On the subjects of drop kicks, I heard once that Jim Thorpe dropped kicked a ball thru the uprights from the 50 yard line and then turned and dropped kicked the ball thru the opposite uprights on successive kicks.  I thought this a myth until I met Thorpe's two sons as they visited the pro football hall of fame a  couple of years ago.  They confirmed the story, in fact one of the sons said it was at his football practice and Thorpe was over 50 years old at the time.

Great story.......however, what's the big deal about being "over 50 years old at the time"??

Hey when I came back on campus to get my education degree at 50 I told Larry I still had one year of eligibility left. He smiled, whomped me on the back and said OK, practice is at 3:00. Couldn't find my Lou Groza square toed kicking shoe

Played in an Alunmi game five years ago. I kicked off and two guys protected me to the sideline. Thank God we never scored

Looks like Mount can stay in the North this year. The split looks like West and South.

Who would be the #1 in the East? 9-1 Wesley or a 10-0 Salisbury or Delaware Valley?  I hope Mount can stay in the North, but I don't know if the NCAA will go that route.

(IMO) The West holds the key (again) this year with 3 of the top 5 teams (UWW, UST, Linfield) & all undefeated.  Don't you think the brackets all start there & the NCAA will move one of those out of their region? It wouldn't be the first time the NCAA had to do this. Obviously, UWW would be the one causing a domino effect going eastward & southward. (IMO)

Wesley and Salisbury are South teams, but with some other strong South teams and a chance for the NCAA to save a couple bucks, one or both could go to the East. I will guarantee that the brackets will be staged so that UWW and Mount can only face off at the Stagg

I could see UWW or UST moving to the North and Mount possibly still heading East but you never know what that committee will do.

If Delaware Valley goes 10-0 in the East, not sure if the NCAA would give them the number #1 seed. If they were ranked  higher in the polls then maybe, but the region rankings 1st release on 11-2-11 will provide a real perspective.  Salisbury or Wesley would probably be a high seed in the east and south with MHB.

If the top five "hold serve", I can't see how Mount ISN'T going East.

EAST - UMU
NORTH - UWW
SOUTH - MHB
WEST - UST

Linfield would be a very strong two seed in the West.

Can we really call it "heading East" when Mount Union will likely be a #1 seed and all teams would have to travel through Alliance?  Well, assuming that Mount makes it through the next three weeks unscathed, that is.

I think there's a lot of truth to this possibility, assuming teams win out.  If there's a bottle-neck of teams from the West, then the best way to make room for them all is to have Mount in the East which opens up a slot in the North.   That North slot then goes to probably UWW although someone could try and make an argument for it being St. Thomas and keeping UWW out West.  At any rate, we'll have a clearer picture (well, that's relative considering it is the NCAA afterall!) once next week's regional rankings come out.  Either way, there's still some surprises likely in store in the last few weeks of the regular season.

Kinda tired of whipping on the little sisters of the poor in the East. Sorry Alfred
