Try to stick with the oranges here. We're not talking apples.
I see your point, but you miss mine.

It seems to me that the biggest little game in America every year is the Stagg Bowl, not a two-team rivalry in New England, especially one whose conference chooses to exclude itself from football playoffs.

Using your measures (attendance & number of games played), it looks like the Stagg Bowl can never bill itself as the biggest little game in America.   :'(

I wouldn't call the Stagg Bowl such a little game. :)

That's good to hear, Pat!   :D
Okay, I give up, but I walk away thinking that the words rivalry and game shouldn't be interchangeable.

The Amherst/Williams PR people are free to call it anything they want (and d3football.com is gracious to allow them their illusions), but I'd vote for the Monon Bell - only 8 games fewer, and higher attendance.  (And MUCH more hatred leading up to it, though surprising grace [mostly] afterwards. ;))

But it has its own name already. :)

Thanks MW! And that sucks!

It's a joke..........evidently at the end of the day SOS was aLL that mattered.   ::) ::) ::)

As I said on the CCIW board:

North Central's non-conference Schedule:

Cornell (0-10)
Olivet (0-10)
UW-Eau Claire (4-6)

If that isn't a strong enough "Strength of Schedule" to leapfrog the defending National Champions, I don't know what would be.    ;)

Just some thoughts:  Mt. has a 99 game road winning streak, regular season.   St. thomas won't survive their region,  and I thought Pat did a fine job on the tube.  What the heck is a super region?   D2 guy seemed to like super regions.   Perhaps d3 should have super duper regions or something like that.   Good luck to da bears and go raiders!

Just trying to induce some non- Mt. union talk ( since their first game will likely be just like the muskingum game) what do you think of the ONU- Wittenberg matchup ? how about that a Wittenberg team which was 10-0 goes on the road to a one loss ONU ?
When it comes down to two people of equal talent, it comes down to heart, I don't lose often when it comes to heart.

StLarry cordially invites the OAC over to the LL boards for some pre-game UMU-SLU banter.  Come one come all.

Since Mount Union is in the east region, shouldn't they travel to Canton, NY?   :D

How about as a compromise, we play in Canton, OH, home of the Pro Football HOF.   ;)

I think this can be a "statement game" for the PB's.  The committee determined ONU was stronger than WITT, and rewarded them with a home game.  It's up to them to now make that statement saying HELL YAH.....we are that good!

I think ONU has a run in them if their defense can play at the higher end of their capabilities.

RC.......thoughts?

Congrats to everyone who earned a playoff berth... Been reading for about six years but have yet to post... ONU alumn and former coach who's just happy to see the p bears in the playoffs

Mount should be cake walking to Salem and Northern got a brutal bracket

I don't think Witt will cause much trouble and I think everyone forgets that ONU handled an NCC team with three or four preseason all americans last year

As for the bears defense, not as much pass rush and attack as in previous years but more of a bend and not break attitude and an extremely deep, talented, experienced, opportunistic secondary

A brutal bracket would include Mount. UWW is a great team but I like the fact that UMU is in the East. ONU should put it on the Red Swarm like we did in '99, 58-24. As you stated, they handled NCC last year even though that means little to nothing. Then it would be the big game against the Warhawks.

OhNo:  Welcome aboard.

In regards to ONU/Witt, it's one of the games I'm really looking forward to.  If I wasn't busy with Mount and the HS playoff games on Saturday, I'd be traveling to Ada to watch that game.  Yes, Witt is undefeated but they've struggled with some very average NCAC teams.  If ONU shows up and takes care of the ball, the Bears should be moving on to Round 2 by double digits.

What's crazy is DePauw being the #3 seed ahead of ONU.  How a team that gets drilled 47-0 to the NCAC runner-up is seeded ahead of the team that gave up 20 less points to Mount is beyond me.  I would have loved to see ONU travel to Whitewater in Round 2.  That would have been a great measuring stick for both teams/conferences.  I'm sure many ONU faithful think their earlier Mount loss was simply a bad game and Whitewater is prone to believe the OAC is nothing beyond Mount.

North Central's draw of ONU in Round 2 will be a much tougher opponent than Whitewater will get with either DePauw or Trine.  For all the pissing & moaning going on in the WIAC page, the only difference is where the regional final will be played.  Whitewater's half of the North Region is easier that North Central's half.  And it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Whitewater hosting ONU in the regional final.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Blurb from Cecil Shorts post-game interview, there were only ten guys on the field for his punt return for a TD. Sorry Musky fans, just when you thought you couldn't feel any lower
