reality check

That's a real good place for him to catch on.  I was somewhat curious why KC wouldn't have snatched him up given that Weis is leaving for Florida.  He would have been reunited with Matt Cassell and working in a good offense that was being run under a similar philosophy and system under Weis.  Todd Haley seemed to be creating a KC version of New England.

I have to imagine that he's in a good spot though with all of Bradford's potential, a couple of good years left in Steven Jackson's tank.  Danny Amendola could end up a Welker clone and if they address the receiver position just a little, in the NFC West, he's in a good spot to do big things.

You might see someone familiar  ;D
Does Mallett know who he played for?  Do the Buckeyes know who they beat in the Sugar Bowl?

Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas Wildcats

(Did Adam Irgang play for the Blue Raiders?)

Cecil Shorts #10 is one 5 WR's on the East team, hope he does well! :)

This from ESPN.com coverage of Shrine Game Day 2:

Cecil Shorts, Mount Union: He was 150 pounds coming out of high school and ignored by recruiters, which is how he ended up at Division III Mount Union. He doesn't have a chip on his shoulder, he has a block. Thing is, he uses that energy well. At almost 6-foot and 190 pounds, he's solidly built and put together well. He has strong arms and good hands. He's quick and catches the ball away from his frame. He drops an occasional pass, but he doesn't let the ball get into his body and he gets upfield in a hurry. He hurt his hamstring on Wednesday, but he's already proven he belongs here.

ThreeBuffaloSabres,

Thanks for that note. Cecil according to the Mount Roster and standing by him, he is at least 6'1". I remember him as a freshman, skinny but extremely fast. His published 40 yd. speed  (4.42) is in the upper group of the WR's. The combine will tell more next month. :)

I hope he does well.  His story reminds me of another well-known player - Tony Dorsett.  Some of you might recall that he was a 157 lb freshman running back at Pitt when Jackie Sherrill brought in 80 players that year.  Dorsett was 6th string RB at the beginning of the season and didn't even play in the first couple of games.  Due to unfortunte injuries to those ahead of him, he was put in a game (it may have been the 3rd or 4th game of that season - I don't recall just which one without checking back in my "museum files, but I know it was well into the first third of the season) and he went on to run for over 1,000 yards that season.  Of course, we know the rest of his story - he was 190 lbs by his freshman year and his NCAA career rushing yards stood until our DIII guy R. J. Bowers of Grove City College (PA) broke that, until that RB from the DII school out midwest broke that in turn (I forget the latter's name).  Anyway, I see shorts possibly getting to the next level, just like Garcon.  I wish him the best and hope it does happen. At least we know he will give it his best shot, and I hope they (NFL) gives him a decent chance at it.

Yeah, we have that game and then the dreaded "college football withdrawal syndrome".  I'm dreading it already.  When that occurs soon, I just may have to pull out some old CD's and what some of the past several years best/classic games! ::) ;D ;)

Danny Woodhead-New England Pat's RB from Chadron State-A fine institution that offered 70's a scholarship out of Omaha Westside High School

PS-It's quicker getting to Chicago from Omaha than it is to Chadron. (40 miles to Wyoming border, 25 miles to the N Dakota border)

Thanks seventies, for the exact info on Woodhead.  Also, aren't you glad you turned that down and went to that "other" school rather than Chadron? ;) :)

Awesome, seventies!  Those creative writing classes you took at Mount Union have certainly paid off! ;)  Whoever said football players were dumb [even us ex-ones]?!!!  ;D

IMHO, Cecil Shorts will be drafted. The question is how will he perform in the game today and the NFL combine in February. He could be a 4th round pick and hopefully with a team with a good QB and a good OC! :)

This just in: OSU President Gee remarked to the media that having a Mount Union player in the Shrine Bowl is an offense to all the quality BCS athletes.  ;) ;) ;)

Nice one!  +k

But I think Gee has learned his lesson.  I doubt he is going to comment about ANYTHING related to football for a VERY long time! :D
