Awwww. Did your precious purple panty raiders get their outfits muddy??? Can't believe all the crying about field conditions.. This is football. Played on natural grass in different weather conditions.. You guys must just love arena league football pllayed indoors, under cozy conitions. Quit crying and give ONU some credit for playing a great game.

Another equipment manager heard from. I think you'll find that Larry Kehres and Mount Union have a very deep respect for ONU and their friend Dean Paul. As for us fans, mud and crappy field conditions are not necessarily an great part of the game. Granted a decade ago, playoff games happened in Alliance on frozen mud after the tarps were pealed off and ripped off the grass. The ONU defense played an inspired game as you will see if you bother to read some posts.

Not an equipment manager, just a fan of real football, played on various fields in real weather conditions. To imply that Northern purposely let the field grow long and allowed the marching band on it to make conditions worse is rediculous. Both teams played in the same conitions.

It just seems that there are a lot of blaming the weather and field conditions that "allowed" Mount to only win by 8.

I think ONU was looking past the musky game and they were really caught off guard.

Go Bears!

Gary, Good thing we advanced from Leather helmets. If you are going to have grass fields- Cover it.

The field was bad, but as someone pointed out, not even close to the condition of Mount's old field during the '93 playoffs.

I thought the best drive of the game by Mount was the first scoring drive, executed very well on the strength of Pilato's arm.

LK chose to play a very conservative game and slug it out in the mud.  He's the man with 300+ wins, so I won't second guess him.

ONU played very tough on defense, but did not appear to have the talent on offense that Mount has.  How they lost to Muskingum is a puzzle, esp. after seeing the Muskies 3 point win over Wilma.
12-0 = 13

Not used to seeing trash talk from a "2 poster". Anyway - to imply that ONU did not leave the grass long and try to slow Mount down is ridiculous. Even in D3 teams try to limit each other. Dean Paul knows that Mount is fast and knows good field conditions help them. ONU played a great game - not taking anything away from them - but part of that great game plan was taking advantage of the field conditions (i.e. make it sloppy). Everyone knows Mount practices on field turf (I think it actually hurts them come Stagg Bowl in recent years) while ONU practices in the slop they had Saturday. Don't think Coach Paul did not see that as an advantage for his Polar Bears.

How does practicing on turf hurt them in a Stagg Bowl that is played on turf?

I can think of possibly one better reason that could explain the Raiders hurt in the Stagg Bowl in recent years.   ;)

It's interesting how the Mount backers (myself included) start to come up with reasons why we don't win by 30.  ONU is consistently a good team/program, and on Saturday, they played a great game (defensively).  Embarrassed by last week, this was their season/playoff/league championship game.  LK hasn't won 300 games by accident.  "You play to win the game".....and that's what LK did.  Get ahead by two scores, become conservative due to field conditions, and let the best part of your team (defense) win the game.  We'll all feel better again next week on field turf vs. Marietta.....

On a side note, perhaps OSU could use LK as an offensive coordinator??  That was pathetic.  UC would roll the bucks by 3 td's.

Agree, the Raiders could have scored late but Coach Kehres ran the clock down. There are 3 OAC schools
who still have grass. Homecoming will be a high scoring game, given Marietta's peformance thus far.

Regarding the Buckeyes, Saturday was plain terrible, one of the poorest offensive games since John Cooper days! :-[

reality check

Missed every second of the game this weekend.  Spent the entire weekend moving to a new home and still don't have internet (like I even had time to think about following the game while moving to a new residence)...

I am happy that ONU played Mount tough.  I thought they'd play the Raiders tight (relative to the spread lol) and I'm proud of their effort in spite of the fact that a majority of the purple faithful have to qualify the game's final score with whatever justification they need.  You guys got the W.  Just leave it at that.  If you need to see games played in perfect conditions without qualifiers, consider becoming a fan of badminton or something.  I do appreciate the Mount posters that don't need to complain about mud or wind or flying monkeys.  Thanks for just taking the W and moving along.

As for 8-2 and a playoff spot, I don't see that happening.  Musky would need to go 8-2 as well for ONU to even sniff that chance and force a scenario similar to 2005 between Mount/ONU/CAP.  Of course, winning against Mount in 2005 still wasn't enough to get ONU in over CAP.  Maybe they'll be on the other end of that equation this year but I think the chances are very, very slim.

Chicken Hawks?   Warchickens?  What are you - 12?  From the outside looking in, I believe you must be referring to that team in Wisconsin that has bitch-slapped you 3 of the last 4 times you've played.  Sweet retort.  I'm sure MU is proud to list you among one of its alums!!!!
