I forgot to mention the multiple (10....12?) MISSED TACKLES yesterday by Mount's usually ferocious, and steady defense.  Mount's biggest impact defensive player was abused at times while trying to tackle the QB, and a few of the receivers after a bubble screen.  That is the most vulnerable I have seen #21 in two years.

After thinking about it, I will give the Wesley offensive players as much credit as I will criticize Mount's defensive players.  I think Wesley had a "fast" that Mount hadn't experienced as of yet this year.

skunks, I would agree that both teams missed some tackles, but there were several other plays that if the Mount defender misses the tackle, it may have been 6 for Wesley.  Missed tackles always happen and sometimes you have to give credit to the offensive player.  McSweeney abused many a tackler this year and Mount's db's are on the small side so that did not surprise me.  He did the same thing to the Linfield AA d back.  There are not many teams that experience the "fast" that Wesley brings to the field.

A question for you Mount guys.  Do Piloto's passes usually look like they are in the air forever, or was that just yesterday.  Some of the passes looked almost to be in slow motion.  He is very accurate.  His int's yesterday were, if I recall correctly, all underthrown, does he struggle with the longer passes?

Not to mention the lack of holding calls--also the fact that Wesley was offsides on at least two of the kick offs.  That might have had some influence on our guys being "man handled"

theaprof, now we are certainly not going to complain about lack of holding calls.  There seemed to be plenty of that going on by the Mount O line too.  For once this year, I really have no issue with the officiating.

Wesley had 496 yds. of offense vs UMU, their second best of the sason.   Save for Linfield giving up 497 yds. in their playoff game.  This is a sign of major concern.  The defense line must do what it has not  done the last 2 yrs. at the stagg and yesterday, play up to being the best "D" in Div. 3.  We have to play our best game of the year this Friday on both Off. and DEf.  I agree with others, Mount is 12- 14 pts. under dogs.  This game is for many goals.  11 th Championship, stop their overall win streak, keep coppage from his past sucesses, keep them from winning 3 in a row at the stagg, and most important, wipe  that smile off their faces!!!!!  We have been in this situation before,  it makes the win so much sweeter.  You Mount fans know them well.  GO Raiders!!

Good, God. Though AO on the Around The Nation board asked the same thing (and he's NOT a noob):

This is what I said to him.

"...they fit, as a school and as an athletics program as a whole, in the OAC. That is the key. Unlike D-1 (so it seems), conferences are made by schools desiring similar company, geographically and / or in mission."

"Why would they want to? They are D-3 in every way, shape and form.

Why would D-3 encourage them to? They are D-3 in every way, shape and form.

The MVC is in no way a fit for Mt. Union, in ANY aspect. I can't see any congruence between Youngstown State, Western Illinois, and Mt. Union. Not in mission, vision, student bodies or any other aspect.

This isn't D-1...this is D-3. This is OURS! And Mt. Union is like Hiram is like Linfield is like Macalester is."

I liked your answer on the Around the Nation Board and like it here as well.  Care to add it to the WIAC Board?

Go ahead!

Yesterday was only the 2nd Mount game that I saw this year(both on Tape ,not live) and I saw Wesley 4 times live.Wesley played well yesterday, and used all of their abilities on O.Their d line was w/out the best player(Mayes), but still made plays. Wesleys reciever speed is special, and it showed saturday. The point is Wesley did not play anything but their normal game on offense and they were able to move the ball.Dropped passes are part of the game, and it hurt them.

Mount played its game too, making turnovers really hurt !!a long standing happening. The O was enough too win, but needs to be more consistent. the shovel(shuffle)pass was a key play,,maybe picked up from watching the Linfield- Wesley game . It worked Vs Wesley then also. It seemed like a lot more throws to Murray ,,more than normal, but all rec. played well

It was a game that showed both teams belonged,,and Mount found a way to win !!I like both teams and will continue  to be a split fan,,,and now after next weekend,, I'll just have to wait for SKI season!!!!!

@d3jason

Congrats to Mount Union. You were gracious hosts as always. Sorry I missed many of you on Friday night but the Christmas Ale got me again on Friday night in Canton. Good Luck Friday and get number11!

But to think that Wesley's defense is going to allow MU to run at will is simply unrealistic.

We'll see. Betcha five bucks.

No, Piloto has a strong arm...if I remember correctly the second pick was caused by him getting hit when he threw the ball.

McSweeney is the best QB I've watched since Micheli. I sit in the open stands and after the last INT I watched McSweeney walk to the bench and he sat there alone. And when the final whistle blew he still sat there for a few minutes alone and you could sense the feeling of finality and the "I'd give up all my accomplishments this year to play one more game."

Nah. Piloto ended up playing and Murray still ran for 125. I call that a push.

MUC nation -

Good look in your Stagg Bowl.

I saw a clip featuring the team on ESPN last night - while most of the time I do root for the teams you guys face, that kind of exposure would not be possible had it not been for the track record of success that MUC has built over the years and the rest of D3 should appreciate that in my opinion.

Looking forward to seeing another good game between you and UWW.

I dont think HC coach was trying to slight WWW, Wesley did have Stagg Bowl talent and how good are they?  They nearly overcame the turnovers to get to the Stagg, that's how good. Mc Sweeney was the best QB I have seen against Mount and I have seen 30 years worth of Raider games.  Will Blanchard be better? Quite possibly, but that will be seen.  Personally, Coppage is the real fear for me, because he can turn nothing into six anytime he touches the ball, so no lead is safe. The other thing that I fear next week is that WWW seems a fast starter and Mount is quite the opposite. That being the case, our offense has been somewhat inconsistent and getting behind could be the kiss of death.
By the way my perspective on the dropped fourth down pass, the receiver came out of his out cut and the ball was on him. Hit him in the chest and bounced away before he could even react.

I also seem to remember a Mount team, which its fans were speculating might be the school's "best ever," losing in the Stagg by 18. I'm guessing hscoach is still in denial about that one.
