Just caught the end of the ONU/NC Wesleyan game and the Polar Bears dropped it 16-13 in OT.  Bears threw a pick on their OT possession and NCWesleyan connected on about a 38 yarder for the win.  Not a good start in spite of some decent numbers for the Bears statistically.

Yuck.   Not a good way to start the season for ONU.   The Bears have been an odd team to figure out.  They've been remarkably average under Dean Paul with very little talent at the skill positions.  Not what I expected at all.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Semen hurt?

Seaman is in now with Prendergast, Mathie, etc.  Looks like he's now the back up and Burke is the starter.

Except for 2005, the P Bears never fail to disappoint.

I was reading the OWU football preview and I was surprised to see a transfer from Hiedi:

QuoteSophomore Joey Reinhardt (Wheelersburg), a transfer from Heidelberg, should take over at center.

I do not know how historically Hiedi has been with kids transferring out, but I know this is the second this year.

Maybe he was too deep on the depth chart, or the school was not the right fit. Wonder if Watts recruited him when he was B-W.

Knee jerk reactions...

Not shocked to see Burke start.  I was surprised that he didn't even split snaps with Seaman though.  I like what I think that means...LK thinks Burke can be a championship QB.  16-26, 243 yds, TD, INT.  And 51 yds on 8 rushes as a bonus.  Solid start.

The D was better than I expected.  I knew they'd be good, but I figured FC would move the ball some and probably end up with 14-17 points.  After that first drive when FC converted the 4th and short the D didn't allow a first down on 9 of the next 10 possessions.  That's the ball game right there.

Nice coming out party for Chris Denton.  2 punt return TD's and 89 yds receiving.  There's no Garcon/Shorts on this team, but boy do they seem deep at WR.  Collins, Denton, Moore...I forgot about Wilkinson because he was injured...and Stewart played really well at TE too.  Lot's of quality options for the young QB.

1.5 sacks from DE Ted Rosalvo.  I have a feeling we'll be seeing him in the backfield quite a bit.

Nice job today by Skilliter.  Played good D and also spelled Lattimore at RB.  I couldn't tell how much he played on D because it sounded like Chambers and J. Scott were also playing CB with I. Scott at various points.

Overall it was a quality road win.  Good way to start a season.  Anxious to hear from anyone there in person.

736 yards passing? Where were the db's?  :o

Can't wait to see Burke in 2 weeks...sounded like he was very solid.

Dr. Acula,

Good game assessment! :)

I did not attend the game, but listened to the broadcast.

A few thoughts:

1. Kevin Burke will be the starter going forward (barring an injury). He had a great camp
and Coach Kehres will do whatever it takes to bring home a title. K. Burke lead
a state championship at Lakewood St. Ed's and would have gone to D1 if not for his
height. As a soph. he will just get better.

2. Unlike prior years, this year's O line is much larger and will be more physical.
Bringing some DL talent to the OL will be a huge factor.

3. The Raiders will be fine at RB. Lattimore showed the
break-a-way threat and Skiliter is solid like last year.

4. Both Collins and Denton will be a good tandem at WR and Denton has raised the
return game to a where it was a few years back. What a performance!

5. The defense picked up where it left off from last year. Dieusel to LB will be great as
    the season progresses.

6. The best first game performance in a few years, but have to work on the penalties.

Great performances by John Carroll and Heidelberg. We knew that Coach Hallet
would have a good team again this year, but could JCU be the surprize team this year? :-\

Cap down 30-3 to witt, about a minute until halftime.  I'm out, can't take any more.  Gonna be a long year in Bexley.

P.S. this is why I don't post on these boards anymore.  I am so disgusted with the state of Capital football right now, I can't stand to watch/ listen to it, so I have nothing to add.  It's awful.  Witt will be OK and might even be a playoff team, but Cap doesn't even look like they belong on the same field.

JK, good to see you posting...even if it may be short lived.

I've been watching the live stats for Cap.  The thing that baffles me is the D.  I figured they'd struggle on O.  Their skill guys aren't great.  But their D is getting marched up and down on by an unproven offense replacing all their playmakers.  Very disheartening.

Thanks.  Couldn't agree more.  The D had a lot of returners, so you would think they would have been a lot better.  To their credit, there was a punt block for a TD and a couple of short fields because Cap can't cover kicks, but there was more than one occasion that Witt's wideouts were running free through the Cap secondary for TD's or big plays.

Silver lining is that it looks like there are quite a few newcomers on the roster overall.  Looks like there are about 110 to 120 total on the team this year.  Hopefully some of them can play (I think the starting RB is going to be a beast eventually), or at the very least develop into servicable OAC players to provide some depth going forward.

I'd be happy with 5-5 again this year, but I'm not gonna bet on it.  I'll start paying more attention when they start looking like an upper echelon OAC team again.

Looks like LK and the troops have gotten a fine start to the 2012 campaign!  Here's hoping that you'all have a great season.  I look forward to seeing you later in the year. As always . . .

Results from the Week #1 OAC Pick-em's are posted.  Congrats to mtfan for earning that early top spot.

Spreads for Week # 2 will come out Monday night.

If you forgot to get in this week, you aren't too far behind.  A lot of points to be had this season, particularly when the conference season starts.   Play On!

4 - 5 start for the OAC.  BW should make it 5 - 5 next week.  Not as impressive as we might like.
