it.  I don't think it's like this back home but I fear it's getting worse all over the country.
