Agreed...I was referencing more of the style of the runs.  I do think the drops by the receivers made some difference with that, too.  Even so, they didn't shy away from the pass simply because it was a new quarterback or because the recievers dropped passes.  They kept it balanced and then, as LK said, "all heck broke loose there for a while."

Didn't watch last weekends game on the internet, but I did listen to HSCoach and Ric on my iPhone while at a wrestling meet.

Sounded like when Piloto first went in, they tried to get the run game going to get him acclimated to the game.  It also sounded like once he started throwing the ball, there were some drops by the WRs.

I went to the game Saturday.  There were some drops early.  The ball is coming at the receiver's hands much faster and harder when Piloto is in there.  He's got a cannon.

Oh and BTW, (not directed at you jaypeter):

After 10 National Championships, I believe that LK (and his staff) can Coach and CALL WHATEVER DARN PLAYS they want to.  I think they've earned that right.

One of the MAJOR strengths pointed out by many over the years is Coach Kehres' ability to make in game adjustments.

I'm sorry UMUDad doesn't like the calls, but Jiminy Christmas, they made it to the Stagg Bowl AGAIN, with a team that many MTU supporters thought might get beaten this year.

Sit Back, Watch the Games, and Enjoy the Ride!  It won't last forever (even though others in D3 think it already has).

good luck, you'll need it-apertif? So YOU are having the glee party?

ok, which one of you donny trumps would bet on the bowl game? again in my defense, coaching at UMU is  beyond
reproach-no question..... play-calling? I'm not so sure, and I've been around for 29 games now

This comment is funny to me.

I would say that the Mount coaching staff is pretty much beyond reproach when it comes to any and all pregame, in game, and postgame decisions including playcalling.  You've been around for 29 games.  Kehres has been around for a little while longer, and has managed to amass a record of 303-22-3.  If a 92% win percentage over 25 years doesn't earn him the benefit of the doubt, I'm not sure what does.

Am I saying that the perfect play is called every time?  Of course not, but if you're going to complain about a guy who puts up those kind of win totals, I'd hate to see what you think of John Wooden, after all, he only managed to win 80% of his games.  Slacker.

If you've got a problem with the playcalling, just send LK up to JCU.  We'll take him.

instead of hearing "Mount has never seen...." from an opponent, it seems like we are experiencing a first here... the ole "Mount doesn't..." from its own fanbase??

Having been in game planning rooms with Coach LK,,16 years vs you watching 29 games,,you have no idea what you are talking about.THE Plays that are called have the best % chance of being successful do to the players abilities,,the opponents abilities,,defensive plans that the d is showing,,score situations during the game,,and many other factors,,and they must be made in 25 seconds or less.every play is designed to be successful,,some times a play does not work because of a great play by defense,,a mistake or miss assignment by the o a strong wind gust etc . Plays are not called to please the fans,,or to be fancy or tricky, they are called because the film study of the opposition shows that they should be GREAT calls. Coach LK also asks the players what they feel will go as the game goes on,,
There are people who can coach and there are people who can be fans,,You are one of these,,LK is the other !!!!

I guess it just goes to show that no matter how successful you are you still can't please everyone.  It's hard to imagine that any Mount fan would be critical of what the coaching staff has done unless 1. their kid wasn't playing as much as they think he should be, 2 they are impossible to please or 3 they simply don't have a clue.  No offense intended but other than score on every play I'm not sure what more than they've already done the staff would have to do to please MUdad.  Evidently having the most successful program in the division isn't sufficent.

I'm embarrassed for and by the actions and statements of UMUplayerdad over the last 24 hours.  Being a former player who had a dad that was critical of anything and everything during my prep and college playing days, I guess I am thankful for the fact that he wasn't internet savvy enough to make so many ridiculous statements on here.

All that I can add is the hope that you can bring yourself to take a step back and ask yourself what you're accomplishing in waging war with other Mount Union fans, former players and the like.  Instead of putting on a united front as Purple Raider faithful; there's bickering, name-calling and profanity being thrown every which way.   The Warhawks reading this thread have to be chuckling at the dissent taking place amongst the opposition.  Thankfully the players and staff aren't at odds like what's been put on display here and this will have zero impact on the game itself as we all know.

Let's just calm down, stop the mud-slinging and profanity, and get back to supporting the OAC/Mount Union/your kids/the program.

It is with heavy heart, and much angst that I must report I will not be making what has become an almost annual trek to the Stagg Bowl.   :'(

A company Christmas party on Friday, coupled with my usual "go to" dog-sitter bailing on me for Saturday means I will be watching my first Stagg Bowl from home in quite a while.  I didn't make the 2006 game, but I was in Chicago at the time and watched it at ESPN Zone (which was pretty cool).

In 2003 we didn't make the trip, and had to watch that debacle at the local BW-3's.

To all who are going, please have one (or multiple) for me.  I will be tuning in with the D-III gang online, and obviously watching on ESPNU (which I get at my house).

SAFE JOURNEYS TO ALL!

I did notice LK go onto the field several times during the Bethel game to call plays...He appeared to take over once he knew the QB situation had changed...Further, I have NEVER seen Lk high five a player on the sideline.  I think he was genuinely excited for Piloto and the fact that the kid got a shot and did the job...Not happy for himself, but for the player and team...great sight

As a mechanical officer with a railroad for many years, I would supervise (read drink coffee and cut jokes) while others performed their assigned tasks, much like coaching except the enemy was cold, darkness and 100 ton railroad cars. Every now then something failed to work that had always worked and out came the expression, "I think ya need a bigger hammer."

During this playoff run, LK has seldom had to send anybody for a bigger hammer. I know from experience, it's nice to have all those other tools safe and warm in your tool case when you need them.

Guys I gave up my junior year of football in high school because of an overbearing and obsessive father.  Call it teenage stubborness or call it coming of age, but I thought long and hard about what I loved about football and if it was worth the issues and harassment my dad put me through.  After some sole-searching, I gave up the game in the off-season between sophomore and junior year.  I cried in the Coach's office while I explained my decision and did the best I could to be a man about it.

After sitting in the stands as a junior and watching my "brothers" play their butts off, I think my dad finally got it figured out.  My dad and I didn't really talk or communicate much at the time and it took him everything he had (I'm sure) to write me a four page letter apologizing for how he had acted and acknowledging his role in my decision to give up something I loved because it just wasn't worth the ridicule and angst he sent my way or the way of the coaching staff.  He went so far as to write that he'd not attend my games senior year if playing was what I wanted to do and he was indeed keeping me from doing what I loved.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about football and think about the year I lost in that decision but I also feel like it was a decision I had to make.  I needed to do it to stand up for what I believed and I needed to do it to set the record straight.  I think that experience has helped me immensely as a coach and mentor to the kids I've had the privilege to work with over the last 4+ years and think although we still don't have the best relationship, it's helped my father and I to at least see each other a little more eye to eye.  We'd have nothing if I hadn't gone through that tough time IMHO.

Sorry to railroad things but this obviously impacts me and I just hope it causes someone to scratch their head a little or think about what can happen as a result of the things we say.
