reality check

Tiny little Mount Union travels to take on big and nasty Whitewater at the Stagg Bowl, what with their Division I transfers from Madison in the backfield... (completely sarcastic)

I hope that David can slay Goliath in Salem this Saturday and give some visual  balance to that Whitewater trophy case.

They've got two of the old runner-up trophies, two of the newer championship trophies and just one of the new runner-up trophies.  They look like they could use another of those darker runner-up trophies to Feng Shui out their trophy case

This has been talked about for years.   The reality is UWW is a public school and the UW System believes fimrly in the principles of DIII sports, meaning no scholarships.

Um, well, when it's to their advantage  ;D :D ;)

[Of course,,,,,,wait for it,,,,,,,"Mount hasn't played anybody" ;) :D ;)

I don't think you'll hear that from any knowledgeable WARHAWK fan.  There was a time when I'm certain that you would have but that time has come and gone.  We've played UMU often enough now to know that it doesn't matter who they've played.  They are the gold standard.  It's a bit like the misperception that you get all of those OSU transfers.  At one time we thought it true but now we know better.

The highlighted word is exactly why you should ignore anything 70's posts.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

There have been so many D3 fans who have expressed their dismay that  Mount Union and UWW are playing again in the 6th straight championship game. Same old now it is getting boring, according to many.

Here is something to consider:

The two teams MTU and UWW have won 48 playoff games over the last 6 years to have the opportunity to play for a title, so all the other teams have had 48 opportunites to beat either one of them. Keith M (D3football) mentioned this point of the Podcast today.

In D1 the BCS tries to place the 2 best teams against each other, but we all know that has not always worked, so D3 does makes it work, even though to some it is become very boring.

This year some other teams have made some real headway, so next year or coming years the "Purple" match-up could change.

But the Stagg should always be "Best on Best" IMHO, regardless if it is the same teams or colors each year. 48 chances in the last 6 years, that is what the other D3 teams need to shoot to break that string!

Amen to that.

Awesome performance Saturday from Mount Union. Very classy team and I've been impressed with how classy the Mount faithful/posters are.

HScoach you did an excellent job describing your team and pretty much all of your points held true. Also excellent job of setting the spread.

Best of luck in the championship and I hope Bethel gets an opportunity to play you guys again very soon!

You guys are all hilarious! ;D :) Oops! ::) I'm not supposed to use that term since it is "patented" by Pat! ;)  Anyway, great civil and respectful banter on here before the Stagg this week - so + k to all of you!  Have a great week and we'll see what happens on Saturday.

Question for Purple fans

What was the tipping point? What I mean is this...what was the change that began to bring this great success to your respective programs.

Mout--early 90s and they went from a very good program to elite

WW--in 2000s it seemed they took things to another level...

I am always fascinated on how people build "programs" and these two certainly got the formula working

Mt. Union head coach Larry Kehres yells at a Mt. Union player for getting an unsportsman like conduct penalty after excessive jubilation after a touchdown against Bethel during the second quarter of their NCAA Division III semifinal game at the University of Mt. Union Saturday in Alliance. Mt. Union advances to the championships with a 34-14 victory over Bethel. (Karen Schiely/Akron Beacon Journal)

GOTTA LOVE COACH KEHRES! SIMPLY THE BEST

And they used to talk about how stoic Larry was.  LOL  :D
