reality check

From the Dayton Daily News:

• Logan Shell (Brookville) has signed to play football at Ohio Northern. The 6-4, 270-pound two-way lineman was a big reason why the Blue Devils went 7-3 last season.

Congrats to Kyle Miller - hope he makes the roster (should have made in Jacksonville). Saw a thing on Pierre (bleacherreport). I don't know who Gordie Gold (aside from the one responible for writing the piece) but what an idiot. He states that "Garcon is getting paid almost double what Moss is paid, yet you could easily make the argument that Moss is the better wide receiver. Over the past three seasons, Garcon has had 184 receptions, 2,496 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. In that same span, Moss has had 209 receptions, 2,601 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns."

I mean with the stats being equal (PG avgs 13.6yd/rec and Moss is at 12.4)- how can one easily make any argument other than PG has been as good as Moss AND is 5 years younger? This is the kind of crap that makes me wonder (sometimes aloud) how in god's name a jackwagon can get hired using this type of logic? BTW it is Santana Moss - not Randy  ;D

This is why statistics are for losers.....at some point in time, two lines cross to form an axis.....one line is going up (Garcon), and the other is going down (Moss).

I don't know about them being for losers...but they have to at least be interpreted correctly.

"losers" was probably too strong a term.  However, we have a tendency to resort to statistics when we are on the losing side...."we had less turnovers, we had more rushing yards, time of possession, etc."

Passing this along...

Former ONU men's basketball coach Joe Campoli could really use the prayers of anyone who is willing to offer them up.  He's in the hospital and whatever it is it's serious.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.  Coach Campoli was a great coach/person at ONU and did great things in his 30 years at Northern.

I'm not normally one to post things like this, but the Head Baseball Coach at our school is 31 Years old and not in good shape.  He has had some Heart issues his whole liife and last summer collapsed on the field and had to have a pacemaker installed.  Last fall he was back out on the field coaching and in the classroom teaching Chemistry.  At the beginning of Spring Baseball he was having some more health issues and he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer than is now rapidly spreading throughout his body.

A couple of his students (girls, not baseball players) wrote an essay about his struggles and now the team is a finalist to win new Uniforms from Allan's Sporting Goods.

If you can, please vote for the team!  You can vote daily for another week or so, and it it very easy to do if you have a Facebook account.
