Can we please move the conversation to the HUGE game Saturday against Capital?   How in the world in the Raider defense going to slow down Rocky Pentello and that great Cap passing game?
........
What?  He graduated?  Seriously?
........
I thought he had tenure and could stay as long as he wanted?
........
Players don't get tenure?  Never mind.

HSCoach,

I enjoyed Rocky Pentello against the Raiders. IMHO, He was one of the best of the OAC for at least 6-7 years while at Capital. I remember his first game against the Raiders at Mount, he showed early that he had potential. It is too bad Cap has not anything like him since! :)

I went ahead and fixed your typo for you. No hard feelings...

No, no no I clearly remember  it was 1981 and he was facing Ed Warriner as the MUC QB.

Ric

If there is anyone left at Capital that cares about football they have to be so tired of the Pentello jokes.

Anyway, I can still vividly remember my first Mount Union game in 1973 and someone near me pointed out Rocky on the sidelines as the "great quarterback recruit from near Columbus we hope to land for next year."

Desertraider

I think the answer to that question Ric is - no. Besides Cap fans are getting excited about the new 29year old freshman recruit named Rock Pentell also from  the near Columbus area. They say he reminds them an awful lot of Rocky - same height, weight, physical characteristics, looks....hmmmm.

Big OAC game this weekend, who does everyone like Heidelberg or Otterbein, and why? :-\

Simply because I know nothing of Otterbein right now and what I remember of them from '11 was just plain bad.  Other than Fairchild, who would look really good in purple, I don't remember a single Otter player that stood out to me.  Whereas you could see the offensive potential with Heidelberg last year and '12 seems to be building quite well.  Seriously doubt that Heidi will be able to stop anyone of note, but if there is anyone in the OAC that could score some points on Mount it sure looks to be them.

And besides, I'm really hoping Hallett brings an 7-0 team to Alliance on October 27th.  That will be a real fun one.  Only chance we have at a big regular season game since BW pulled a BW.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I think Berg wins that one too.  I gave Ott credit for the BW win, but then BW continues to prove they're not very good.  Berg hasn't beaten anyone good yet, but they've blown everyone out.  What more can they do than that?  It's just how their schedule worked out.  This will be a good test for both teams to see who's for real.  I think Berg wins something like 35-21.

Forget Pentello....at this point in Bexley they might be trying to see if Marty Assmann has a 6th year.  What's going on at QB there this year?  They had a LB converted to QB playing against ONU.  Then that poor kid throws picks the first 2 possessions against Berg and gets relieved by the previously benched starter.  Both of them have passer efficiency ratings hovering around 70.  To put that in perspective I think there's only been 1 starting QB finish below 100 rating in the last decade in the conf.

It's quite simply rough, rough times at Cap right now.  After back to back 5-5 seasons it certainly appears Stanford has the Crusaders heading the wrong direction and the Jim Collins era is fading out of sight at a breakneck pace.  They're going to be 1-5 after what will undoubtedly be an ugly beating taken Saturday in Alliance.  This is going to be their worst season since 2000 (3-7) and I don't think a 3rd win is a guarantee.  They'll beat Wilm, but Musky is no pushover for them.  The Fish competed with BW, Ott and Waynesburg (6-0).  That game is a toss up.  Just sucks to see the great progress made earlier this decade p!ssed away already.

Question for Pat or anyone in the know.

When was the last time a team other than Mount or Whitewater was ranked #1 in the polls.

I am thinking it was Linfield in 2005 before they lost to Whitewater. ? ???

You'd be right. The final regular-season poll in 2005 had Linfield No. 1, but the end-of-year poll had Mount, of course, after the Stagg Bowl.

Over the years, Wesley and UMHB have gotten first-place votes, but none have come close to replacing either UMU or UWW at the top.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.
