Well, let's see. We were 3-0 before our first home game. Second home game was OCTOBER 16th. Played 6 away games in the regular season. Started playoffs with St Lawrence, Delaware Valley and Alfred (Perennial Draws). Played Heidelberg and Musky at home. The concession stand was out of Ju-Ju-bees. We won the first three games 147-35.

Raider68, K & J's Dad and seventies:

K&J's Dad: well, you are excused, but not seventies. ;) Oh wait, my apologies.  We do have to excuse seventies because a) seriously, he had his medical back problem, but also b) as he mentioned, the concession stands were out of those chewy treats that pull our fillings out! ;D  Aside from all those victories as we well know, that "treat" issue alone would account for the Mount attendance "dip" in the figures! ;D

But, all that being said, Raider68, without making me take all the time to look it up by going through the box scores, what then, was the Mount average attendance at their regular home games this past season?

Also, you might be interested to see the comparison of various attendance figures from the three NCAA levels I posted over on our MIAA board.  Some very interesting results/trends, IMO.

Anyway, thanks for the explanations guys, seriously.

Formerd3db,

The average Home Game attendance for Mount Union in 2010 was 5,410.
This places Mount much higher with other D3 schools if one does not include playoffs. :)

Interesting that as low as Mount's attendance may appear, they still had better regular season attendance that Ashland and their new zillion dollar complex

Yes, that is interesting.  It is great to see that, as good as the Great Lakes DII conference is in that level, that DIII football in Ohio and Michigan outdraws them, with the exception of Grand Valley State (10,180), Saginaw Valley State (5,737) although Mount was close to the latter).  Ashland had 3,765 avg. home attendance, although unfortunately, the other Ohio DII schools did not do as well as the DIII schools; Findlay (in the 1,600 -1,800 range, although they had a terrible year), Tiffin even worse (under 1,000 ? as I recall from the list - ouch! ::)), Lake Erie (1,690 although we'll give them a break since it is a new established program), Ohio Dominican 1,660: even Merceyhurst and Gannon, which have now moved to the PA DII conference were in the 1,500 range only; and...some of our own MIAA schools outdrew the other DII Great Lakes schools such as Hillsdale, Mich Tech, Wayne State (although the latter has done well in recent years with incereased attendance due to better teams).  Indianapolis also had good attendance at 3,772, Ferris State down at 2,973 adn independent St. Joseph's (IN) had 2,462).

So overall, again, I think the DIII schools in Ohio and MI (and IN) and western PA are in good shape, even our own MIAA and even Wilmington did as well as some of those DII schools (if you can believe that ::))..  Now, you guys need to get Hiram going - they only had about 653 and that isn't a good sign for new coach Randy Moore.

Facilities notwithstanding, not sure if Ashland comes to mind as a top notch program! ???

Actually, Raider68, I think they are better then they have been in recent years and are (seemingly) making the effort to elevate their DII perception as "big time" DII compared to some of those other DII schools.  At least that is my take, but, then, what do I know about Ohio fb?? ;D

Ashland JV's gave our JV's one of their few loses in the past ten years or so. I know from a local young man that many of those kids at Ashland hadn't been JV's for a while. Coach didn't want to lose twice in the same year to Mount Union

Giving thanks today that the OAC Swim meet is over. My sinuses couldn't have taken a fourth day

Ashland does seem to be making steady improvement in their program in the GLIAC. In football, Findlay seems to be going in bits and spurts. They did win the DII National Championship in basketball a few years ago. But Tiffin U. has a lot of work to do in football. They have been woeful the last few years. Heidelberg is by far a better draw in Tiffin. I prefer DIII football, but with the schools coming into DII, (Lake Erie, Ohio Dominican, Notre Dame College, along with Malone and Walsh being accepted to DII), maybe the formation of a DII Ohio conference is a possiblity someday. I think Ohio college football is in good shape, and I'm glad I'm in a location to get to different games and keep up with what is happening on the field.

I was at Walsh today and the one thing that amazed me was, it was the middle of Sunday afternoon and the weight room was locked.

Off the subject but, Congratulations to Mount Union Head Womens  Coach Suzy Venet for winning the regular season OAC Championship as a great player and now as a great coach, Something not to many coaches ever get to do.

It is my understanding that the Raider weight is always open! :)

Not sure how Hiram counts attendance since there are no fences or really any gate. I guess it's like a Mount Union ladies basketball game, get a student assistant to walk around and count late in the first half

.....each of those will take about the same amount of time.

Mount attendance is also hurt on one weekend  because of OHSAA Football playoffs in Canton/Massilon

On another note we had a foot or more of snow up near Buffalo,,and we just happened to be here to ski,,twas a good day !!! ;D ;D ;D

bhth:

Yes, we got smashed with 1 1/2-2 feet (with drifts up to 3-4 feet) yesterday afternoon/last evening.  It quit most of today, however, has just started in again with a somewhat light and blowing snow.  Anyway, for those of you who do the "winter sports thing", that is great.  I was getting spoiled with the early thaw, yet, needed to remember that it is...still February. ;D  Anyway, stay safe, stay warm when you ski! :)
