formerd3db,

Within the OAC, there is significant time spent by the coaching staff, expecially in areas where they
are competing D2 level schools. As we all know most people just hear about the D1 schools! :)

That seems to be the case now here in Michigan as well.  They have to as you well know and that also obviously makes it that much tougher to recruit for their particular DIII school in the overall process (i.e. not just the actual attempt to recruit students for one's own school but also the added competition of the DII schools aside from one's DIII league and outside DIII counterparts).

excellent point. I think that is true pretty much everywhere there are several schools in an area, all competing for the same recruits.

Really great posts...and most of them completely spot on.  I have one studying and playing right now in the miaa and another one completely immersed in the process, trying to decide where he will study and attempt to play the next four years.  One of the schools is an OAC conference (one in NCAC and the MIAA).  I've been very impressed with the tours in Ohio and the attention displayed by the coaches and their staffs.

Great options.  Good stuff!

Those tours to the various schools in the various 3-4 state region were/are always great.  Best wishes to you and your other son as you go through the process and he then eventually makes his decision.  Also, while each one has to make their own decision based on what is best for them, it is always great to have a brother/brother possibility on the same team and/or in the same league.  Believe me, I know.  :)

Thanks, formerd3db.  Son #1 ended up where he is because of a dynamic not really associated with football.  Let's just say he followed a friend.   ;)  With that said, it's been a wonderful experience both with school and on the field (the bonus).  Son #2 has taken a little different approach...having applied, been accepted and toured about 5 or 6 schools.  While the possibility of the two brothers playing together is pretty cool, the reality is it would really only be a one year experience.  It's still a possibility, but #2 has really become impressed with a couple of Ohio schools.

The reality is, based on the three he is down to, he really can't make a poor choice.  He just needs to make the one that is most comfortable for him.  Mom and Dad will probably have the same amount of influence that we had with #1....which was minimal.   :-\.  We now are planning meals of ramen noodles and rice and beans for the next few years.  That and planning on burning some gas in the car.  Can't wait until fall!   8-)

The process continues to be a great experience, especially for the boy.  Each school brings a different look and our experience so far with all of them has been really good.  We have really enjoyed watching D3 football and loolk forward to more of it.  Great fun!

Actually....he sent his stuff that way.  Unfortunately...never heard back.  :o

I'm sure you guys are aware of all the 'tools' available for kids to create cool stuff.  He created a little 'marketing piece' that included a link to hudl, etc. and sent it off to about 10 schools, including MU.  B-W and Wittenberg took some notice and have stayed with him pretty diligently.

Sounds like your son #2 can't go wrong.  While it would obviously be a wonderful thing and a once-in-a-lifetime memory for you and your wife and both your sons if they were on the same team even if only for one year, I'm sure son#2 will make the best choice for himself.  If he does end up at one of the other schools, then you and your wife will certainly have an interesting year as you will have to temporarily split up and each alternate going to each of their games every week i.e. you to Alma and her to "the other college" one week, then switching it around the next week and so on through out the season - just like my own parents did "many moons ago". :)  Anyway, again best wishes to your son and keep us posted on what he eventually decides.

Mount received a pretty good "commitment" from a LB today.  Matt Davis from Orrvile, had a D1 scholarship offer from Buffalo after his jr season, but missed his entire senior season after tearing his ACL in a preseason scrimmage.  If he can come back from the injury, Mount might have a steal

I don't ned hear anyone comp[laining about the potential to pay two private school tuitions.  I have three going right now (down to two next year).  When I make the last quarter payment for the older one this year I am going celebrate by buying a six pack of something with a national name instead of the cheap stuff.  When the final two finish in a couple of years I might actually go out and buy a car that has less than 200,000 miles on it.

Laughing...   Sorry.  Didn't mean to sound whiny.  I will have one more coming up after these two.  And while I drive a vehicle with 231K miles....I still drink good rum and good tequila.  There are some things you just can't compromise on.   ;D

Joelmama,

You and your wife deserve more than a six-pack, but as great parents, you can take comfort that you have done all that was possible to give your children the educations they will need to become great parents themselves someday! Congrats!  :)
