Raider 68

Quote from: seventiesraider on July 27, 2010, 07:48:12 PM
All my favorite moments (save the Garcon toe drag TD in his first Stagg) have been running plays: Larry Kinnard swinging open the barn door for Chuck Moore to run the length of the field, Kmic's 90+ yarder out of nothing and Pugh slugging it out in his last Stagg. It's why I always stand in the end zone, for the thrill of watching those plays develop. Here's hoping that some of these running backs have developed since December.

Upon further review, my favorite play was Mr Unlikely Hero, Rodney Chenos putting away the Johnnies

Although I thought Nate Kmic was great at Mount, I really enjoyed Chuck Moore and the always threat of Pierre Garcon.

This fall the growth of a very good QB, the resurgence of a top notch running game and the growth of the OL and DL lines can serve the Raiders well. They probably have the one of the best receivers groups in a long time, now its time for the pieces to fall into place. A large contingent of returning lettermen is limited, but as in 2008 they had some top starters return (only 6 starters in '08) that lead the team to a championship! :)

In my eyes this one player puts Otterbein right in the mix of the National Championship talks.... This guy will be a All_American hands down and put fear in the hearts of the league. After watching what he did to Ray Smalls I can bet he will dominate this league. Congrats to Coach Loft for closing the deal with Jones. Huge boost for the program!

That's a prospectus, not the media guide. Prospectus is a May type of publication for preseason magazines and the like.

LOL I would agree! If he does inroll into classes and steps on the field you gotta admit Otterbein will be pretty interesting to watch this season!

I am wondering with the eligibility rules and all how is it possible that a kid that played two years at Minnesota in 2005 and 2006 is still eligible to play at Otterbein 2010?  I thought there was a five year window to play all four seasons now or something to that effect.  Just wondering.

(No Rocky jokes.  I already thought of them.)

Nope. No clock in Division III. If he wasn't enrolled full-time, he still has semesters available.

Unless Otterbein greatly improves the O and D lines, it won't matter what who is playing at the skill positions against Mount.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Does this mean we should try to lure Mo Clarett a few miles down the road now that he's back in school at OSU?  ;D

Agreed.  Also two things about transfers like that.  ONE--- there's a reason he's available.  Thomas More had a RB transfer from West Virginia in 1997 and he was available because they were wrong about him being a good football player.  Mount St Joe/MacMurray QB Rashawn Lewis was a great player but changed teams so much because he wore out his welcome and was genuinely regarded as a team cancer.
TWO--- who knows how long it will take him to get back into football shape.  The guy hasn't played in how long??  Everyone in here (who isn't biased by the news he is at Otterbein) knows it takes time to get back into football shape following the offseason, let alone 5 years??

Ohio 614 (Mr or Mrs Jones) -- congrats on your son choosing to go back to college and be challenged at a fine liberal arts institution such as Otterbein... but National Title talk because of inking a kid who has had a nice long break from football??

I think I speak for everyone in here, welcome to the page --- and you'll have a more healthy respect for D3 Football after this season.  Its NOT a one-man show.  We've had bigger names transfer in and play---- I can guarantee you the other 9 coaches aren't going to throw in the towel and ask out of the OAC... and as hscoach said, OTT will still get buried by MUC because of their O and D lines.

Actually I haven't got the slightest idea who we are talking about

"Dominic Jones isn't just a hitter. Jones offered the signature stop of Minnesota's season in 2006, decleating Ohio State's Ray Small on a pass into the flat. That was a big moment for Jones, a 5-8, 190-pound junior from Columbus. It showed his hometown school it might have erred passing on him, and it sent a message that, while not the biggest cornerback, Jones was definitely physical enough to play in the Big Ten. That's just the sort of aggression Brewster and Withers were looking for in trying to build a defense with attitude. Jones will be one of the Gophers' two cornerbacks this fall. Will teams attack him because of his size? Maybe. But ask Ray Small about the risks that come with venturing into Jones' territory. " ESPN 2006 CF Preview, he wouldn't play the following season.

....me neither, and I live in Columbus.

BashDad, thanks for the information.  Now that I know he's a DB, unless he is good enough to play a "1-deep", he can't cover all of the receivers.

Plus, his 40 time is bound to increase wearing an ankle bracelet. ::)

Ouch.  Not all press is good press.

The quote at the top is a little confusing though as it lists Jones as a junior for the 2006 season but according to the Gophers' official site, he played in 2005 and 2006 as a FR and SO.  Also he played SS according the site, starting 7 games there as a FR and playing there his entire SO season.

Also interesting on that link is the video that states Jones wanted to be granted the right to travel to an Ohio pro day in 2009 to get an NFL look.  I guess a year later he decided, "I'm going to go dominate at Otterbein".
