Results for Round 3 and spreads for Round 4 have been posted.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Just saw Coach Ross Watson on the sidelines in the NU-OU game

Congratulations to St Eds on their first State Championship, and respect
to eighth seeded Wayne for giving them a great game. Wayne's D couldn't step Eds in the second half, but, when Wayne got ahead a SECOND time by a couple quick scores, props to Eds for persisting with heart to a victorious end.

YES!

Ok all you Mount/OAC posters.....let's do our usual semi-final party  RIGHT this Friday night at the Wing Warehouse.

Myself, Jr. and possibly Skunk will be there.

Seeing as how Bethel takes their religion seriously, I doubt we will have any Royal fans there.

I posted here a few weeks ago.......things have really turned in Alliance.  I like our chances to make it to, and win the Stagg.   ;)

8 o'clock sounds good to me!!  ;D

DITTO THAT!! awesome game! St EDs had their backs against the wall there and score twice in 55 seconds to get the game back in control! Braxton Miller is the real thing too, wow! Tressel is grinning all the way back to C-bus tonight and i'm sure Teague from Y-town Ursuline raised a few eyebrows too! :o Great to have 3 NE OHio teams take state titles out of 6. Nearly 4 with Butchel only losing 13-12

gordonman....I saw both games and I think Del. Valley is the better team mainly because of a superior  quarterback.  The DV  qb threw the ball very well in heavy wind.  He ran the ball well and seemed much more poised in the pocket than the Alfred player.  I think DV had the better overall defense, although the Alfred LB's were great.  Alfred was lucky it wasn't 42-7 at halftime.  Mount was fortunate it was 14-3 at halftime against DV.

Here's a couple of good quotes about the game today.

Wasn't impressed with #8 - actually isn't the first time I have felt that way. Doesn't keep his eye on the ball. Watch the tape again.  Offense needs to step it up or you just might meet your match.

Sounds good.  Thanks, folks.

Hi Gordon,

I will echo HSCoach's opinions, and give Alfred a very slight edge.  Their front 7 is by far better than DVC's on defense.  I would say that DVC's offense has a slight edge over Alfred.  Alfred's punter was GREAT, and their special teams were very good.

Slight edge to Alfred, but I think a 3 point spread in that game would be spot on.

Looks like Bethel brings a typical MIAC team  to Alliance. Yesterday they passed 4 times, completing one. I'm glad we have been tough against the run, but a team that is almost exclusively run oriented is bigger and stronger at every position and may be hard to stop. On paper, they look one dimensional, but so did a St John's team that gave us fits in the Stagg.

In a side note: Larry thought it was funny that they might have to fly to St Paul because several players (including Cecil) have never been on an airplane.

Interesting Playoff stats for the final four:

Wesley
Offense 39 pts per game
Defense 10 pts per game

UWW
Offense 39 pts per game
Defense 20 pts per game

Mount Union
Offense 39 pts per game
Defense 3.3 pts per game

Bethel
Offense 18.3 pts per game
Defense 12.3 pts per game

Does Defense win championships, these stats are an indicator. Several other variables were in play for these games as well! :)
13 time Division III National Champions

In a year where the challege of Mount Union getting back to Salem seemed to be steeper than any time in at least the last several years, this playoff bracket has worked out to fall perfectly in their favor.  Probably frustrating for all the d3 fans out there who'd like to see someone other than the Purple Raiders in the championship.

Yesterday, with the top six team playing, UMU played the only unranked team.  Next week, they play the 14th ranked team and 6th seed from the West bracket; while on the other side of the bracket, the defending national champ is traveling to the #3.  Not to say that Bethel won't be a challenge, but if you were to have a choice of who you'd rather play out of the other final four, they're the easy choice.  Maybe it's divine intervention? 8-)

That's one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it is that if the final is UWW/UMU (as many in the stands at North Central were hoping for), UWW will be a lot more battle tested than UMU which could be helpful, where (at least so far) UMU has just cruised through the bracket playing average East Region teams.

Or,.... UWW will be beat up and wore out after the long slog to Salem.  ;)  Maybe we'll get to find out in a couple weeks.  I will concede that after a fairly easy roll through the playoffs in 2003, the Purple Raiders did not seem prepared for the challenge they faced in the Stagg.  We don't want to see that happen again.
