BashDad,
No single RB has ran for more that 100 yards against Wesley, and further McSweeny IMO is the best QB at the D3 level. He put up those numbers against teams whose defenses had their number 1 priority as "Stop Shane McSweeny." Wesley has used whatever has worked to get the job done in this playoffs. And right now Shane McSweeny is working. OC Chip Knapp and everyone else knows it. Why stop?

Mount hasnt gone up against a team like Wesley believe it or not. Benedictine, Centre, and Wabash arent quite in that 2nd Tier of Division III. Wesley has played tougher competition throughout the playoffs as well. They took on Linfield, who they have never seen before and had zero common opponents, that makes it tougher for both teams to get a feel of each other, but Wesley did figure it out in the 2nd half. Linfield also threw the ball 40 some times, which makes it a little easier to pick up yards. Dont forget that they made Linfield 1 dimensional. Then they played UMHB, who they are very familiar with, so it kind of makes sense that the game played out the way it did. But in the end, all that matters is the W. So to say that the game wont be close might not be entirely correct. Wesley has found different ways to win all season. Thats what it will come down to on game day. Who can find the way to win. It doesnt matter what the stats are.

Why not tell us how you really feel about our chances??  You are correct that our D has given up too many yards in the last two weeks; however they have been able to come up with big stops whenever we've needed them so they haven't been as bad as the numbers look. As for McSweeny, yes, as he goes so shall we.  And I'm fine with that as he has proven to be a consistent leader week after week.  He's been able to spread the ball to several different receivers, all quite good though none unbeatable.  Same thing for handing the ball off to our backs. That's what's different about this year's team - lots of different players have the ability to step up at any given time, no superstar attitudes to be found. Do I expect anything to be easy against MU's D?  Certainly not but they can be beaten - they must be respected, but not feared.

The Akron U job is merely a stepping stone type of job. Unfortunately, its for stepping DOWN as a coach. :-[ Also why the hate for Walsh University?  They are going places faster than Akron U is. Walshs head coach is also a former Head Coach at Akron U. Do you think he really would go back there again? Nope!

Is the UWW game on the net or TV? If so where so?

Good Luck to all 4 teams.

Both are on ESPN3 as a doubleheader.

It seems most are in agreement that McSweeny is the key.  I don't wish injury on anybody and I truly hope both teams can play the entire game at full strength.  That said, I've always worried for a team that is so reliant on one player, especially at QB.  If he were to get nicked up, who is his backup?  Has the backup played this year?  Does he have a similar style to McSweeny?

If Shane gets injured I'd say we're SOL.  Back-ups have limited experience, good potential for the future but not ready for this game.  Callahan throws a beautiful ball and will be fun to watch, just not yet.  I think Shane will have to be missing a body part to be taken out of this game.  Kid is tough as nails.

Right. Except now they're facing a team who can do it, a team whose defense isn't ranked 68th (Mary Hardin Baylor) or 72nd (Linfield).   MHB gave up 500 yards to .500 East Texas Baptist. Linfield gave up 422 to 4-6 Whitworth. Mount Union? They're ranked first. The best anyone has done against them is 240 yards. So. Nyah Nyah.

No, they haven't. They've relied squarely on Shane McSweeny.

Oh, it doesn't? Well, okay, I'm convinced, then. Wolverine's win!

Snort.

Does anyone else find it interesting that Mount's biggest supporter is a Wabash guy?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Was thinking the same thing!  Guess MU must be the best ever to have taken down Wabash....

HScoach,

I believe there is a great amount of mutual respect among the Mount and Wabash fans, in addition to
the coaching linkage. The Wabash supporters are great people, so I am not surprized and BashDad
has great insight! :)

Please. I'm not "Mount's biggest supporter." I'm also not just a "Wabash guy." I can take my ball and go home if you'd prefer it, but from where I'm sitting the argument for why Wesley keeps this game close--or wins--is riddled with weak spots. Most of this board is taken up with the usual non-analysis shrugging of "I guess it'll be a good'n!" and that **** is boring. Sue me.

Great contribution. If you think my argument sucks, then refute it. Don't play a card any 12th grader can pull out of their pocket.

LOL, I was thinking exactly the same thing!   ;D  With all due respect to Wesley, they have not played a team like Mount this year, especially on the defensive side of the ball.   Good luck to both teams!
