Thanks for the link, MUC80.

I was hoping for something profound for my 1000th post, but instead I'll just wish my fellow posters a Happy Holiday season (if we survive the Mayan End-of-Time tonight, that is!).

And may nobody here lose their jobs because of my stubborn neighbors down the road in D.C.

Would have posted this sooner, but was out of town all week. Was listening to Monday Night Football on the radio and heard that Mike Preston from Heidelberg was playing for the Titans. That makes 4 OAC guys that I know of playing in the league with Trusnik from ONU and Shorts and Garcon from UMU. I assume this is the most ever. Would have been nicer if Kevin Harlan and Dan Fouts on the radio had had a clue about where Heidelberg was. They said it was in PA, and even joked that if you were listening on campus you would be listening on KDKA in Pittsburgh.

Wondered about other D3 grads playing in the League. Would be nice if someone kept a list with football like Ricky Nelson does on the baseball thread. He tracks D3 baseball players all through the minors and even the Independent Leagues. Someone with more time on his hands than I do.

I think your holiday well wishes is a profound post for your 1000th, mr. mom!  I join you in that to fellow posters here as well as wishing you and yours a blessed and enjoyable holiday season.

BTW, I guess those Mayan "end of the world" people were wrong once again.  I guess they and others will never get it - i.e. no one knows the exact time nor ever will.  So that's why we all need to be ready. ;)  Anyway, again, all best wishes to all for the holidays and if you are driving, safe travels.

Yeah, but it's something you only need to be right about once.

Well - Dan Fouts is an idiot. I remember him calling OSUs NC game against Miami - could not have been more biased towards Miami and Winslow if he was wearing "The U" gear in the booth. Anyway - as far as D3 in the NFL, here is what I have:
Pierre Garcon (Mount)- Redskins
London Fletcher (JCU)- Redskins
Cecil Shorts (Mount)- Jaguars
Kyle Miller (Mount)- Dolphins
Jason Trusnik (ONU)- Dolphins
Andy Studebaker (Wheaton) - Chiefs
Fred Jackson (Coe) - Buffalo Bills
Alex Tanney (Monmouth) - Chiefs
I know Michael Allen (TE/Whitworth) was with the Chiefs but don't know if he still is.

That's all I got. I think Tanney was placed in IR - but I also heard he may have been traded to Arizona.

Just checked and Tanney is still listed with Chiefs on the IR.

desertraider:

I agree with you about Fouts.  He (among a few others) has been embarrassing several times in that regard when announcing various games.  It never ceases to amaze me that if one is going to be an announcer for games, they should know "more than their usual stuff".  I can tell you that most people who follow college football not only at DIII but at all levels, such as yourself and many others here (including me), certainly know a lot more about some of those aspects, general or otherwise -at least as to where a school is located.  I'm sure they could provide him with an NCAA guide or college guide! :P ;D :)

Also, thanks for providing the list of former DIII players in the NFL.  Are not there a couple in the CFL also?  Anyway, best wishes to you and all the OAC guys here for enjoyable and safe holidays, whatever you have planned.

Scrolling through the CFL pages has yielded:

Tyler Beiler (Bridgewater) - Toronto
Justin Goltz (Occidental) - Winnipeg

I did find about 5 players from Concordia - but verified that as the Concordia Stingers in Montreal Canada - not Concordia (Wisc). I know that Nate Kmic was playing in Finland last year (year before) and Jerrell Freeman (UMHB) was with the Colts after playing 3 season in CFL with Saskatchewan.

And now I am tapped out. Merry Christmas to all - and a Happy Festivus tomorrow!

Impressed with something from ESPN for DIII football...

I downloaded the SC Feed app a little while back and just now got around to exploring it.  You can customize it to push specific teams and leagues for all kinds of sports but as I was checking out the football things, I discovered you can actually set it to push news from ESPN specifically for each of the DIII conferences and even the specific teams.  Granted, it's not like they put much DIII news on there to begin with, but thought it was cool they at least included the conferences and teams.  Just wish they had a general, "all DIII" tab you could choose.
