BTW: how would you rate the ESPN crew calling the game? how do they compare with our favorite from ESPN, Pam Ward?

I thought they were OK ... maybe a bit repetitive, but were leagues better than the crew calling the Oshkosh game.

Don't think they are worthy of a Pammy Award ... http://www.awfulannouncing.com/pammies/pammy-awards/

Color guy kept calling him "Jasper" Collins instead of "Junior".  ;)
No harm, Jasper is his name.

Last thoughts for tonight.....

Saints Fan........

MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS AWESOME.........he totally outkicked is marriage coverage.  Mrs. Saintsfan is not only beautiful...she is a great trouper, and was all in at the margarita breakfast this morning.  My man......you done GOOD!   8-)

I couldn't agree more.  Still can't figure what in the world you did to fool her into saying 'yes'.  You did well young man.  Take good care of her.

What Ya'll (in honor of our guests from KY) said above! ;)

I had The privilege of joining Mr. & Mrs. Saints Fan for the game and breakfast at Pancho's......It doesn't get any better than that! Lindsey is a jewel and I have no doubt Kevin knows he has the real deal with her. Thanks you two I enjoyed sharing one of the most electrifying games you will ever see at Mount. I look forward to our next get together.

I have been very critical of the fans at Mount games for many years and I feel rightfully so. Spoiled! Spoiled! Spoiled! The years I spent in MN attending St John's games I really saw what great fan support is all about. Even in the tough times they put 8000 in the stands no matter who the  other team is. Cheering their teams on still with the same expectation of winning we have at Mount. Maybe we grew up as fans a little yesterday....I have never heard cheering like that at a Mount game before. Congratulations to the fans..because I believe you can take a piece of this win with you too. The support for the players on the sidelines when they could have been down on themselves I think helped them tremendously in that fourth quarter.

A hearty well done! ;)

One more thing.... the fans on the field was terrific after the game. That is a tradition I think we should look into. Not rushing the field exactly but a fan/family/player session after the game on the field. It is a great memory builder the players can share with their family. It is a great photo op for them with friends and family on the field setting after a game. I also think it will build a stronger feeling for the fans by becoming more vested in the team and its players. A chance to say thanks for the great game they just watched. Just a thought.

The only drawback is Alliance's finest "wanting to get the fans off the field so they could go home" Really?  :-[ That was their response when I jokingly asked them if they were standing near the end zone to keep the fans away from the goal posts.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I am giving a final at Mount tonite at 6.....so I got here early and am watching the replay on the huge overhead screen - wicked sweet! At the 3.02.20 mark the announcers say "For Mount Union, been here done that, but havent won it" - really? :o Oh well.

Just a few comments in observing yours:

First, while I have not met SaintsFAN's wife, it sounds like they are the perfect couple.  He is a good guy and from what everyone has said, she is a wonderful lady as well.

Second, I agree with you and your Mount colleagues that student fan support is important.  While it is obviously much more desired to have capacity crowds (or near it) for games, similar to what St. Thomas had yesterday (6,000) at the other semifinal playoff game yesterday (and like you mentioned St. Johns almost routinely has), many people for years have held to the premise (actually, because they have seen it personally) that you don't always have to have a packed house to have some tremendous crowd noise.  That was obviously evident yesterday at Mount's stadium, even though they only had 3500+ at the game.  Unfortunately, I was not able to make it down to attend the game yesterday due to a previous commitment-I was a guest of Raider68 who kindly had me down last year at one of Mount's playoff games and had a great time at the game and witnessed the neat atmoshphere and crowd.

You mentioned complacency.  That sometimes happens as we have all seen it (at all division levels) when teams get to that high level of consisent winning, such that there is a tendency by fans to expect a route of the oppoent weekly.  On the other hand, in this year's situation for Mount as you and others have described i.e. the seniors who have never experienced winning the national title, unlike many of their predecessors, seems to be a real motivational aspect not only for them, but the Mount students and fans as well.

Some final comments:  From what you describe (and my apologies if I have misunderstood what you are describing/talking about in this regard) that it appears having the fans and students down on the field after the game is a new situation/experience for Mount this year?  That is something that is an absolute routine in our MIAA and has been for years even back to my own pllaying days at Hope (and, of course, happens at many other schools) in which students and fans are allowed down on the field after to mingle and visit with the players and their families, coaching staff and administration as well as for those photo ops as you mention, including at playoff games (despite the sometimes ridiculous NCAA rules).  All great memories for anyone forever as you mentioned.  So if that is a new occurance at Mount (or something new to the playoffs - again, which the latter might seem strange since I've seen it before), all the better.

Nothing against St. Thomas, however, I seem to have the underlying feeling that Mount Union will win the Stagg Bowl this year and return to reclaiming the national championship.  It appears from the semifinal games, though, that it should be a great Stagg Bowl game this year.  I hope that the attendance will be on the larger side this year also.  I haven't been to it for a few years and wish I could make the trip down this year, but can't.  Anyway, best wishes to all who are going to it for a great time.

Much respect to Mount Union. Y'all have a great team, and a great program. Your team made the plays you had to to win. Still can't believe we didn't win after causing 5 turnovers. Just fell short. We will recover from this loss just like we have in the past...well reload, win another conference championship and make another run next year. FYI...we didn't steal your "first down chant"...that chant was probably used by UMHB fans in 04 when we played y'all. Jerrel Freeman's dad has been leading that chant in the UMHB stands since 04. I think your fans on the visitors side are to busy heckling the opposing fans to cheer for their own team...they were awfully quit during the 2nd and 3rd quarter...pretty sure most of em had already jumped ship and were getting ready to leave. However, most of the Mount people I spoke with were very nice, respectful, and had nothing but good things to say about the Crusaders. There's always "those guys" though...sweet ear ring bro!! Haha Hopefully well see y'all again next year, and good luck this week.

Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

We did steal the "you can't do that" chant one time. Lol

Wow!! Watched the replay of the game 3 times!  Unbelievable.  I can't imagime that the Raiders have anything left in the Tank, but then again they're much younger than I.  The one thing that stands out to me is the fact that UMHB did not score on any drive that they initiated.  They had to wait for the turn over and the short field.  I'm thinking that the UMHB staff was out coached.  I could be wrong.  Anyway, what a tremendous football game and a couple of fine football teams.
Sad that someone had to lose that one, but I'm glad it was UMHB.
Go Raiders!!!

runk

Wish the game was on Saturday. I wonder how many other people won't be able to attend. Great job Raiders.       Do it one more time!!!!!!

Mount may give up more than 17 but the point total won't exceed 24 for the game.  Here's something scary to consider...Mount has not had to put the gas pedal down once this season.  I think they might do that this weekend.  I'm expecting 50+ from UMU with a winning margin of +30.  Mount Union is going to go HARD this weekend.

I'll take some of what you're smoking.

I think this is going to be a game much like the Stagg against Bridgewater. Last team with the ball wins.

Ahem.   Hey Ric!  You owe me dinner. ;D

Interesting article on Mount WR's in today's Canton Rep:

http://www.cantonrep.com/sports/x1783181132/Around-the-NFL-What-if-Browns-had-drafted-Mount-Union-receivers

I will qualify this by stating that I am a Steeler/Pats fan - always have been, always will be. But I still want to answer the question posed by the article. The answer is - neither player would be in the league right now. The Browns would have drafted them and either cut, traded, or put them on practice squad. Cleveland, until maybe this year, just doesn't seem to give players time to adjust/develop before moving on to a new coach/system/gm/etc...

I was overjoyed that neither went to the Browns or Bengals - I didn't see it as a good fit for a 'team focused' Mount guy. I think we all discussed that on this board at the time. However, I was bummed - when the Pats and Steelers didn't take either. Oh well - now lest get an NFL team to look at tape on Kmic! Maybe they will say "ya know if Woodhead can do this for the Pats, they why couldn't this guy to that for us?".

Now- wow! I am still geeked about that game last night!! Watched the replay three times and it still blows me away!

I will qualify this by stating that I am a Mount Union and Cleveland Browns fan - always have been, always will be.  In regards to Canton Rep article the answer is clearly the browns would be further along on turning around the franchise.  I just got back from the Brown's game and witness an impressive win.  A great weekend for football to be at the Mount Union Purple Raiders WIN and Cleveland Browns WIN then while tailgating in the rain watch the steelers get beat soundly.  Some recent poster to this board commented that the Mount Union fan base might be getting complacent and all i can say is I was at yesterday's game and sure heard the roar of those complacent fans.  I wasn't at the steelers game, but I could see on my fan vision viewer all those empty seat in pittsburgh in the forth quarter of their game.

Next week i plan to watch the Stag Bowl on Friday then celebrate through Saturday and then cheer on the Browns on Sunday and cheer Pierre Garçon with LK.

formerd3db,

You pretty much nailed it as far as my thoughts. My bitch with Mount fans is they don't go because they expect to win. Well what else would you expect with any team you support?  You don't go because you think they will lose.
My point about St Johns is their fans show up and have to travel a decent distance to get there because Collegeville is out in the middle of nowhere. Their away games are  usually in the Twin Cities and they out draw most of the home teams they play
Their fans have the same Saturday chores we have ....rake leaves, wash windows, put away the patio furniture etc. We have such a great product to watch...if you are a fan of football why not come. Jump on board the Machine!

You are correct, this was a first for the fans to come on the field. And from what I observed everyone but the Alliance men in blue was having a good time. Fans coming up to players and just congratulating them on a terrific game. I bet the players enjoyed it too. I know I always did it at the SJU games. Wonderful attmosphere for building fan support and a feeling of ownership in the team. :) I hope we started something here.

And as always .......The Tommies continue to SUCK! ;)
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!
