Nick Driskill is from Wabash, IN.  Wabash College is a two hour drive away, in Crawfordsville, IN.  There are numerous schools in Indiana, besides Wabash College, that "let Nick get away".  Just as there are numerous players from Stark County that Mount lets get away - it is a good thing that Mount does get its share though.

The first time I saw Nick play, in 2009, I was very happy that he became a Raider.  The MUC roster (I resist typing UMU) lists him as 5'10", 190#.  He plays bigger.  Plus, he is quick, fast and smart.

Mark and Ric, on the pre-game show next Saturday, it will be interesting to hear Nick tell us how he came to beautiful uptown Alliance.

That Marty Assman lead Capital in passing, rushing and receiving speaks VOLUMES about the depth of talent Cap demonstrated today

Capital is completely devoid of talent outside of Marty Assman.  It's a real shame to see where this program has fallen too since Collins left.  Only only decent players on the roster are the few left-overs from Collins last recruiting class.  I hate to say it, but Capital is well on they're way to returning to the 1980's.

I can't believe this is the same program that just a few years ago were a legit Top 5 team with the talent to play for a national title.  They had the depth to play Whitewater even for 3+ quarters on the road with a back-up QB and a TB that was their starting DE, and now they're fighting Muskingum and Marietta?  Sad.

I'll try to ask him, but I'm pretty sure he got here by car.  Indiana isn't far enough to fly and I don't think he's Amish so that rules out horse drawn buggy.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Agree, the only thing I saw on the Cap side was that Murray had to earn his yards against a reasonable run defense. Ott will show more offense against the Raiders, but giving up 24 pts per game on defense, which is what ONU beat them by at Westerville. :)

Why don't you leave the old jokes to the Old Farts.  70s and I could use the extra work!   :P

It is a shame about the downfall of the Cap program, but it goes to show how quickly a change in administration and/or philosophy can destroy a d3 program..

JCU looking more like JCU and ONU looking more like ONU this half.

This seems to be a pattern for ONU - a slow start followed by pulling away in the second half.  Hopefully, it doesn't hurt them down the road.

Attended my first Mount Union game in a couple years and likely the only one this year.  Good crowd and good, clean execution on offense, defense, and special teams.  Too bad the Cap game isn't what it used to be, but I'm still glad I made the trip.

Saw my second game and while it didn't exactly hold my attention, it was interesting to see Mount dominate without two important weapons: Cecil Shorts and Wes Ryder. For a little guy, Murray seems to run better inside than out. Zac Suhar is an interesting punter. He chose to exchange distance for height and coverage. If you check the replay, one time the Capital receiver got cold crocked from the BACK as he fielded the punt.

I'm only slightly saddened that Mount fans seems to have become fairly subdued, even on the open side. No chants of "Start the Buses" or trying to get the goats of the 35 Capital fans (parents) that made the trip. That was actually one of the saddest observation, the lack of support for the Crusaders. Five years they would have filled those two sections and been bitching because there weren't anymore seats.

It was pointed out that I failed to report that the Heidelberg Harley got sold out from under me, so on my way to Tiffin Friday, I bought a Green and Black (Mogadore) dresser in Upper Sandusky. Sorry, I've yet to see a tasteful Purple motorcycle. (I know, when did Seventies get tasteful?)

I'm listening to Mount vs Cap game and reading the PD online.  Did anyone see this?  The Browns ought to give this guy a job.

That's a great article, runyr, great spirit. I don't get the pd up Sandusky way, so thanks for this!
Anybody who imagines they're a big fan of a particular football team should compare themselves to this guy.
How many of us would do something like this for our favorite team?   ???
How many of us would do it for the Browns?  :-X

reality check

Check out the article about strength of schedule on the main page.  I don't recall something like this being posted before (probably wrong).  ONU sitting at #7 right now.  If they finish 9-1 this better be the year the NCAA gives them another at-large bid.

With the BW/Mount game yet to be played, I think B-W would be out of the picture without the win over the Raiders.  They're sitting at 6-1 but #111 on SOS (behind Heidelberg, John Carroll, Otterbein and Capital).

Pardon the following but I'm using this as a vent post...

I took part in my first ever All-Region meeting yesterday representing my program as my HC has been dealing with a family matter.  We finished the regular season at 3-5 but we are playing an independent region playoff between the 6 first year varsities in the state of Arizona.

The meeting went smoothly without any pissing or moaning and the players were already nominated so all we had to do was tally our votes.  I did my homework and voted for the kids that did damage to us.

The votes came in and we had one first team player.  We had three second team players.  I was then told to nominate three honorable mentions so I put my RB, WR and a CB on the list.  Both the WR and RB were nominated but not voted on as a first or second teamer.

I just assumed that there were better kids and it was what it was.  Then I came home and looked at the stats.  My RB led the conference in rushing and finished second in rushing TD's.  He went for 164 and 152 against two of our five regional opponents and had solid games in the other matchups.  The WR led the region in receiving and TD catches.  One of the kids that was voted second team WR in his place had 2 catches on the season.  2!!!

It didn't end there as the first team QB had 450 passing yards, 2 passing TDs and 4 INT's on the year.  (He wasn't much of a runner either 150 total yards and a TD on the ground).  To clarify we didn't nominate our QB and I'm not saying mine got screwed but I think someone else's obviously did.  Suddenly my QB with a 6-8 TD/INT ratio looks more like an All-Region kid and he wasn't even nominated.

I feel horrible for the kids in this region because the other coaches appear to have their heads up their butts.  I guess they just picked at random off the nominations.  I'm not crying about first versus second team.  I'm saying deserving kids didn't get it at all.  I think that's garbage.  Total garbage.

It's an interesting stat and one I referred to making my picks in the Fan Poll. Unfortunately as a strict number it sort of worthless become a team Muskingum get big numbers because the have to play ONU and Mount Union while those two suffer because they don't play themselves and them Ohio Wesleyan is #20 because everything looks up from where they are. Trine at 204 may not be too very wrong because right now there are no winning teams on their schedule, in fact their opponents last week were a combined, 18-44.
There is an extremely hard to implement equation to figure out sos without "top-bottom" prejudice

I think I've seen every dumb way to pick conference selections. not getting a vote on your kids seems to solve a lot of problems. I got in trouble years when I was told that I had to nominate a certain number of kids at first team, and second team even if I knew I didn't have anyone deserving. The otherside was seeing stacked teams have to put great players on the second team ballot. Dumbest idea was that the POY wasn't allowed to be All-anything
