Anyone heard of other draft eligible football players are coming to Mount on the 16th for Pro Day in addition to Cecil Shorts? :-\

Kyle Miller will probably work out.  He posted on Facebook today that he is also going to the OSU Pro Day tomorrow.

Is this Pro Day actually a private workout for a few scouts for CSIII? Just my opinion, but it seems it wouldn't be that beneficial for NFL top personnel executives or head coaches to attend a "Pro Day" at a DIII school looking at potential NFL caliber players. No offense to Mount or DIII, but DIII schools just don't have that many players that the NFL are looking at.  Seems like being invited at OSU would be the better way to go.

Not sure on who is participating, but here is the release:
MTU Pro Day

I am assuming that there were enough requests/inquires from NFL types to see Cecil in action that MTU decided to host one themselves instead of sending him to OSU.  This gives him a chance to work out in friendly environment and also catch passes from a QB he is more familiar with. I'm guessing there may be some local D1 athletes attending.  Maybe from Akron and Kent?

Kyle Miller (TE) from MTU has also been scouted some and may bet a free-agent offer or two.

K & J's Dad,

Thanks for the update! We have snow here with more coming later. Hopefully there will be a dry track on the 16th! :) +k

It would be great to see Kyle Miller get drafted maybe as a long snapper, but, more likley as a free agent.  His work-outs at Mount and OSU will tell! :)

I think you'd have to be an extraordinary talent as a long snapper to get drafted. Unlikely for a team to waste a draft pick on one, IMO.

BoBo,

Agree, but K. Miller is a huge, fast, great hands TE. Not sure how many long snappers in the NFL can do both! :)

reality check

They don't use long snappers in the NFL to do both.  It's almost irrelevant.  They may be excited to bring in an athletic snapper but if he comes into the league it will be as a free agent (.01% chance of getting drafted as a snapper), and it will be at one position or another; not both.

nice to see most of the schedules for 2011 have been posted. Wish Ohio Northern and JCU would post theirs soon also. I go to games all over ohio and trying to make out schedule now. Ohio Northern is still one school I haven't been too yet.

Being huge, fast, great hands TE isn't necessarily a ticket to the NFL, especially if you're coming out of DIII. I've seen a whole bunch of other draft eligible TE's who possess the same characteristics who played against much better competition, which makes them easier to evaluate. He has a uphill battle to make it in the NFL as a TE, IMO. If he's as good as you say he is as a long snapper - that might be his way of getting a free agent look. Then, who knows, when he makes it as a long snapper, maybe the team he's on "discovers" he can run routes and catch the ball, too. Spencer Havner came to the Packers as a LB, but they found out he could catch the ball, too. He made a few TD grabs as a third TE before his season ended with an injury. It's not out of the realm of possibilities.

I know you saw the numbers UWW's Lane Olson put up at Pro Day at UW-Madison last week including the 40 times of 4.41 and 4.39. Even though those and the numbers from his other drills would put him in the top 3 in all strong safeties at the combine, we both know he isn't about to get drafted. Miller would have to put up some ridiculously outrageous numbers to even have a shot to be drafted as a TE. But, even then...I don't know.  ;)   :-\

BoBo,

At the end of the day, it is just great that any DIII player(s) are in the conversation for the NFL. A few have made it but more now are simply getting a shot! :)

ONU's 2011, 2012 and 2013 schedules have been posted for a long time with the exception of their non-conf game and times but dates and locations are listed for the OAC slates.  There is a "future schedules" link on the football home page.

With the NFL owners/players not making any real progress, the excitement of the Draft has become non-existent! ::) Hope the scouts scheduled to come on the 16th do make it!
