It was just a question. And you know, it can and would benefit the men on the field if more support, more volunteers for the school, more recruits, and more alumni dollars flow into the school because of a web cast. Expand the reach and expand the school! Just making one more friend of the university is worth it - because of the potential for time, talent and dollars that can flow in either now or in 30 years.

No offense, but being on ESPN for the Stagg Bowl a mere 14 times brings a whole lot more attention to the school than having it's games on a web feed.  The web feed will only be watched by those people that are already fans of Mount Union or those that are fans of a rival school.  Playing on ESPN gets Mount exposed to the casual fan across the entire country that might be looking for a sporting event to watch, or just simply flipping channels and catch it.  How many people that don't know about Mount would really be exposed to them by a web feed?  Few to none.

Honestly, I would like to see a webcam broadcast to go along with our internet radio broadcast, but maybe LK says "no" simply as a way to piss off the Wabash faithful?   Which is reason enough for me to not have it.

Is it Saturday yet?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Any exposure, no matter how small or big, is good exposure. Some of us doofuses spent Fridays this season watching the Catholic web stream because, well, they always seemed to come back from insane deficits. In fact, Keith Macmillan and I had a running Twitter gag going about it!

You never know what the situation will be in five or 10 years, so you may not have that national platform. But enough about that - I was quite curious if the alumni concentration in Ohio was a factor.

I filed a "Motion to Allow 70's to Attend Tailgate Party" with the Court this afternoon. It was strongly opposed by the Prosecutors Office and the Adult Probation and Parole Department. Adult Mental Health Services also opposed the motion ,as did the Victim's Assistance Program. The Stark County Sex Offender Registration service also opposed the Motion. Despite these strenuous objections, the Court sustained my Motion, and 70's will be allowed to attend.

As the Stark County Probation Services already posted, it is better than allowing him to knock on unlocked doors all over town LOOKING for the party! ;D

I don't care, I'm going to the game, and later will enjoy a network quality replay on Sports Time Ohio. Gladly send off a copy to anyone, but we'll see Sunday if there is any interest. I will not question the Athletic Director.

If you want to do research: How many DIII football programs are on broadcast TV and how many have a Hall of Fame Announcer?Remembering that we are Co-ed, at least 60% of the alumni could care less about football.

Larry and I learned at the feet of Jack Rafield, the cheapest SOB to ever be an athletic director. If it doesn't directly benefit the kids on the field, it's a waste of time and money.

Using a quote from the movie Absence of Malice "We may do as we please and you are powerless to do us harm"

Wabash fans?  Who's coming Friday night?

Sadly, i doubt i will be able to attend Friday night.  Does anyone know if there will be a live stream of the get together available for those outside of Alliance?

I can shoot some video with my phone and upload it to twitter or something. Does that work? :)

Should attending Wabash fans with beards be worried whether they will still have them upon return from buggy land?   :o :-[

My guess is as long as your name isn't Mullett.....you don't have a mullett... and you agree to let Sam sleep with your wife so he can cleanse her sins you'll get to keep your beard.  :o The good news is he is behind bars now and hopefully for a long time. What a whack job he is.

Bring your shovel and don't double park your buggy at the tailgate party, the campus police frown on that! ;)

This was the first time I mentioned it on THIS board, now....and I wasn't asking, per se. I was asking if there was a significant diaspora of Mt. Union alums, instead of them all huddled in the quadrant bordered by I-77, I-75, I-80 and I-70 as well! That's a legit question, and it may bring light to more of an answer other than "LK doesn't want it".

The answer to your question is yes there is a significant diaspora of Mt. Union alums from Florida to D.C. to Texas, Arizona and California. In other words all across the country.  Why would you think there wouldn't be?

How significant? What's the percentage?

In my work in consulting, I've worked at colleges that are good academic schools but their alums tend to stay within 200 miles or so. It's a question I ask when I talk about planning on-campus events vs. having regional or national events. There's no slight intended at all.

It may be a factor in this decision. If a great plurality or even a slight majority of all alums are within a reasonable distance of Mt. Union and / or can reasonably expect to have that cable channel on their system without having to upgrade to tiers that they wouldn't necessarily purchase, then there's more of a reason NOT to have the games live streamed. There won't be as many complaints.

Sorry, I don't have percentages.  If I see someone from the Alumni office when I'm on campus tonight I'll ask.  I know that I have friends from Mount in Eastern Pa., Washington D.C., Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Indiana.  There are Mount Union Alumni Clubs in Florida, North Carolina, New York, Chicago, Washington D.C. and several other states.  There is even a Mount Union Alumni Club in Singapore.

I don't know why there is not a webcast, but I don't think it's due to a lack of Alumni outside of  N.E, and Central Ohio.

Here's your answer:  75% of Mount Alumni live in the state of Ohio, which means they are able to receive STO if they have it on their cable or dish package. (Admittedly a larger percentage than I thought.) I guess the other 25% are just out of luck.

I graduated Mount within the last 10 years. Just went through my Facebook friends just from my graduating class. Counted 13 different states where the kids now reside. Granted 3 of them went back to the state where they came from, and it is a small sample size.... just some more insight.

In the early 1980s, 16% of MUC students came from New Jersey.  I'm not really sure why that was, but we had a dedicated recruiter for the state.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

smedindy

The newer classes do tend to spread out. And schools do go through certain epochs where one state is concentrated. Wabash has a tireless volunteer recruiter in Mississippi, of all places. But when he slows down, then that won't be a market, probably.

Anyway, good to know.

I was able to get STO on my Directv in Minnesota. All you had to do was purchase a sportspac  for less than $10. a month and you could cancel at any time. No long commitments. Don't confuse it with the college game pack they try to get you to buy for a couple hundred bucks. Check it out in your area. :)

Some people are forced to be more frugal with their television choices...alas...

(I do have the sports package on my ATT - Uverse but I don't know if it carries STO. Plus, dishes in FL aren't convenient, especially in apartment complexes.)

I think the point is that there is a difference between being able to watch it as it happens, even if it is on a web broadcast, and being able to watch on a replay at midnight when you already know what happened. But whatever...UMU has the deal they want for whatever reasons they want it. It's their call. I'm looking forward to being back at Mount Union Stadium for a regional final. Should be fun times.
