BashBacker#16

Skunks,

I called and spoke to Tailgator's the other day.  At the time we were trying to find 1 main spot for Wabash Nation.  The girl was very nice and then I asked; "could you guys handle about 200 people on Friday night?..."  There was a long silence and I realized she was covering the phone and telling the Manager (giggling) what I had asked.  It was pretty funny.  Because I think we will have people split between Canton & Alliance, there won't be nearly that many.  It would be nice if they could block off an area or a bunch of tables.  From my call with them, I don't think they will do that.  Maybe you guys would have more pull.

Thanks for posting the history behind the Little Giants.  Wabash actually had some victories in the early years against teams like Purdue and that contributed to the nickname.

The Sphinx Club also goes way back (very early 1920's) and I have no problem with the striped bibs.  I was honored to be in the Sphinx Club.  Here's a site - http://www3.wabash.edu/orgs/sphinx/

Ok....so has anyone been to this place Vesuvio Brick Oven Pizza?  Do they have wings?  Do they have beer?  (A staple for any get together)   ;D

Also, what are your thoughts about Rey's 62?  I see they have wings & burgers, and heard the place is pretty decent.

I need to make a decision today so we can get the word out to all, including the Wabash faithful making the trip.

Thoughts/comments/suggestions.......you have approximately two hours to convince me one way or the other.

Carry on!   ;)

Sorry havent had a chance to get back to the board. Vusuvio's has wings and beer however i doubt they stay open much past 10:00pm. Rey's 62 has both as well and will be open late with the big screen TV, and should work fine! Chive's "formerly The Bier Haus" is a great location as well.

Been trying to research a place in Alliance and it's slim pickins.  What about Tailgator's Sports Bar & Grill?  We're in Alliance as I think a good number of Bash fans.  The Bierhaus website didn't pull up so Chives may be a good spot.

Tailgator's is a great place however seating is a premium and small. The place is usually packed to the max each night and especially friday nights for the food. Really unlikely you can plan for much of a group get together for the space there.

. . .from a 1953 Chapel Speech (Wabash uses its Chapel as a gathering place for many kinds of events, including speeches to the students and faculty) by Byron K. Trippet, a Wabash alumnus, Rhodes Scholar, and the College's Dean at the time--later he was president of the College for about a decade.  Trippet:  "It was Cayou's [Wabash's coach] first football team in 1904 which won the name Little Giants.  I am told by one who should know that Cayou himself coined the term when he was praising his team for out-fighting their heavier opponents.  An Indianapolis reporter heard him call the team Little Giants.  He liked the term and took it back to Indianapolis with him.  A few days later the INDIANAPOLIS NEWS ran an editorial on the Little Giants and Little Giants it has been ever since. . . .It is an important detail in the history of the college that her teams were once for some years mighty enough to receive the name Little Giants.  The importance lies in the effect the name, once given and adopted, was to exercise year after year, on the minds and on the emotions of Wabash men--students, alumni, and even faculty and trustees."  So, there you have it, and all of us Wabash folks take the unique nickname seriously in athletics and in all other endeavors. Is there a story behind Purple RAIDERS?  Ok, the purple we all get; how about the Raiders part?

Schwami

Speaking of Francis Cayou --- in 1905 Cayou led Wabash to one of its most impressive upsets when it defeated Notre Dame 5-0 at South Bend.  It proved to be ND's only home field loss in 125 games between 1899 and 1928.

Any parallels to 2011 are merely coincidental  8-)
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

Me too.  I can probably get a hall pass for a couple hours Friday night.  Just let us know where.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I'm just glad I'll be at home in FL this weekend so I don't have to see the silly boys running around in striped overalls.

They're different and I don't understand them!  Quick...mock them!

What is with the quick defense mechanisms of many of the Bash fans (at least the ones who are posting on here)?  My goodness, you guys need to lighten up.

Vesuvio's Brick Oven Pizza was suggested by one of the regulars who I have faith in.  He has not responded to these last few postings, so I am fine with either Chives (old Bier Haus where I have major "history"  ;D), or Tailgaters.

Let's just say Tailgaters.......8 PM.

I'll call the place and let them know we are coming, and to try to save us a few tables.  PM or post on here if you are coming.

It will be good to see all my "little internet friends".   8-)

unfortunately, I am "out" for this weekend in Alliance.  I've got too much going on with work to get away.  I would say that I'll be watching the stream from the office on Saturday afternoon, but that horse has been beat to death already.  I hope everyone has a great time on Friday night and ask hscoach for the round of jaegerbombs I would have bought --- he's good for it.  This also means it'll be another week before I have to tell the lady about my "internet fiends friends" from up north.

I'm hoping for a great game but I'm also hoping for a Mount win so I can come up the following weekend.  Sounds like Wabash will be a big-time test for the Mounties.

On a side note:

Has anyone heard from realitycheck??  Wonder how that interview process is going for the Head Coaching gig at his school.

ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Venue Change.........

Reys 62 Bar & Grill

2109 WEST State St., Alliance, OH  44601

www.reys62.com

They know we are coming, and will make sure to accomodate our group.  If they can't fit us all in the dining room (and they will push tables together), they have some big tables in the back where the pool tables are.  I made this decision based upon everyone's description of the size (or lack thereof) of Tailgaters.

8 PM.....be there if you can make it.

Wear your gear to be easily identified.
