You don't have to apologize for that - it is not selfish. Obviously, you are proud of your son and happy for him that he was selected for those honors as any parent would be - nothing wrong with that...and especially in how your son "endeavored to persevere" (if I may use that line from a famous movie in all seriousness).  Anyway, congratulations to your son (and you).

When you consider the basics, namely blocking and tackling, the best team won. Great effort by the defenses. Both coaches are great tacticians, too bad they dont get points on the scoreboard for that. Heres hoping that whatever ails Seamans knee get taken care of over the break and he gets back to old form fast. Piloto is a gamer but I dont believe that you can coach his shortcommings out of him anytime soon. UWWs defense was too fast for our Oline to block effectively. Murray had little wiggle room to work with. Anybody know why Skilliter was an afterthought these playoffs? His footspeed is impressive, why not gameplan for it?  Im not surprised at the outcome...just the closeness of the final score. If we kick better and give UWW a longer field to work with do we end up in overtime to decide a winner? Mathie had a rough playoffs if you ask me. Maybe its a confidence thing? Turnovers are a DREADFUL thing to behold. :-[

The final Pick-Em results are posted.  B.W. Jacket was one of a number of folks who excelled at the bonus picks and that pulled him into a first place tie with gobash83.

Thanks to all who played this year.  Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

And to all my friends here, have a safe and happy holidays!

For those who might be interested, DII Wayne State of the GLIAC is not doing well right now in the Div II championship game against Pittsburg State (KS).  Turnovers have hurt them.  It is only 27-14, however, one more score by Pitt St. and I think the game is essentially over.  Unless they have a huge "miraculous" turnaround in how they're playing, it will (IMO) be very difficult for Wayne State to come back from that kind of deficit.  I hope they can do it, however, but...

just returned from Salem.  Good game by both teams, but seemed to be very conservative on offense.  I expected Mount to struggle scoring and they did.  Mount's D really came up big and shut down UWW.  The fumble is a gift TD, without that Mount may have won the game.  Congrats on a good season and hopefully we will see you again next year.

not sure about all the discussion about the weather since the rain stopped about 30 - 45 minutes before gametime and only rained a couple of times during the second half.  It had no effect on the game.

Congratulations Mount Union.  It was a great game and your guys gave it their best effort.  Your fourth quarter rally proved that there was no quit in your team.  Best wishes for the future, let's do it again next year.

Congrats MUC, you guys played an awesome game. Almost thought you guys were going to pull the upset (first time I had to say that for ya), but congrats to the seniors, I wish you guys great success in your future endeavors. Good Luck next year.

Thanks, I appreciate that very much !

What a game!  Congrats to the Raiders, their coaching staff, program and fans!  A defensive battle to the finish.  A shame any team had to lose that game!  Clearly the two best teams in D3 played last night and the winner is a TRUE Champion!  D-3 football, it doesn't get any better! Congrats again to your outstanding team.

"They're a very good defense, as they showed tonight," said Piloto. "They are very fast and they make you alter your feet and do some things that you're not used to doing."    This means the Off. line had some issues that need to be addressed next year.  Watch the replay and focus on just  that and you will see what the problems were.  The Mount off. was the best offense for UWW.  The Mount def.  was great, loved it.  And as always Mount was in it to the very end with a chance to win, that is why I llove this program!!!!  Looking forward to getting numer 11 next year.

Thinking about the game and the season on the way home I arrived at the same opinion.  Three major misques by a QB under pressure and the inability to establish a running game adds up to O Line problems IMHO.

Happy Holidays to all!

Thanks to the Mount D for one of the best defensive seasons I've ever witnessed. Last night's effort was better than great against an offense that was hard to stop all year.

From the beginning of the year I was a Piloto fan...thought he had the qualities to guide us to a title. Obviously there's work to be done on offense to get that elusive #11.

All told it was another great season...many great plays on both sides of the ball. And to be able to attend 10 home games is a fans' dream come true. Thanks to all who made that possible.

Everyone have a safe and fun off season. To those in Section 13, see ya next September!!

Heard some interesting info regarding the Purple Raiders.  Expect the unexpected.

Now that the game is completed, can you divulge your interesting info? What was the unexpected? I didn't watch the game because I don't have ESPN here, but listening to Pat and Keith, there didn't appear to be any great surprises. Care to share?

Time for my Annual Review of the Two Deep Stagg Bowl Depth Chart for Mount Union:

Offense 1st Team:
2 Seniors - RG Ekkens, WR Brown
9 Juniors - WR Collins, WR Moore, LT Tate, LG Mattox, C Knisely, RT Forbus, QB Piloto, FB Simon, HB Murray

Offense 2nd Team:
2 Seniors - C Ekkens, FB Ryder
6 Juniors - WR Denton, WR Stewart, WR Mathie, RT Modrak, QB Seaman, HB Skilliter
2 Sophomores - LG Goble, RG Winn
1 Freshman - LT Goff

Defense 1st Team:
5 Seniors - DE Favazzo, LB Smith, LB Carbonell, FS Ferrara, CB Jordan
5 Juniors - CB Scott, SS Driskill, S Nicholls, DE Dieuseul, DT Orteca
1 Sophomore - DT Fechko

Defense 2nd Team:
2 Seniors - FS West, CB, Alwardt
5 Juniors - SS Riley, S Briggs, DT Modrak, LB Teague, LB Allen
2 Sophomores - CB  Woodard, DE Thomas
2 Freshman - DE Rosalva, DE Mahoney

More losses on Defense (Both starting LBs, 1st and 2nd Team FS, and 1st and 2nd Team CB) than Offense (Starting RG (and backup C) Ekkens and WR Brown).  If Piloto can eliminate mistakes and/or Seaman stay healthy for the entire year, it looks like the Offense will be stacked next year.

Defense will still have Scott, Driskill, Dieseul returning for Senior Leadership, and I'm sure the rest will be ready to step up make their own mark for the Raiders.

I don't know if any of the Seniors have eligibility left, but looks like another reloading year.  The Future is Bright!
