I gotta say that if Pat's predictions come true I should be near the lead in Pick em's after Week One. Salisbury over Del Val, Bethal a winner as well as Depauw. But if his prediction for Mount comes true I'll be sad about not taking the spot.

The best thing about Akron's new stadium is it being a GREAT place for a high school playoff game.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

At least Akron played on Wednesday night so the big crowd high school games could be there this weekend, but of course not Mogadore. We get to travel to Twinsburg for the second straight week.

Two D1 football programs within a half an hour of my house in Akron and Kent with a combined record of 4-17

Maybe Formerd3db is correct and Akron and Kent should consider FCS status!

Here is a question, What team would area fans rather see play?  :)

1. Akron
2. Kent
3. Mount Union
13 time Division III National Champions

Akron will get warned this year about having an average attendance under 15K.  Kent was warned last year, so this year they are doing the obvious thing, having the University buy unsold tickets under 15K and give them away. Actual warm bodies in the stands over 15K ?, Only the Akron game.

They offered youth football $1.00 tickets but it's easier to get kids to eat anchovies than watch a Kent football game

Maybe St L's would do better if we played at Wrigley Field with only one end zone.  :-\

Kent does offer $2 beers (maybe $1?) to those willing to sit through that trainwreck every Saturday.  There's something to be said for that.

The most interesting state of the weekend may be how much the high school playoff game out draws the
Zip-less game at Infocision....

Ripped my whole exhaust system off in that cow pasture across the street from the stadium for the Minnesota game a few years back. So much for my $1 ticket.

seventies:

That is how Eastern Michigan has done it as well to get by the requirement.  I know there has been talk about kicking them out of the MAC, but that has been going on for years.  Persons of dubious reputation ;D (and Central Michigan) spearheaded that back in the late 1980's, but Eastern came back, smashed them that year enroute to the MAC title and the win in the old California Bowl (now that bowl game in Las Vegas).  So they proved they could do it (just like Northwestern has done) Although they will obviously never be powerhouses (Eastern, Northwester, Akron or Kent), they can be competitive.  And while I personally hope that Eastern or Akron, Kent or schools like that never drop football (they shouldn't), there is no reason why they can't be competitive at the appropriate level.  I just think that is at the FCS level like Youngstown Sate.  Cincinnati went the rout of "big time" like Akron tried /has tried to do, but that is "a different animal" and a bigger market which affects that differently.  Just my thoughts.

BTW, since we're discussing programs, any early word on leading candidates for the DII Findlay and Tiffin University jobs? ???

The parking lot isn't much better.  Potholes galore, not the best lighting, dangerous place to leave your car overnight.

RE:  Attendance - Kent's promotional platform this year was 90KSU...a not so subtle reminder to the fans that they needed to hit 90,000 in attendance (or paid attendance anyway) or face relegation to FCS.

Toph, seventies, Raider68, et al:

What do you think would happen with regard to the MAC if some of its member schools like Akron, Kent, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo and even Western Michigan or Northern Illinois were regulated to FCS status?  The MAC has insisted on being a DI conference for a long time and only a few of the schools hit the attendance mark regularly (Central Michigan does, but...while they play some big time DI schools for non-conference, they really aren't "in that league").  Would the conference then have to be considered FCS?

Ouch, on the tailpipe, tires (and pocketbook) seventies and toph! ;D  Your hotdog at the game costs less than that experience! ;)

As a VERY proud Kent grad (cough.....cough), I can tell you that I have attended many......errr...some.....errr....a few......errrrr....ONE game since I graduated in 1984.  I got so annoyed in the mid to late 90's with the constant onslaught for donations, that I just really tuned out anything to do with the school.  My oldest son attended, but he lived at home for all four years.

What was the old saying......."Can't read......can't write........Kent State".   ;)

I can admit I had one WHALE of a time my second semester freshman year, and first semester sophomore year.  Such a great time that I was on academic probation for the following semester.   ::)

formerd3db

Whoa, skunks! Crazy experience! ;)  Also, I guess even the new uniform design in recent years can't even help Kent ::)
