The fact that the head coach at UWW is interviewing for other jobs has to hurt the recruiting and feeling of stability of the program.  If you look at the programs that continue to be successful, the stability of the staffs is one of the topics that keeps coming up as related to their successes.  I wish him well, and know it is the nature of most coaches to want to move up,  but the Warhawk players and fans have to feel a bit jilted by his actions.

Raiderpa I understand your point especially in light of Coach Kehres' commitment to Mt.
Speaking for myself only, I don't feel the least bit jilted that Coach Leipold is seeking to move up the ranks. He is chasing a personal dream and I wish him the best.
I do believe uncertainty at the coaching position will hurt the program, but that's why I never got too comfortable in the fan's champion chair.
The programs like Mt and St. John's and Penn St are the exceptions to the rule.  I know you know that and I know the Mt fans appreciate it.

Raider fan here, but  I completely disagree. We have been lucky (SPOILED) with the coaching stability at Mount Union. Personally, I am not surprised that LL is looking around, advancing his career. He is a young, hungry, good coach. If anyone connected to the UWW program is jilted, I think they have their head in the sand.

Agreed.  IWU fans have been similarly 'spoiled' - in football, we've had two head coaches in 58 years (and Don Larson, the current HC, is showing no signs of quitting anytime soon); in basketball, we had Jack Horenberger for 19 years, Dennie Bridges for 36 years (he is still the AD), Scott Trost (the one exception - he moved 'down' to D2 after 6 years), and now Ron Rose for 6 years; since Ron is still in his early 40s, but an IWU grad, time will tell if he is a 'lifer' like his Coach Bridges, or a 'climber'. ;)

You won't get rich as a d3 coach, but you can be quite comfortable - and, to me, it is a MUCH better lifestyle.  You are an honest-to-god teacher, not just a media whipping-boy.  But that's just me - if Lance Leipold wants to pursue the $2-3 million-a-year life, more power to him. ;)

As a Titan fan, I just hope Ron Rose shares my perspective, not Lance's! :D

A couple of points, before we get carried away.  They've had three head coaches in 56 years.  If that constitutes instability, find me a stable program anywhere in the sport.

Secondly, there was a time that Larry Kehres was linked to nearly any opening in the area before he finally said no to the Kent State job the last time (when he actually almost took the job).

Just because a guy interviews for a job doesn't mean he's going to take it.  Sometimes you have to see what's out there.

And often it's simply a play to find how much you're really loved at your current position.  Not to say that the school will instantly give him a 25% raise like the D1's will do, but I would have to imagine there could be a few alumni that might "help" him see that staying put would be best.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

A slight correction to Toph's usually right on the mark comment. Larry didn't pull back until several years after the Kent State offer. It is not often discussed that he really wanted the job at Princeton but did not make the final group. After that he bought the house just off campus and settled into luring prime coaches into every sport at Mount. Instead  of promoting in house or looking for the first Mount grad, he has sought the best coaches Mount can afford. We tend to forget that he is also a very proud and successful Athletic Director. Personal hunch: Larry will retire as Athletic Director 3-5 years before he gives up football. And only if he can find an athletic director that meets his very high standards.

LK turned down the Kent State job but I think is was along the lines of what hscoach said than that he was really, really interested. Once the offer came, he realized it wasn't the right fit.

My understanding of the Princeton thing was that when LK realized the dating conflict... that recruits had to sign a letter of intent to the school before being accepted into the school, and by the time they were or were not accepted, the scholarships were gone everywhere else... he told them they would have to change that and when they said no, he took his name off that list. I believe the candidacy was down to three or four at that point.

Toph

My main point, disregarding the timing, was that Mount Union managed to do okay with LK's name being mentioned in several coaching searches.

If you consider national titles okay...

You know...if that's your thing...or whatever.

Thank you for the clarification about spring practice.  I'm new to D3 football and did not realize there is no contact in spring.  Let me rephrase my question....  What are the dates for Mount Union spring drills? ;)

My sons home from Italy. We watched the UMHB game last night. What was with #15 of UMHB on Simon's game winning touchdown?  If you have the game watch him come across the endzone after Simon scores. What the heck is he doing?

I want to thank certain OAC coaches for first of all their interest in my nephew a 6' 265 lb OL/DL from Marion Pleasant HS. Coaches Keheres (Vince), Coach Hallett and Coach Snell have said they would love for him to be part of their 2014 class.

They have also stated that they will be an advocate for Trey and professional football and said some very nice things about him in creative ways. Their compliments and comments are well received and will help in the difficult process of pursing his dreams. For teams to be able to talk to those who game planned against him, not just his own coaches, will mean so much.

UW-Whitewater head football coach Lance Leipold is interviewing for the Austin Peay head coaching job.  Leipold is among six candidates interviewing for the head coaching vacancy.

If Leipold leaves I wonder if Whitewater will be able to keep up the intensity for their football program.
