Interesting quote in the Canton Rep's interview with Dymonte Thomas, the Michigan bound S/RB from Marlington:

WHO'S THE TOUGHEST GUY YOU'VE PLAYED AGAINST:   "Drew Prendergast. He was so fast and quick for his size. He was hard to bring down."

Hopefully Drew can fully recover from knee surgery and return to his previous level.  He'll be a playmaker if he does.

A while back there was a headline about Mount loses two key pieces...anyone believe that now? I didn't then and still don't. LK found his QB he was looking for (we all know now that Seaman and/or Piloto was not the answer...LK did his best with what he had) and now it's a matter of time for him to find his #1 RB. The wide receivers are just getting started and can anyone cover them?. And of course the "D" is so quick to the ball...VK does a great job of preparing his players. This could be a very fun year people!!

I'm trying to remember the last season that wouldn't have been fun for a Mount follower!

1977 - 4 wins, 5 losses

Ugh, I had almost forgotten about that year.

Quick thoughts on this week's (not so great) other match ups:

Cap @ ONU:  This is a clash of struggling offenses.  Of course that probably means a shoot out will ensue because that's how it works it seems.  Cap is going to have to run the ball.  Freshman Bo Hardy is 2nd in the OAC with 289 yds rushing through 2 games.  Kremchek has struggled throwing the ball early so it'll be interesting to see what ONU's D can do.  And after looking awful against Witt the Cap D rebounded nicely against Etta last week totally shutting down Fulton and the passing game.

Berg @ Wilm:  Despite Wilm being a "hornet's nest" this is pretty much name your score for Coach Hallett and the boys.  Cartel Brooks will almost certainly maintain his #1 spot on the conference rushing leaders list this weekend.  Of course, this probably means he needs to run for 100+ in the first half.  Sounds doable.  So Berg will be 3-0 with their avg. score being something like 45-3.  Man, that's still weird to me.

BW @ Musky:  O'Rourke has looked pretty good thus far.  Lohr is Lohr.  Musky is going to have trouble covering Holt et al based on what I witnessed in that UMU game.  And the Musky O vs. the BW D isn't much better for the Fish.  BW should coast.

JCU @ Ott:  I'm still not sure what to think of either of these teams.  JCU definitely has exceeded my expectations, but then again shouldn't they play BW tough in that game regardless?  I don't feel like that was a big surprise.  Ott it's just hard to know because they haven't really played anyone the first 2 games.  This will tell us more.  If I was a betting man I'd take JCU +3.5 and run.  I think the Streaks win in a close game.

My freshman year. Wasn't a lot of fun going to games in my time there. Used to joke that unlike Woody Hayes's 3 yards and a cloud of dust, we had 2 yards and a cloud of dust for an offense.

As a die hard OSU fan and I attended there for a short period I always wondered what was so good about "three yards and a cloud of dust".......seems to me that left you at fourth and one and having to punt :'(?

Dr. Acula,

Agree, but I wonder who is weaker this year Wilmington or Muskingum? Heidelberg will win big
again, but they have yet to be tested!

Sitting here at lunch killing time on the net and like any true blooded Mount fan, I'm looking way forward in the schedule.  My crystal ball says this is going to be great end to the OAC season.  Heidelberg should be easily favored in every game between now and their Mount trip in Week 8.  And BW should be easily favored in every game between now and Week 9 when Mount heads to Berea.  So assuming those teams play up to their potential, we could be facing undefeated and ranked OAC opponents in both Weeks 8 and 9, with a good JCU team waiting for us in Week 10.  That's the way to prepare for the 2nd season.

And assuming Hberg takes care of business in week 9 against JCU, their home game against BW will be for a trip to the playoffs.  That would be a HUGE game for Mike Hallett and the Hberg team.

Very much looking forward to this season.

I agree 100% on 'Berg, they should be undefeated when they come to Alliance at the end of October.  I wonder how high a 7-0 'Berg team could be ranked, top 10?  BW will probably be BW and lose to someone they have no business losing to.  An OAC with a couple good teams other than Mount is a nice change of pace, if only one of those central OH teams could get their act together.

And while we are looking forward through the season, I'll make a couple of predictions about DIII's hottest story now:
1)  UWW will lose a WIAC game this year
2) Buff State will not make the playoffs and won't sniff the top 25 at season's end

Certainly very possible. Buff State has a crazy schedule in that league.

Good lord....BW down 6-3 to Musky at half.  The Jackets have just north of 100 yds of offense against that Fish D.  They couldn't possibly "pull a BW" (as Suit said) this early could they?

ONU is up 14-0 on Cap in the 2nd.  As I suspected the back up QB (Humphrey) started over Rue this week.  The Bears O looked so bad Paul almost HAD to shake it up this week.

Berg is cruising up 28-0 in the 2nd.  Brooks has 128 yds and 2 scores already.

JCU and Ott are tied 7-7 late in the 2nd.  Biggest news there is no Myers for JCU.  Locke has played the entire game at QB.  Not sure what's up there.

Tate Humphrey is a local kid (local to me).  Went to HS about 3 miles from my house.  I know he bounced around D2 for a couple of years before arriving at ONU.  Great Kid, ran the spread as QB in High School
