I would like to hear more about this ferry across Lake Michigan to get to Oshkosh...Is this really an option...how much travel does it save and do you know the cost?
thanks

you're better to drive from Ohio...it's not worth the money.

Yeah, it is not a savings of either money or time.  Whether it is worth it depends on how much you like being out on the big lake, and how much you hate Chicago traffic!  If it is cool or wet, I'd recommend against it (unless they've re-modeled in the last few years, indoors is kinda like a bus station :(), but on a hot day the ride outdoors is well worth it IMO.

$199 to miss Chicago, sounds like a deal to me.

I just put that out there for the tourists in the group. If your not a driving fan it takes a few hours off the drivetime, gets you a cheaper hotel in Michigan and you arrive in time for the game. It is a neat experience. There is another "jet" ferry into Milwaukee that's faster and takes more time off.

Compared to riding a charter bus, everything is an option. I hates deem buses.

Don't get me wrong - going TO Chicago is cool.

Going THRU Chicago is not cool. :P

The worst part of the best road trip ever was driving around Chicago.  The ferry sounds like a nice alternative.

Just say the words bus or Dan Ryan Expressway and a little scoot across the lake sounds wonderful

Newer faster Jet Ferry

I've had no reason to take that ferry.

The problem for an Ohioan is that it travels southwest - hardly the path someone traveling NORTHwest wants to go.  From Milwaukee, Oshkosh is still a trek; from Manitowoc, it is a hop, skip, and a jump.

I have no ties to the S.S. Badger (and wouldn't even recommend it unless it is a dry, warm day), but from Ohio, it is the ONLY reasonable alternative to taking the highways in (or around) Chicago.

I'm guessing the Lake Express is full of Illinois/Wisconsin passengers going east to northern Michigan (or returning), but nearly devoid of Michiganders heading west.

BoBo

Milwaukee to Oshkosh is an EASY drive  of 73 miles through mainly farmland. Manitowoc to Oshkosh is a drive of 44 miles and you have to go through the Fox Cities. It's pretty much a push.

That's pretty funny...as a SE Wisconsinite, albeit displaced, when I traveled to the UP, I would never go through lower Michigan to get there; I would always drive straight north through Wisconsin. In the 2 1/2 hours it takes to cross Lake Michigan on that jet ferry, I would nearly be in the UP. Fortunately, I have no idea how an Illinois resident thinks!  ;)  BTW, Michiganders never travel west?

You make the call, is this sailing southwest? Southwest would be to Waukegan...it's almost perfectly west. You're compass needs a little calibration Mr. Y!!  ;)

Though not football related, the Mount family lost a friend and colleague yesterday.

Sandy and her husband Ken were family friends having known them for years. My deepest sympathies go out to Ken, their children and the entire Pittenger family.

75 bucks

So when does everybody report?

drt

The Washington and Jefferson web site lists the 9/1 scrimmage as being at their place, and the Mount site seems ambiguous.  Does anyone know where the scrimmage is?

And who is everyone scrimmaging?

And who is everyone scrimmaging?

The Raiders have for the past few years scrimmaged W & J at home, maybe this year it is at their site. Not sure if the schools in the OAC publish who their scrimmage is with and where? HScoach may know that, but the subject of scrimmages who has not been much of a topic on this board.

The Raider website has just been changed and they may not have all the information up as yet! :)
