Anyone interested in taking over the OAC Pick-Ems this fall?

Since I've already retired the micro-phone, I might as well retire the dart board I used to set the spreads and completely step back into the real world.  Hopefully it takes longer than the opening weekend for the wife to get sick of me being around......

Are you breaking up with us???

Uh.....well......um.....yeah.  I guess you could say so.   Though we can still be friends.

Before TMZ can break the story, I am here to announce that Skunk & I are not renewing our season tickets for this year.  The $25 thing is annoying, but really was just the last little push we needed to break the routine.  I think we have had season tickets for the last 15-17 years (some of those years are a bit foggy).

For me personally, and as previously stated, with Jr.'s playing schedule this year, I could make maybe two or three games.  Skunk is working a job that requires many Saturdays, so that was his dilemma as well.  I convinced him that we could still go when we want, and maybe...just maybe....see how it feels to sit on the HOME side for once.  Especially in the play-offs if Mount is able to get there this year.

Of course, I will be checking in here as per usual.  Football is about two months away, and I am looking forward to it.  Carry on!   8-)

SKunks_s,

I am on the fence regarding my tickets. I have had them only 6 years, since we returned to Ohio. While I will attend many games, a view of the game from a different location may be a good option. I am annoyed with the timing of sending your money in with less than 2 weeks notice. IMHO, Mount's season tickets holders could drop by 20%. The roll-out was ill-advised and poorly done!

I will not buy season tickets and never have. I'm sure that Terry and I will still be able to purchase Section 18, Row A, Seats 1&2. If your not familiar, these are hands down to two worst tickets in the stadium. If you could see over the people walking in front of you, you couldn't see over the people in the concession stand line
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

When I renewed my tickets yesterday, I asked how the renewals were going and was told that they are down significantly.  Dropping 20% might be an underestimate.

Maybe 33%! They may have to extend the deadline, to see if the response improves! ::)

If they're down 33%, maybe we could find something closer than section 5.5 at the top, but we like the faithful we sit with. Hope they'll be back... The husband would prefer to try his luck at the gate, but I've been stuck in a windy endzone too many times to take that chance. Hope to see some of you this fall. Even with the surcharge, its still a cheap date.

Flipping channels I found a CFL game on NFL Network and got to watch Jamal play a little for the BC Lions.  The CFL is just strange.  He had just one carry to pick up a long first down and had five catches out of the backfield for 25 yards.  Hopefully he has another solid year up north.

And he's dropped the cowbell photo ... I think he means it this time!

Since I was the person who upgraded the spreadsheet functions for HSCoach, and have no life anyway, it would be pretty easy for me to take over the clerical part of the Pick-Ems.

However, there is no way that I could derive spreads nearly as accurate nor entertaining as what we are used to.

Can I get someone to step up to the dartboard?

I know I couldn't handle tracking and inputting all the picks.  If it were simply setting lines, I might be able to pull it off but honestly with all my fall football coaching duties, I have a hard time getting my picks in any given week.  I would like to think I'm as full of crap as hscoach though and could set some pretty annoying lines.   ;)

Maybe this year's OAC Pickems may not have a spread.  :( It is more of a challenge with them and HScoach was really creative, but it takes time especially those heavily involved in other football programs.

FYI, the tallying of the picks is easy and quick.  It's setting the lines that takes the time.  Lots of research required to make it more than a wild ass guess.  Especially early in the season when the comparative strength of the teams is unknown.

There are a multitude of reasons behind my decisions to quit the radio broadcasts and the Pick-Ems.   The time spent on the Pick-Em is pretty low down the list.

As a suggestion, maybe get a handful of guys willing to take turns week-by-week setting the spreads?

Or maybe don't use spreads but a weighted "confidence factor" on who will win.  I'd been contemplating adding something like this to the spreads for years, but never pulled the trigger.  For example if there are 10 games, the poster lists the games from 10 to 1 in order of confidence in picking the winner. Wouldn't necessarily need spreads if you the contestant had to weight the games?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!
