Mount continued to run play after play right into the line.  I was looking for them to get the ball to the backs with short passes where they could use their speed.  They ran one middle screen with success and never used anything like it again.

As we all know by now, one of the great hazards of internet communication is misinterpretation.  If you don't put an emoticon at the end of every friggin' sentence, it's easy to have your comments taken the wrong way.

Personally, I think the Heidelberg posters are just having some good-natured fun.   When I see somebody refer to "The Big Bad Berg", I picture a Happy Face emoticon nearby, with a Wink emoticon just behind the curtain.

(Note:  If I'm wrong, the Heidelberg posters should come on here and post Snarly Face emoticons, so we'll know they're some serious badazzes.)

Big Ed, How's this? ERR ERR, wolf wolf, ERRRRR

And dessertraider... we will enjoy the ride. Thanks.  ;)

Despite the fact that I agree that we should not be ranked Number1 because we did not play a good second half, but we lived through 7 years of WW playing poorly or really stumbling like Mount did and the answer was "Ya gonna beat the champ." If another ranked time beat a top twenty team,,,vote for 'em. I'm not knocking off Mount cause Heidelberg didn't let Alma get in the way too much

Doc - Thanks for the feedback on the other teams in the OAC.

Cap struggled on offense (190 yds) but that's to be expected with the new system.  We know they can't throw and it will take some time to see dividends running it.  In spite of that I'm sure Candeto expected more than 2.8 ypc today.  Defensively TMC was balanced and Cap allowed over 6 ypc on the ground.

The recap for this game was written from a TMore perspective and was not helpful.  Do you happen to know whether the quick change at QB for the Cru was due to injury or to just find something that worked?

Results from Week # 1 of the OAC Pick-Em is posted.  FCGrizzliesGrad, "Football Picker Extraordinaire", takes the initial week's competition.

Spreads for Week # 2 will be posted Monday night.

Watched the replay. Quick thoughts:

By my count they played at least 7 O linemen.  We knew we'd probably see 6 due to Fechko going both ways. What stuck out to me was that I saw a couple guys in on the last possession that I hadn't seen much if it all earlier.  There definitely appears to be some juggling going on to find the best combo.  It'll be interesting to see if any new faces are in early at Musky.

How many times can we say it....Burke is just a stud.  When people say a player has "it" he's pretty much what they mean. Kid just makes plays when it matters most.  Over and over.

I am excited about Tre Jones. I thought he played well.  And he seems to have that swagger that the good ones usually do at CB.  There's no question IMO that he and Spencer are going to be stars this year.

I was a little disappointed about the D line other than Rosalva (who made big plays).  Didn't hear much from Thomas or Lally. I saw them get pressure a few times so it's not that they were invisible. Just less than the high standards I have for the D.

Whoever pointed out that Woods hasn't played in a year brought up a good point that I needed to be reminded of.  He hasn't played a down of game action since November 12, 2011. That's basically 22 months. That a LONG layoff with your only action being the W&J scrimmage.  I'm going to be patient and give him a chance to work the rust off.  He's a talented kid. He'll be fine.

If Namdar returns and can be the deep threat I really like the WRs.  Nicholls is good. Meacham showed athleticism making guys miss. Wilkinson made another tough catch (something he seems to make a habit of).  But they were missing the burner on the outside.

Lots of 4 WR sets with Gainer out there instead of 3 WR/1 TE with Clark.

Across the board this team is very soph/junior heavy. That bodes well going forward as these guys gain experience. Both for 2013 and next year.  I'm excited to watch this team grow up this year.

Anyone else recognize the name of the side judge on the stat page?

What about the line judge, cinema buffs?

;D  I assume most of the posters here are a bit young -- and too cultured -- to remember Mr. Montana.

Just a day at the office for the Big Bad Berg!

Nice win for the 'Burg'. I am sure Alma gave it all they had. Forgive my laughter though. I mean on the one hand you have Alma. 1-9 last year, 2-8, 3-7...basically they are what 'Burg' was like 3 years ago - pretty sad. And then considering 2 years ago the 'big, bad, berg' had a handful of fans, ya know cuz they were so big and bad. Find it funny that one good season in the last 40 suddenly makes you a dynasty. Enjoy the ride.

Show a little class and don't intentionally refer to Berg as Burg. I am a Mount grad and find that extremely tacky.

Franklin moves UP six spots in the poll. Frankly, I have no problem with that at all. They earned that in my book.  That's why I like the D3.com poll...voters actually put effort into it.

Now I might ask about how #23 BW stayed at 23 while also idle Wabash moved up FIVE spots to 20. That's a head scratcher. Someone must have left Wabash off their preseason poll on accident I guess.  That's all I could think of!

Must have been a bunch of somebodies because Wabash gained about 70 points. BW also gained points so there's that.

reality check

Saturday morning, before following my Polar Bears' throttling of Alfred St. we played a little prank on our QB.  I sent him inside to get the snake from the coach's office and this is what he came back to...

His response is by far my favorite part.  One of my assistants told him it was a test to see if he was a leader or a follower.  You can see where he "falls" in that debate.

Early polls always have some confusing stuff - and as Wally points out sometimes a team moves in the rankings in a way not commensurate with their point total because of jostling around them. Things will settle down in a few weeks. As you said, it's nice to see voters put actual effort into the poll instead of automatically dropping teams that lose without considering the caliber of competition.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

I'm surprised Mount is still #1 in this week's poll.
