Well, unfortunately, the "ax just dropped" on DIII'er Josh McDaniels as the Denver Broncos owner fired him as head coach - breaking news just now on Comcast and other sports outlets.

FWIW, interim coach is also a DIII'er.  New Broncos coach Eric Studesville is a 1988 graduate of UW-Whitewater (he was a defensive back).

hazzben-Having the team in St Paul would have solved a lot scheduling problems for me this weekend and I think Larry was kind of looking forward to it. Leave us out of this. 8-)

I would love to be seeing this semi-final game in St. Paul...it's just it would have been way too much purple on the field.  :D  If UST(d) had won, I would definitely have been at the game and tried to get together with some of you UMU fans before hand. I'm a Bethel fan first and foremost, but I just love football, especially of the DIII variety.

apparently we've found the annual "Mount has never seen a ______ like this" for 2010...the Bethel kicking game.

Ha! Excellent point...you may never see one like it again, at least not this deep into the playoffs ;D Clearly the sheer uniqueness of our 'kicking' game has to play to our advantage right. I mean, if you had seen the beautiful spiral we had on our FG against Wheaton, you'd be very afraid! 8-)  ;)

An interesting quote in Beacon Journal today..Jon Gruden's son stated he will play at Dayton or Mount Union.  I dont know what HS he attends, what position he plays or if he is of the ability to play at either Dayton or Mount, just thought it was interesting to see the statement.
would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on the recruit....

reality check

OCF has announced their all-Ohio teams for Division III -

Offensive player of the year: Brent Donley
Co-Defensive player of the year: Lambert Budzinski
Co-Freshman of the year: Germany Woods
Coach of the Year: Dean Paul

Congrats to all the First and Second teamers.  Looks like they did a better job with the Division III names than they did with the Division I list (Dan Sanzenbacher and Cameron Haywood to name a few).

OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)

MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

Deuce Gruden is a Junior this year and plays QB for a small private school in Tampa.  ESPN did a special on them last spring because his dad was an unpaid-volunteer OL coach for them.

Maxpreps says "Deuce" plays both ways as QB and SS.  He had 5 rushing TD's and threw for 15 TD's and just under 1600 yards at Carrollwood Day School (8-2).  He added 62 tackles and an INT on the defensive side of the ball.

He's a little guy (listed 5'6" 180) but plays all over place and as a soph had 5 receiving TD's and 138 tackles?!?   As a frosh he had 94 tackles and 2 receiving TD's.

I don't think they participate in the FHSAA playoffs.  They are a member of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference which is a group of very small, church-related schools.  Competition is not very good.

All I know is that Mt. plays very very well on the road.  Big games we have lost in the playoffs have been at home.  ie rowan  MHB     Going to STU  would have brought out the best in Mt.  I believe.

I'll believe it, especially since mount only plays 1/3 of its games (deservingly so) on the road.....when was their last road playoff game? 90s was it?  ;D
