Sounds like Bethel fans is more correctly spelled "parents"   ;) :D

The fan bus was canceled because of the foot and a half of snow that started falling here at 8 p.m. last night.

Seventies -- why are you such a smug SOB this year?

Because he's old and his retirement insurance won't pay for Viagra anymore.

So the decision tonight was to go with the differential prediction--and almost everyone picked a different differential.  Tie breaker will be who actually wins. Picks are:

MtFan Jr.--13
MtFan--22  (M35-B13)
HSCoach--22  (M34-B12)
Hurf--25
Skunk--26
Skunk's Sidekick--28
Seventiesraider--30
Wesleydad--31 (You can pay up in Salem)
Raiderguy #2--32
Theaprof--33
Skunk's Sidekick Jr.--36
Raiderguy--45

Somehow everyone picked Mount to win.

There are 60 "credits" riding on the score.  I guess since i am carrying the credits I get to determine any tie breaker. Skunk's Sidekick did say winner takes all the credits!  I'll post the winner and you can PM me to make arrangements to pick up your credits.

It was great to see all of you tonight--sorry some of the Bethel fans didn't join us.

Thanks Mtfan for the wings and beverages--we all owe you!

Go Raiders!!

Looks like MtFan and HSCoach split the "credits".  20 pt. differential and they both picked 22--HSCoach got closest with the MU score of 34, but Mt.Fan bought all the wings last night--so, as the holder of the credits, I declare it a tie and split the "credits" between the two of them.  If anyone has a problem with that, I will just keep all of the "credits" to myself and use them to pay for my hotel room next week in Salem!

Congrats to Mark and Mark!!  See me in Salem to collect.  Wesleydad--sorry for your loss, but you still owe 5 credits to the pool.  I'll see you in Salem to collect--while I drink your beer!

Finally.  I finally pick something HALF right.  Makes all my struggles in the Pick-Em's seem less important.

My mom once told me you reach an age where you no longer care what anyone thinks about what you say or do: I'm there. Anyway I've made that comment about Otterbien "fans" for decades.

Random thoughts on the game:

1.  Congrats to Shorts, Miller, Guerrero, Kershaw, Jordan and Budzinski for leading very young team back to Salem.  What this class lacks in numbers they make up in playmaking ability and leadership.

2.  Mount's defense is sick.  Way to much speed on the edge for Bethel's running game to get a big play.  And strong enough at DT to create a stalemate in the middle.

3.  Bethel's offense SUCKS.  How in the world did that team win the West Region?  The region that looked the toughest and most balanced?  In hindsight, the west was just balanced, not tough.  They could have played 100 times and I can't see a scenario where the Bethel offense was going to do anything.  It wasn't until the game was out of reach and Mount got really vanilla on defense that Bethel could string a couple first downs together.

4.  Bethel's QB looked like the college version of Marlington High School's QB.  Minus the arm strength, vision or decision making.

5.  Congrats to Matt Piloto on the big day.  And after a few plays to settle the butterflies and get comfortable, he played well.  And boy, does he throw a nice deep ball.

6.  Double congrats for being patient and continuing to work throughout the season.  You never know when your number will be called.

7.  Assuming Seaman is healthy to go next week, which I assume he will be since he was walking after the with the slightest of limps, I wonder what LK will do?  Will we see him go to a QB rotation like Bruney/Burghardt? Or will he stay with the hot hand?  Or will he go back to Seaman?  Though I hate rotating QB's and think QB controversies can be detrimental to the locker room, having 2 very capable QB's is MUCH better than not having one like Bethel.

8.  I still can't believe how Bethel expects to compete with the top teams in the nation with that offense.   The great Augie teams had absolutely dominant offensive lines and pounded you with strong RB's that were very tough to tackle.  Bethel's O-line was solid, but not any different than Ohio Northern or Baldwin Wallace.   If they want to play smash mouth with Mount or Whitewater, they need to significantly improve their O-line play and QB efficiency too.

9.  Take Kyle Simmons off of ONU and you have Bethel.

10.  Bethel's D-line looked good against the run, but got no pass rush.  Which really helped Piloto settle down.

11.  Once again Mount's O-line pass protected very well even though they had to shuffle the line up with LG Nicolozales out.  Hopefully he's OK for next week as we could definitely use his 320 lbs frame against Whitewater.

12.  Hoped Wesley would save us for Purple Stagg #6, but didn't expect it.  Can we officially put Wesley in the 2nd tier of teams that way behind Mount and UWW?  They had Whitewater at home, in good weather, and still only scores 7 points?   Put them in the cold and crap of Wisconsin in December and you'd have had another blowout.

13.  Very happy to be in Alliance on a sunny 38 degree day instead of in Minnesota with temps in single digits, 20" of snow and a closed airport.  Thank you Bethel.

14.  Overall, Bethel was comparable to Del Valley and Alfred.  Del Valley had the better offense, but Bethel's defensive front 7 was a little better.

15.  Judging only by how each team played against Mount this year, I'd put Bethel behind ONU and fighting against Baldwin Wallace for 3rd in the OAC.

Re 3: Probably knocking UST's best offensive playmaker out of the game in the first quarter had something to do with it.

3.  Bethel's offense SUCKS.  How in the world did that team win the West Region?

Here Here! Glad that's in the open....Hope this does not ill prepare Mount for the much greater foe ahead.

boobyhasgameyo

So from what I read it appears Bethel scored a garbage time TD to bring the score to 34-14.  I know HSCoach answered, but how does everybody else feel the "West" winner compared to the Eastern teams Mount Faced this year (outside of St. Lawrence who was probably the worst or 2nd worst team in the playoffs)?  I'm personally still waiting to see another team outside of UWW play Mount close in the playoffs.  I mean the East keeps getting knocked for it, but I don't see other teams doing any better...But then again maybe I am just taking crazy pills.

He was laughing, although on crutches immediately following the game.

Wait, wait, I'm smug.?? Did I say Bethel's Offense sucked?

Although I'm wondering what it takes to make special teams at BU. Punter was so bad that he was lucky good.

Was VERY nice to have a couple minutes to talk to Coach Hallett after the game.
