d3db: The school was D3. That's what I mean.

Walsh and Malone are also moving from NAIA to NCAA DII.  I assume being NCAA DII will enhance their attractiveness to HS seniors.  Recruiting for DIII is going to get tougher everywhere.

Good possibility, but their program's are no great shakes and the better athletes look to other schools with a more football tradition and success. :)

If you think the OAC is having troubles, look at the NCAC tuition levels, and when you start to feel bad for them, look at the UAA tuition levels,

Well, hopefully Junior doesn't have to play JV for Hiram or Kenyon or Wesleyan for three years before he can crack into the Varsity lineup. If so, I'd recommend a chat with his guidance counselor.

If Junior needs to play JV at Hiram for 3 years to crack the Varsity, then maybe its time Junior had a swift kick in the head followed by the "maybe football is not in your future" talk. JV at Hiram is the closest thing to Pee-Wee football outside of a pick-up game at a daycare center.

Please keep in mind that I spent an OBSCENE amount of $$ to go to Hiram and watched the Varsity stink up the joint for 4 years.....to think the kids on JV were not as good as the kids on Varsity is scary!

Football is not in the future of nearly all D3 players, and pretty much no Hiram players specifically, even if they play 4 years of varsity.  Not all people play sports just to make it to the pros.

I think he meant more immediate future, not post-graduation future.

Desertraider was not even good enough to play for Hiram since he "watched" the Varsity stink it up for four years!

DesertRaider-At least Hiram finally has a coaching staff younger than me. (Although they may be coaching some Division 5 high school team by this time next year)

I was shocked at my daughters graduation last year that virtually the whole graduating class was going to Akron, Kent, Walsh or Stark State. (Maybe that's why we canned the guidance counselor.)

I'll give Lake Erie credit, they came out of the gate with a very polished recruiting program. It's a good choice for the kids in northern Portage, Geauga, and Lake Counties, an area which was without a good local choice of schools. (Yeah, I over looked Hiram. Good as in good football schools)

Notre Dame College has a growth mission

Several years ago 2003 I think they had 300 plus full time students they went coed (adding boys) and also adding sports along the way.  They now have 1600 full timers adn with part timers also growing have increased admissions significantly.  Their idea which worked BTW was to offer more co-curricular and extra curricular options for students and attract them to the school.  They dioscount the overall tuition by offering scholarships but they use their assets to the fullest by putting as many kids in the programs that they can. They expect that certain number of football players will leave the sport but stay in school adding to the numbers.  It makes sense and has worked for them./  They are in the same place football wise that LEC weas two years ago and are on the same track to D2 status as LEC was.

it gives NEO kids more options and gives D3 schools more competition for kids.  I think it has hurt BW and JC recruiting for several years now.

In that case, I'd say that football is as much in the future for a Hiram JV player as it is for a Mount Union JV player, then.

My apologies for bringing up basketball on a football board, but Blue Streaks, please beat the crap out of the Zips tomorrow night!

All my sibs matriculated at Hilltop High and it irritates me Akron -- even with 5 straight 20-win seasons -- is so afraid of Moran and his team that they had to tell their fans to remember that it is only a preseason game!

Got it now, Pat. I understand.

Hope you are doing well.  Can you believe that there are only two weeks left in the DIII regular season?  You will soon be packing your bags for the Stagg Bowl.

Well, I checked Massey's prediction and he gives B-W at 6% chance to win. Those are probably better odds than I would have given the dead person who won re-election in California.

B-W's total defense numbers are impressive as always, but they rank 7th in the conference in total offense

They probably remember the year that a very average Mount Union team had them by 13 at the half.

... was just thinking about this the other day.  Crazy.. we wait, wait and wait --- then its gone already, it seems.

On a personal note... does anyone in this room know someone who is the transportation/shipping/logistics manager at their company?  I'm looking for some lukewarm leads that would enable me to expense the trip to Mount Union this year.  That and my CA-based company is wanting to expand operations a bit in Ohio.... now that the Republicans have taken back over.
