I think the "tipping point" came in 1985 and 1986 when the Scott Woolf and Scott Gindesberger led Raiders played the ,then, invincible  Augustana  teams.  Woolf came within a slip in the snow of beating them and Gindle, despite not playing his best game, also nearly knocked them off.  It seems to me the coaches knew how close we were and our players began to believe it was going to happen. Then in 1991 came The Great Jim Ballard and most Raider fans knew he was going to win a National Championship before he was done.  I love Neal Seaman, but he really hurt his ankle and I will be shocked if he can play at all.  He would be my choice to start if he was healthy, and in bad weather. However, Piloto on honeydew hath fed,and drunk the milk of paradise.

I think Larry would tell you to find the best young men and best athletes you can and not waste time trying to find kids that fit the style of football your comfortable coaching. Coach the team that's in front of you and exploit their talents.

Be consistent, be honest and coach fundamentals, and coach fundamentals and coach fundamentals and coach fundamentals.

Remember your not teaching football. Your teaching young men how to be successful in life.

Coach Kehres has always stated that you find your best players,,develop formations that meet their skills, then develop plays to use their abilities ..

mtfans, i am bringing a 1/4 keg of pig iron porter with me from my local brew pub.  it won a gold medal at the great american brew fest in denver this year.  make sure you stop by and get you one or 2.  figured i would add a different micro than some of the others.  they dont bottle so you can only get it at the pub so this will be a first for all of you.  if you like porters, you will love this one.  by the way after much soul searching, well not really, just tired of some posters arrogance i am changing my alligience to mount.  you guys have always been good to me when i visit.  so here goes g      o       m  o  u n t, will take some getting used to. :D

No Purple Raiders on the AFCA All American Team.

WR Mike Preston from Heidelberg the only OAC'er.

Shorts was probably hurt by missing some games, but I would have thought Budzinski would have a chance.

Thanks Wesleydad, you've been a great bellweather to date for UWW- you've made my week  :D

Seventies, what got into you?  There wasn't a single antagonistic comment in that last email of yours... are you ok?

Realitycheck- You'll have to forgive us UWW fans, getting beat by Mt. for second place is not a habbit of ours.  ;D

Edward de Vere- More please, that was awesome.

By the way, I don't get where that's coming from. Not the first time I've seen this referenced.

I wish it were different but we're 2-5 vs Mount Union.   Unfortunately beating them hasn't become a habit either.

I wasn't sure either Pat since I didn't recall seeing you use it.  However, being that I perhaps missed it somewhere, I went with it on the recommendation of our colleagues i.e. your posters! ;D  Anyway, we'll go with it as it, in a sense, is flattery/a tribute to you! ;) ;D

Re the Green Bay Packers reference by Larry Kehres:

"As we approached the brow of the hill from which it was expected we could see Harris' camp, and possibly find his men ready formed to meet us, my heart kept getting higher and higher until it felt to me as though it was in my throat.  I would have given anything to be back in Illinois.  . . . When we reached a point from which the valley below was in full view I halted.  The place where Harris had been encamped  a few days before was still there and the marks of a recent encampment were plainly visible, but the troops were gone.  My heart resumed its place.  It occured to me at once that Harris had been as much afraid of me as I had been of him.   This was a view of the question I had never taken before; but it was one I never forgot afterwards."

Mt. Union head coach Larry Kehres yells at a Mt. Union player for getting an unsportsman like conduct penalty after excessive jubilation after a touchdown against Bethel during the second quarter of their NCAA Division III semifinal game at the University of Mt. Union Saturday in Alliance. Mt. Union advances to the championships with a 34-14 victory over Bethel. (Karen Schiely/Akron Beacon Journal)
