If you haven't seen it yet, Heidelberg will be representing the OAC in the D3 baseball finals in Wisconsin this weekend.

Good luck, Princes.

Seventies,

If you do not have a Heidekberg hat yet, you better get one for the Baseball team. Keep it right next to the UMU hat though! ;)

The MUC/UMU brouhaha seems to have run its course.  Time to pour on some gas! :o ;D

I'll be especially interested in The AProf's response! :D

[Full disclosure - I spent most of my career teaching at a university.  I was intensely interested in my students - especially the girls (I kid, I kid! ;D)]

Ypsi-At least I recently got my final 2 cents in when Mount sent me a marketing survey. Believe me, I'm honked enough they pretty much assumed my daughter was coming and I applauded her decision to go to Heidelberg.
The Berg was amazing with the personal touches. It guess that is still their "marketing plan".
I have a small stunt planned for the first home game at Mount this year. I just haven't decided who to donate the revenue from it to. Still a little fire left in this old guy.

68-I've got my Berg baggie red shorts, but if Coach Mike wants to see me in Orange, I wear any Extra-Large.

And it' s Thea(tre) Prof

And just what country would Wilmington play in?

would have to be Ethiopia for them to have a legitimate shot at winning the game.

The real question Rock is whether or not they could retrofit your court-mandated ignition interlock device onto one of those luxury vehicles.

I wonder what color it is?  Hard to find a paint scheme that looks good with the yellow & red license plates that Rock will be sporting.

party plates!!

Not a D3 article, but LK gets a little ink.  The article's main picture is pretty cool to see on ESPN as well.

HScoach,

Thanks, the article captures the sad state of consolidation due to lack of students in Ohio and the midwest. Mount and other OAC schools are fortunate to be able to attract and recruit those players from other states.

Fully installing and creating our high school offense is proving to be quite a task.  I've been staring at my stack of playbooks and offensive philosophies and getting lost.  Perhaps it's because last season we had a Bible for a playbook and I feel I need to have a larger selection but I keep coming back to the fact that we had too much in last year and were not good enough at any one thing.  Thanks to Coach Place, my high school HC, we will be running a base package out of splitback veer.  The HC wants a little I-Formation as well which shouldn't be too tough as we can run a lot of the same stuff out of splitback or I.  But we were also pretty successful when we went to a "wildcat" package at the end of the season due to personnel losses (grades/injuries); so there will be a fly sweep package as well.  And I think we still need to incorporate some spread gun for passing situations (primarily what we ran last year).

Maybe I'm crazy for thinking we should have so much going on.  I guess I don't have to have it all in for the kids but rather in the playbook for when the time's right...

Our passing series last year was designated by numbers and playcalls (ie. 193/293 West Virginia).  The numbers denoted primary receiver and the name was always a college that related to the route package.  West Virginia stood for Wheel for example.  I tried to give D-III a little love but I ultimately abandoned it because I thought so many of the kids wouldn't be able to remember the names and then take it to the route correlation.  196 Pittsburgh (for pivot route) is a lot easier to remember than 196 Pomona-Pitzer.

RC:  If you want a playbook on a high school veer with and some guidelines for installing it.  I have my summer playbook and practice schedule from my last year coaching HS.    We ran mostly from split backs but also a healthy amount of "I".  We'd do a little offset-I, full-house, inverted wishbone and 1-back just to keep people guessing.

Our base line set us un-balanced, but we would switch back and forth from balanced to un-balanced sometimes depending on the opponent and the mental capacity of our tackles.  The good years we would mirror the entire offense and switch back and forth from un-balanced right and left while mixing in some balanced looks too.  That caused some serious issues with the defense.

The switch from line sets wasn't hard as all it changed was the alignment of the tackles and TE.  The holes, footwork, alignment, etc was exactly the same for the skill people, the only difference was whether it was the TE gap blocking on the 3-hole veer versus the tackle.   Was much harder for the defense to prepare for than it was for the offense to learn.

In 1995 (I think, maybe it was 94 or 96, too lazy to look it up), we hung with #1 ranked Akron Springfield at their place by completely confusing the crap out of their defense by switching from LT to RT to balanced.  They called all 3 of their timeouts in the first drive of the game trying to get lined up right.  The timeouts didn't work.  Nor did most of their halftime adjustments.  That was a fun game even though we lost.  They had a 230 lbs stud TB that went D1 as a wrestler to OSU who ran over us for 300+ yards, but they couldn't stop us either even though they were much, MUCH better than us physically.  If I remember right, there was close to 1,000 yards of offense in that game.

BH2H-Rotator cuff is amazing, but operation sucked. I'm such a lazy old butt I tend to not want to wake up from the anesthesia. Spent a day in ICU because I wanted to stay in la-la land. Arm feels better than anytime in 5 months. Got most of the one handed chores around here done(Weeding, scrapping the crud off the bottom of the lawn tractor mowing deck) . S/B getting cleared to drive again tomorrow.

Looking forward to subbing again next year. I really do miss the kids

I know from my efforts locally, that small resident schools are a tough sell in this economy, when Akron and Kent allow kids to stay at home and keep whatever jobs they had through high school. If the Dow Jones doesn't start heading the other way I may be washing dishes in Tiffin. Those of us who actually saved for their kids education have pretty much the money we invested
