Section 13,
I played that day against MHB, let me first start by answering your questions... I don't think it was any big half time adjustment by MHB (give their coaches credit they beat us), did we as players think we had won it all? Not even close, one thing Coach Kerhes teaches you is to respect every opponent and all the time. As an offensive player never once did I or our team mates think it was Coach Monty or the defensives fault. We won as a team and we lost as a team. BY no means did LK go conservative with the offense.

I may get blasted for my beliefs, but here goes. First things first, when you don't perform, look in the mirror. Offensively we struggled the entire third quarter. You can't win big games like that. At one point I personally snapped the ball on the wrong count and hit a receiver who was in motion, the ball bounced past the O-line and the defense recovered, that was a critical moment to make a mistake. I remember an interception and a TD catch that MHB players made that the ball bounced off of Mount players into the hands of a MHB player laying on the ground. MHB didn't beat us by luck, they beat us on the field. For 55 straight games before that the ball bounced our way, on that day it didn't, we didn't' get many breaks, and we shot ourselves in the foot. As a group of players we were heart broken, we felt as though we had let the program, the school, and the purple raiders of the past down. At the same time when I look back at it, that group over achieved. we graduated a lot of starters from the year before, for a mount team we were very undersized, but we did what all Mount teams had done, we worked hard and we played as a team. That day we just didn't come out on top. When we get together we still don't like to talk about it. It hurts, and some of us left the field that day feeling like many Purple Raiders before hadn't felt, like we had let Coach Kerhes and our teammates down.

end of overlook, well spelled out for those of us who were not involved in the game.  losses are always tough.  +1 for the explanation, a very honest one at that.  very classy accepting failure without pointing fingers, something tells me you are probably doing well in life.

End of overlook and I go back to his first days at MUC--he has always been a classy individual who took responsibility for his successes and his failures. And he is man enough to admit that he likes Glee!  He was/is one the most undersized centers we have had in the modern era and he played with the kind of heart that got him the starting position despite his lack of girth.

+k for a good, fair, and respectful look at what happened that day.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

Some talk on here about Widener's pass attack on the Mount D - I still think that Mounts D is vulnerable to the pass but the absence of a run game may play in favor of the Raiders. The Pride had just 94 and 97 yards rushing aginst Lycoming and Del. Valley (the #2 and 3 teams in conference) and then 146 and 91 against Bridgewater St. and Salisbury in the playoffs. I see the Raiders being able to pin the ears back and pressure the QB. Any success Widener has will depend on their ability to protect QB and give him time for routes to open down field. I know they score alot of points - but if they are one dimensional the Raiders salt this away early. I would like to see this be a game into the 3rd quarter but I think its going to be over by halftime. Prediction: Mount 56 Widener 10.

SeaDoggy Dog!  Are you one of those "sky is falling" kind of people?

So I did a little research, and wouldn't you know it SeaDog posted the exact same thing LAST year around this time.  Something about Mount having to go on the road for one of the play-off games.  So I think one of three things is going on.

  • SeaDog is very gullible, and his source can fool him all of the time
  • SeaDog is secretly a rabble-rousing Linfield fan
  • SeaDog also believes that the Browns are "this close" to winning a Super Bowl

  • ;) 8-)

Heard a rumor that there is no guarantee that MTU will be playing at home next week, even with a win this week, because they are changing the rules or something? Anybody else hear anything about this?

Just had a phone call with some surprising news. There was an individual that said they made an announcement in the MUC locker room at half time, that the NCAA announced the National Semifinal Game will be hosted by MHB. If this is true, why the H didn't they say so at the beginning of the playoffs? Why do it now, 2 weeks prior to the game? I guess they really don't want Mount to be in VA in Dec and are doing everything they can to prevent it. I will do some snooping around and see if I can get a more reliable source, than the person that informed me, but thought all you Raider fans would like to know. If anyone else hears anything, olease let us know so plans might be able to be arranged.

End of Overlook, thanks for your candor. You are a good soldier, and no doubt were a good teammate. When the wheels fall off the wagon all of a sudden you just have to wonder who was driving. Theaprof made a point about about the lack of girth vs the size of ones heart that sums up my philosophy pretty much. Gimme heart. Im done obsessing over it. The official verdict is as follows from this day forward. THATS FOOTBALL. LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT.

Hey Mr Mom, where is your quote from? Just curious.

Warming trend predicted for this game. Now thats what Im talkin bout!  :D

Hey Skunk_sidekick, glad to see you back on the board, its about time for Wings and beer night...soon!
I know #2 can't be true, SeaDog is a big Raider fan, and I don't think he cares much about Wildcats!
#3 I'm sure "this close" to him means about the same as the distance between Moscow and Miami, so doubt he believes that one either!
I'm sure it's just a matter of a source panicking and spreading typical NCAA hysteria and Seadog just checking it out with others here, he's not that gullible, lol

Hey Mr Mom, where is your quote from? Just curious.

"Eccentricity" comes from an oft-overlooked movie written by Neil Simon, "Biloxi Blues".

"Apathy" was once spoken by Dr. Doofenshmirtz on Phineas & Ferb.  [You didn't expect Shakespeare!  ::)]

I formerly used a variant of "I find easily offended people rather offensive!", but I traded it to HSCoach for two low-round draft picks and a cowbell.   ;)

I realize those of you here on your board have been concentrating on the upcoming next playoff game and you have had some great discussion on that.  However, just for a quick break, I'd like to pose this question to all of you.  I posted this over on our MIAA board, so would be interested to hear your own thoughts on this, especially since most of you are not only former college players, but currently coaches as well (or at least have been regarding the latter).  The post was as follows:

Here's an interesting question/dilemma for everyone to comment on in regards to your opinions on this.  I realize this is a DI issue, however, it still is intriguing.  One of Alabama's star receivers is now out indefinitely with a fractured leg sustained in this past weekend's game against Auburn (he had surgery today it was reported and it is unclear whether he will be able to return for whatever bowl game Alabama ends up going to).  So with him out, Alabama is down to 4 or 5 receivers and it is reported that Saban is considering using their top freshman receiver prospect, who was to be redshirted this year.  He has been practicing this fall and getting a lot of reps the past 3 weeks apparently.

So the question is...if you were that player, would you sacrifice basically an entire year that you were to be red-shirted to play in two final games of the season and then only have 3 years left?  I think that most of us would answer they probably would if the head coach asked them to, however, that would still be a very difficult decision to make.  You would really be sacrificing for the good of the team, but giving up much.  I think at this point, however, that certainly a head coach could also not be faulted for not playing him and saving his red-shirt season.  If Alabama plays in the National Championship game, I'd bet that Saban would persuade the kid to play, obviously because of the high stakes.  On the other hand, if it is another bowl game and not the title game, then I would think not wasting the red-shirt year would be the better choice i.e. the better part of valor.  But...who knows with Saban!

Anyway, it is an interesting dilemma and I am interested to hear your thoughts/comments/opinions on the same.  What would you do if you were the Head Coach and what would you do if you were the player?
It is a team game so if the coach asks you to do it you do it.  Especially since the stakes for the team are so high.  It is of course a sacrifice, but all of these guys are sacrificing a lot just being on the team.  The 60-70 hours a week during the season is a killer.  Hard to have a life outside of football let alone study for a real degree program in the time available.

Just read the great article on this site about Jasper Collins. His quote: "The advantage for us is that we go up against the best defense in the country in practice every day. They make things tough and do a great job of preparing us for games." really puts it in perspective. After working against that defense every practice, game day must often seem like a walk in the park. Even deep in the playoffs when the defenses keep getting better, they're still not facing the #1 defense!

I resemble that remark.

Could it be because West of the Rockies we are as smug, priggish, vainglorius as MUC UMU fans are on a national scale?

Do you still schedule some team for a "practice" game? Love to get in on that if I could figure out a way to underwrite it. We found the money to pick up a ninth game at Case Western Reserve next year. One year deal / only if we would travel. Please consider pressuring the AD to find out a way to schedule LINFIELD first thing in the season. That would be just peachy.
Thank-you for your time and space here on the Back Where We Belong board.
