The Mount Union Alumni Office is sponsoring a bus to the first game in Wisconsin.  For more info go the following link on the Mount website.

OK Despite the fact they issued me a degree, Mount is an institution of higher learning and I'm pretty sure Osh Kosh is not two words

It all depends on whether your 'Oshlosh, b'gosh' jeans split in half! :D

It sounds like we all want the season to begin now! :D

Please, can't we have summer first! ;D

I'm always amused by the football (and especially basketball ;)) posters who can't wait for the season.  I'm eager too, but let's not waste the best part of the year!

Thankfully, our weather is somewhat predictable and enjoyable this summer vs. other areas and we are not dealing with a never ending oil clean up. I feel for those folks along the Gulf! A summer cook-out is great to enjoy!

We used to be able to amuse ourselves with Indians after basketball was over but they've been done since Spring Training

I was a little bit older when I got married and had children so I was able to start a "college fund" for them just about from birth.  The bottom line is about $250-300 per month per child in a growth mutual fund will get you to about $120K  each by the time they graduate.  I managed them myself; buying a little more when the market was down, skimming some off when it was high.  The surprises were the grants and such the kids got that defrayed costs and the reality of them having to pursue post graduate education.  I was going to stop putting in as they reached 18 but then decided to keep doing it for their retirement.  I hope they will be able to do the same for their kids because they wont have huge student loan obligations.

Fantastic and congrats!  That is the way to do it, IMO, if possible.  I wish my wife and I would have been able to go the route you did, however, circumstances early on after our marriage and the start of my career caused me to move us twice and that kind of put is "behind the eight ball" and having to play "catch up" thereafter in the future.  However, although it was somewhat harder that way, we were able to save and pay for both of their college educations at a DIII school (almost done paying ::))  We feel very thankful and blessed we were able to do that for our daughters and to help give them a good start to their own post-cllegiate lives/careers.  My hope and prayer is that others are able to do similar for their kids as well as you have (including my own daughters/son-in-laws ;)), although I realize that is not always possible for some families.  As such, they have to look for alternative ways i.e. all options for their kids getting a college degree, if that is what they want to do (IMO, it is necessary for everyone, if possible, in this "day and age".  Anyway, thanks for sharing your story.

Purple, Former 3db,

Putting away so much each month is the best way to go. We did not have that ability early on, but thanks to later career high level executive positions and incentive compensation, we were able to pay for Mount Union, Bowling Green and Pepperdine. Pepperdine is a great school, but at Stanford prices. The cost of living in LA is significant as well! :o

Our goal was to pay for our children's educations without them having any loans, which we did. We have felt very pleased and fortunate that we able to do that.

Mr. Ypsi

I was initially worried that I had OVER-saved for son #1 (those tax-protected accounts can ONLY be used for college expenses).  He started at EMU (pretty cheap, AND scholarships), but transferred to U of M his junior year.  Between that and his going on to grad school, I haven't even drawn on the account for the last three semesters, letting the account recover from the 'Great Recession'.

Son #2 wants to begin at the community college (he got into (non-academic) trouble at his high school, we withdrew him before he could be expelled, and he just graduated from an alternative high school).  Since they seem to have beaten him down to rather modest aspirations, we'll see if I over-saved for him.  (There is enough in the account, and fortunately no time limit, that he can eventually do anything he wishes.  And he IS a very smart kid, though his choices are often pretty dumb.)

[Oh all right. ;)  He was twice busted for having marijuana on campus.  OF COURSE he had grass on campus - that is where he bought it, you head-in-the-sand morons!! :o >:(]

What are you guys complaining about? You could be Oriole fans. At least your team has been fairly good within the lifetime of this year's high school graduates.  :(

The Nationals have nothing on my Pirates...........18 years of losing and nothing that makes me think that it will end anytime soon.  The Nationals just knocked the Bucs around in DC......
