108:  I agree with all of that.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Congrats to all the teams who made the bracket, especially MUC and ONU. It will be interesting if Mount has to go on the road in the Semi's. When was the last time Mount traveled in the playoffs?

Here's to an All-OAC Stagg Bowl!!

wesleydad

hscoach, i agree with your assessment about wesley being a collosal failure if they dont make the semis as the number 1 overall seed, although i am not sure how that happened.  i just dont recall anyone from wesley complaining about not getting national respect.  i believe the program knows where it is compared to the big 2 and realizes that they have to step up to get respected.  if wesley and uwww get to meet again, i will look forward to the game and you are correct, there will be no excuse about the field conditions.

108, uwww will have to travel to umhb or wesley should either one win the south bracket.  since wesley is #1 seed, still cant believe that, seeds that are equal are still seeded the same way so umhb at 2 is rated higher than uwww at 2.

the east is weak.  personally i would like to see salisbury beat delval because that would make wesley look better and then mount can take on the triple option, which i am sure they will have no trouble stopping.  does anyone in the oac run the triple option?  also found it interesting that courtland has an easier second round game than mount will have.

Just made this point on our board!
"Thinking a little farther into these brackets, isn't it true that the committee has basically set us up as the #8 team for all intent and purposes?  Meaning that being #2 in the #4 bracket means, for example, IF we continue to win out, we would travel to play, not only the #1 seed but also any other #2 seed?  We only get home field over #3 seeds or lower?"
The committee set it up so that 7 other teams were seeded higher than the undefeated defending national champs...........WTF?????

Mount travels to St. Thomas if both hold serve?

My money says Bethal comes to Alliance

And at the risk of repeating the rantings of people who weren't stuck driving a daughter back to Tiffin, WESLEY as the #1??? UWW #2 in their region?  Can I have some of the what the selection committee was so clearly smoking??

Mount playing a 5-5 team? Time for my annual rant, doesn't this prove ONCE AGAIN that the field of 32 is at least 4 too large. Play your hearts out all year so you can play one the top 125 teams in the nation, again.

I see your point, but you miss mine.

It seems to me that the biggest little game in America every year is the Stagg Bowl, not a two-team rivalry in New England, especially one whose conference chooses to exclude itself from football playoffs.

Using your measures (attendance & number of games played), it looks like the Stagg Bowl can never bill itself as the biggest little game in America.   :'(

I wouldn't call the Stagg Bowl such a little game. :)

Most of the points have already been made, but I think it needs to be said again.  The seedings/bracket leaves a lot to be desired...one of the things desired being an explanation!  But, as has also been said, at least things here in DIII Land are allowed to be settled between the lines.

Perhaps the committee was really working in secret to try and guarantee a Mount Union-Whitewater rematch?  Give Mount Union an easier bracket and royally tick off the defending champs by giving them a low-2-seed chip on their shoulder?

But, it shows how little I've been paying attention to the Stagg Bowl this year...I just noticed that it's slated for a 3:30 start!  Does ESPN know this already?  Or is the NCAA hedging their bets for another snowstorm?

Or squeezing it between the Noon game and the 7:00PM game.

Heck I could leave home at 6:00AM and be in the parking lot at Noon.

Raider 68

The Raiders played 6 of 10 regular season games away, the can play another and win. The larger question is will they have to? Not so sure St. Thomas will beat everyone in the West! :)

UWW is the 5th seed. NCC has a win against a playoff team. Not sure about UWW. Looking forward to seeing Witt come to ONU. I don't think we could have asked for a better draw. Hoping for some interesting spreads from HScoach. Go Polar Bears!

Okay, I give up, but I walk away thinking that the words rivalry and game shouldn't be interchangeable.

The Amherst/Williams PR people are free to call it anything they want (and d3football.com is gracious to allow them their illusions), but I'd vote for the Monon Bell - only 8 games fewer, and higher attendance.  (And MUCH more hatred leading up to it, though surprising grace [mostly] afterwards. ;))

Thanks for your comment, Ypsi.
And I bet most years Depauw and Wabash would kick some major a**, if they played either Williams or Amherst.  Since those two don't play non-conference games, we'll never know.

I've only been to one Amherst/Williams game and I wasn't that impressed.  Granted, it was in the early 70's.  There weren't more than a few thousand fans in attendance and most of us were standing (not a lot of seating at Pratt Field).  The football wasn't as good as most OAC games.  Kudos to their PR guys because they certainly have been able to hype it up.
