I heard one of the boys SI slandered is a Youngstown boy, that his dad is upset and is going to sue.  If,and I repeat if, this rumor is true, the guys at SI better pray the case isn't filed in Youngstown and hang onto their hats if it is. Call of of their boys a crook? In Mahoning County? In Youngstown? Get ready for the reality series, " Going to trial in Mahoning County Common Please Court Against Youngstown Lawyers in Front of a Mahoning County Jury." Maybe those guys should have read up some on Mahoning County and Youngstown first.  Do you think the people there agree with SI about Coach Tressel? Think they might get upset about SI lying about their own?
You are correct about it being a kid from Younstown.  I think if they can go after some deep pockets they should.  There is no excuse for such shoddy journalism.  And it will helkp OSU if they expose these writers for piling on.  15 yard or 15 million dollar penalty.

Yeesh! Really, you're going to argue the problem in this situation is the media and journalists?!? Really, it's not the screwed up program, screwed up coach(es?) and some screwed up players? This circling of the wagons and scapegoating is why tOSU  ::) is in the situation it's in.

The major problem here is that everyone is trying to shift blame. The administration is blaming the coach, the coach is blaming the feds and his 'fatherly instincts', the players are blaming their impoverished upbringings. If some people would take some personal responsibility, it would go a long ways to restoring the Universities name. And if tOSU's fans would get off their high horses and recognize their beloved school cheated and broke the rules...period...the school would be forced to own up to accountability a whole lot faster.

Say what you want about the school, but one reason it's reacted so poorly to this whole fiasco is that it has a fan-base who are blindly loyal and promote such underhanded tactics. Which is precisely the reason this type of thing is so rampant in the SEC...

Whew...now that I got that off my chest!

So if you boill down what is known for sure the transfgressions (other than Tressel's cover-up) are pretty minor.  If they cannot prove anything else what is the appropriate penalty?

If these alligations were so "minor" I don't think Tressel would be so quick to resign....or forced to resign.

I agree with what badgerwarhawk, I think there's more going on than JUST tatoos....this doesn't pass the smell test. Tressel wanted out before more allegations came down on him.
he resigned because he covered it up.  Sort of like Watergate the initial issue was small but the major transgression was covering it up.

02 Warhark,

This did not come as a surprize, but I for one, would rather focus on D3 football vs. OSU sorting out their issues which they will! :)

reality check

Had a good time back in Ohio.  I worked the Martin Bayless Camp Sunday at Welcome Stadium and made it to my high school to tour the new facilities and up to ONU to meet up with plenty of old faces.  Got plenty of family time and made it a football trip too.  I do miss Ohio football (and obviously family).

I was on the football staff at BG when Martin played there....his HS couldn't afford film on him (back in the 16mm days), so he came as a "preferred walk on".  Needless to say, that status changed quickly.  His first BG-Toledo game (soph. year?), he intercepted three passes and returned them all for touchdowns.

Watched the Mount Union receivers and quarterbacks passing practice last week. They look real good. A lot of impressive athletes. Quarterbacks threw the ball very well. Speed everywhere.

I do however know two of these kids personally mentioned in the SI article.  I am not condoning anything anyone at OSU did period.  I do know for a fact that these two kids did not get tatoos at the parlor as the SI story said.  One got his in Youngstown and I remember talking to his dad about it who didn't like it but he went with the kid to check it (the parlor) out when he got them.  The other kid does not have a tatoo on his body.

That's not what the SI article said.  It never said these kids all got ink:

"he witnessed nine other active players swap memorabilia or give autographs for tattoos or money. Those players were defensive back C.J. Barnett, linebacker Dorian Bell, running back Jaamal Berry, running back Bo DeLande, defensive back Zach Domicone, linebacker Storm Klein, linebacker Etienne Sabino, defensive tackle John Simon and defensive end Nathan Williams."

The bottom line is OSU is going to get hammered.  The NCAA is here right now investigating anything and everything.  And that would be bad news for ANY program, not just OSU.

And as I said the two I know have said they have never been to this or any other tatoo parlor in Columbus nor have they ever signed anything for money.  Klein is a back-up wy would anyone pay for his autograph?

Dr. Acula

^^^ Why would anyone pay for a back-up's autograph?  You got me.  I wouldn't.  You wouldn't.  We're sane though!  In this city I guarantee you people would and have done it.  But that certainly doesn't mean Klein did.

Storm Klein and Johny Simon are likely the two most straight laced kids at OSU.   I am certain that neither of these guys are capable of a violation in the regard mentioned in the SI article.

What really gets me is that now Pryor just walks away from it.  Screw the athletic department, screw the football program and staff, screw my teammates, screw the university.  The hell with all of you.  I'm outta here.   You'll never convince me that he didn't know what he was doing was against the rules and jeopardized the university and the football program.  He has to be one of the most self-centered, selfish athletes on the face of the planet.  Why in god's name someone with Tressel's reputation would lie for someone as selfish as Pryor is beyond me.  And Pryor will walk away without a second thought.  It disgusts me.
