Still hunting for that quick running back
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

"For the first time in a long time"?
Mt has been on the losing end of 3 of the last 4 Stagg Bowls and they opened last year as #2 just as they do this year.  Seems they've had plenty o incentive of late.
No disrespect to Mt because as 02 said, you are the best program ever in DIII (and maybe all levels).
I am eager to see how they respond in 2011. The fact that Coach K is going back to play calling is very, very interesting. I sense a rededication to developing a premiere running game- enough of that fancy schmancy "throw the ball to Garcon and Shorts and let em do their thing" stuff.

I tend to think we're going to see the ball in the air quite often, with a control style passing game.  Short to mid-range, high % passes.
12-0 = 13

I know it is a long way down the road, but if Mount would meet WWW there will be sleepless nights figuring out how to contain Coppage..he is amazing
I just wonder if NCAA would ever place Mount and WWW in brackets where they may meet in semis to avoid the "same ole Stagg Bowl" matchup...

Maybe it could happen this year! It will depend on how each top teams in the regions perform this year along with Mount and UWW. My guess is there will again be at least one purple team at the Stagg this year. Maybe it will be the Raider's year, given early signs going into camp! :)

Who will be the starting QB and RB this year? Assume front runners are Seaman and Murray. Tons of depth at the WR position. Does AJ return? It seems like this team is lacking "big names".

pradierguy,

What I am hearing a week ago is:

1. Seaman will have first shot at QB, Piloto will see good time as well.

2. Murray starts at TB, Ryder at FB

3. AJ  returns as WR with Brown, and Collins, not sure about TE

4. Now that Cecil and Kyle Miller are gone, no real big names at this point, but there
is some top notch freshman coming! :)

Oh bummer, you spoiled the fun of me recommending that he buy the 2011 edition of Kickoff to get his answers.

I did the OAC capsules this year and put together a pretty good list of the players who will be pushing Murray (and what he needs to be wary of) in my write-ups. All that along with every other position on the team :)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Pfffft....seriously.  Emma.......go away.  You try to say Mount was "pro receiver driven" for the last three years success-wise, and then were debunked by your brethren.  Blow it out your arse.

We have a pre-season All-American at WR, and he will definitely earn that moniker unless injured.  Ryan.....I HOPE you are correct about RB's challenging Murray....because Mount needs it.  The fact is the defense will be extremely nasty, and that will carry them through while the offense gets better and better every week.

Mount will be ready...they always are.  It will be very interesting to see what develops as the year goes on.

Things are good in A-town.

What's wrong Skunks, didn't I give Mt enough love for your liking?  Only those that think and speak what Skunks believes are welcome here.

Murray is a very good back, but I'm sure if they get another TB from Martin's Ferry, he'll get a good look.

Hiya, Boyz!

Still willing to run the Pick-Ems, since I have the spreadsheet.

Would love to have someone more in-tune to create the spreads.

But if no one steps up, I will try and do the spreads, but they will seriously suck compared to what we are used to.

What is the reality?

Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

emma,
1) we believe in quoting correctly on the OAC board.  I believe there might be a beginners course for the badgers joining our board
2)  How about bring your ideas about the Oshkosh-Mount game to the OAC board?  I'm sure the guys would love to hear about the great Titan challenge

Greetings Northerners. I'm venturing over here to further shamelessly plug a little interview I did with former star St. John's QB Tom Linnemann, who led the Johnnies to the 2000 title game against Mount. It's mostly Johnnie talk but there's a lot of interesting insight into college football, Gagliardi and other items. But, just to show this isn't totally about spamming you...there's also a tidbit on Mount. When talking about what it was like being able to call his own plays as the QB (a Gagliardi tradition), he said:

Quote
There was only one time I was ever surprised and that was in the national championship against Mount Union. I was surprised that they were that good. Chris Kern, their CB who tried out with the Detroit Lions after transferring there from SCSU, was like playing against Deion Sanders in a video game. He was everywhere. He was a better cornerback than Tony Beckham, the kid who got drafted in the 4th round to the Titans from Wisconsin-Stout.

Wait, now I plugged the main part you'd want to read. Still, if you want to read more, I hope you check it out.

1) Good one Purple- you're funny.  I admit I do struggle at times with posting technology.
2) Gladly.  To all the Mt supporters, I recently posted in the WIAC boards that I felt Oshkosh would give Mt a game- which I defined as "late in the fourth quarter, the outcome is in doubt".  I gave my reasons for that on the WIAC board.
As you can imagine, there are many, many that disagree with me- both WIAC and OAC, but that's ok.   I think some readers interpreted my posts to be dismissive or disrespectful of Mt's historical accomplishments- but that simply isn't how I feel.

I believe the better DIII programs are getting closer and closer to catching both Mt and UWW.  Specifically with Mt,  in looking at the 6 year run of Stagg Bowls, I think it's difficult to measure how close other teams may be to Mt given the impact an NFL caliber reciever has on the overall game.  I for one believe the impact of Garcon and Shorts has been tremendous.  In all 6 of the last Stagg Bowls, one or the other has been "the most dangerous weapon" that UWW had to account for.  In 5 of the last 6 Stagg Bowls (2007 the exception), one or the other made the plays that directly kept Mt in the game.  That's not to say the other players weren't great, or that the teams overall weren't great,  I'm simply speaking of the impact the two NFL players had.

Coming full circle to the Oshkosh discussion, I believe Oshkosh has enough high quality DIII talent to compete with Mt this year- now that the NFL talent is gone.  I am not saying Oshkosh is better, or has replaced Mt.  I think they will give Mt a game.

I still think Mt is the most impressive program in all of DIII history.
The end.
