Well I have seen Mt Union 6 times in person and on video countless others.

This year?  I'm jealous!

Oh boy.....here....we.....go.  (I actually love that Bud Light pitch).

I think all of you are missing a huge point.  It's not about the formation (option....please....it's not high school, run from spread, one back, power I), it's about the OFFENSIVE LINE PLAY!  Mount is NOT a power football team this year compared to more recent years.  As many people have notated, one of Mount's STRONG advantages in years past was their offensive line.  I don't give a rats patooey what offense they were running, they were knocking the CRAP out of the defensive line.  The times they didn't do that (UWW), they lost in the Stagg Bowl.  This year they are good (and I believe improving), and that is the difference.

UWW is that power offensive line team.  That is why I think they were the favorite to run the table.  I have recently revised that thinking, but I will save that opinion until we have worked our way through the play-offs a few more weeks.   ;)

Oh......one more thing.  There has been a big chance in UMU within the last few weeks.  And this week, it has even been more evident.  As negative (relatively speaking) as I have been earlier in the season, I now firmly believe they can make it to the Stagg, and beat anyone there.

Yah.....it's that good.   8-)

I had a feeling Nebraska and Oklahoma would be brought up when I wrote about the option.
I simply see it differently.  Those teams of the past used the fullback dive (power) to establish the outside pitch on the option.
I also believe it is all a mindset, especially with the O line.  Certainly you would agree that an offensive coordinator can call plays that limit the O line's ability to play a physical game.  Look at the Chicago Bears (if you have the stomach for it). Even a running game can limit an O line's aggressiveness.  I've seen plenty of teams that didn't have the power to run inside, and therefore they relied on speed to get outside.  I personally don't see that as a power team.  I personally don't see an Oregon type offense as a power offense.
It's old school I know, but as a UWW fan, I see our strength as the ability to apply power throughtout the game, which over time wears an opponent out (hopefully).  This is a much different mindset than an offense based on spreading the field and using QB reads to find gaps.

It's also good to have SaintsFAN back.  ;)

Saintsfan is just a bandwagon guy anyways.  All season long we're reading "rock stickler" and now that TMC is in the playoffs, he's all of a sudden affiliated with Thomas More again.  Fairweather fan at best.   :)

On the power vs finesse running game topic, I'm firmly on the side of Sidekick on this one, though it makes me feel soiled to admit it.  The primary determinant is your O-line.   Yes, you could have a big bruising type RB that pounds it all the time with a average O-line, but it won't be effective without a physical O-line in front of him.   I guess that would technically be classified as power running game because they're forcing it to be so, but it isn't a good one and therefore to me isn't worth worrying about.   Muskingum under Heacock had the scheme of a power team too, but that didn't make them one.  It just made them stupid for trying to exclusively run between the tackles with a crappy O-line.

All the goofy misdirection stuff in the modern spread offenses was invented to hide fact the O-line wasn't physical enough to move the line of scrimmage.  Not saying every spread team is soft, but that is why that offense took hold .  It was started by teams that couldn't physically compete and needed a gimmick to even the playing field.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

You don't like my Triple X name, RC??? I'm just glad they were able to win last week, with so many people saying they'd lose because W&L was on a roll.. As Hilvert said in the article, they have nothing to lose this weekend in Belton with MHB.

HScoach... its been a crazy year.  I've not been able to be around as much as I'd have liked.  Had a buddy killed in Afghanistan in October and some other stuff happened to people close to me.   Has made me realize what is important..

So hey, it's Wednesday and I'm wondering if Del Val has any fans.  Where are the green and gold?

I called three of their playoff games on the web with Gordon Mann back when I was living on the east coast but they're a completely different program than the one I saw from the press box in 2005.  I'm sort of surprised that we haven't seen any supporters in here.

Not much in the way of NCC folks either.  I mean we've been talking about the matchup but it's been with CCIW guys moreso than NCC fans.

Where is everybody?
