Raider 68....I understand the coaches are very impressed with O-K .  One former coach told me he expects O-K to be good at home with a real shot to beat the Raiders.  What with a new QB and all, one can never say. It certainly will be a tough road test for a young team.  Anybody know the best travel plan to get to that cheese eater paradise.

Took me a while to figure out what you were talking about. There's no hyphen in Oshkosh.

Seriously purple? As a WIAC follower, I find that hard to believe - New QB, young team or not, Raiders should have no trouble.

Best travel plans? Just stick you nose out the car window and follow the smell...of the cheddar, that is!!  :D  :D  :D

Bobo:  What do you expect a coach to say (current or former doesn't matter)?  I'd be shocked to hear any of them to say anything other than they expect a battle from O-K.  They would have said the same thing about SJF, or Averett, or Allegheny or Little Sisters of the Poor.     It might be boring and cliche, but it's standard operating procedure for anyone that's ever been on the sidelines.    Lord knows I annoy the crap out of Ric with my "coach-speak" crap leading into and after every game.

The coach might feel otherwise internally (which I'm sure is true about 70% of Mount's schedule on average), but it is very rarely vocalized to anyone outside the coaches office.  The last time I remember hearing a coach say "we'll be fine" to some casual friends was a couple days before Beaver ran all over MUC in the freezing rain in Salem VA.  >:(

Pat:  Yes, I added the hyphen in Oshkosh on purpose just to annoy you.

Call me cocky.  Call me arrogant.

If UWRF is a close game, I'd be shocked and disappointed.

At home against a team that hasn't been .500 in a decade (3-7 every season for the last 6 seasons) and returning a combo of Simmons and Donley on O with a very talented defensive backfield returning, I think ONU should handle UWRF.

Could UWRF keep it close or win?  Of course, it's football.  But I'd be surprised and disappointed if that were to happen.

Way too early prediction: ONU 38, UWRF 17

Hey guys, Havent been on much because of spring football. A couple of pages back you were talking about Panteges from Trinity Catholic. I actually met with him to discuss Mount Union and how the program works. He is a very fine young man, who played at a very competitive high school. Theyve been in the state championship a couple of times in the past 5 years. Im really looking forward to see what he does for the Raiders. Im doing my best to keep funneling the kids in from Florida. Im working on a halfback right now.

RC,

From my perspective, the Dessingue kid is the better quarterback, though both have pretty janky throwing motions.

Rue seems average to below average. Lot's of joystick option pitches, screen tosses, with the occasional (and capable) long ball, and that's kinda it. I dunno. I always think it's a bad sign when 5 yard outs drop below the waist as they arrive.  What impressed you?

As for Dessingue, he's physically impressive-- both in the pocket and on the move-- and his ball doesn't suck, but I mean no-one ever told him "Hey Brandon-- looks like you're tossing watermelons when you throw"? Might have something to do with why his level 1 balls fall like a shot bird after 15 yards.

Anyway, thought I'd offer an unsolicited opinion.

What I like about Rue on the youtube clip:

It starts out slow, I'll give you that.  The offense dictates some of what he does though.  The bubble screens are all well delivered and similar to some of the stuff ONU already runs.  He appears to be a good athlete (has a pretty strong leg too from the looks of those PAT's) with good football instincts.  When given a chance to throw a deep ball, he seems to have plenty of arm strength.  I just think he has a lot of skills that fit the system that ONU is currently running.

I'm not going to knock any kid because the coach called a lot of option out of spread.  I see lots of potential there.  I saw plenty of outs hit the targets and if you can deliver a deep ball with accuracy and speed, then it's not a matter of a weak arm causing an errant 5 yard out.  This could be why he's headed to the OAC and not a higher level (could be their loss and ONU's gain?!?).

Dessingue seems likea more capable runner but from my analysis he underthrew a majority of the 15+ yard passes downfield a step or two behind the receiver with the exception of the first pass on the film.  He seems to have decent arm strength but not the same as Rue.  But Dessingue is a tougher runner and still a decent passing threat.  Either way I like what I see.

Keep in mind ONU had a pretty good running QB recruited a couple years ago: Kyle Simmons.
