To the kid on WRMU - you are wrong!!!! I do want a 50 point blow-out in the opening game! My heart does not like these types of games until playoffs!
Sorry Desert, I'm with the kid.  I'd rather get the gut-check now, before the OAC season.  And the stress makes our heart muscle stronger, right?  ::)
No - the stress needs to "eased" in. Maybe a 30-17 in week one would be better.

I did UMU play-by-play last year, and I know the guy doing it this year... BUT, I thought the same thing. I wanted a 50 point blow-out! But it is true that the blowouts tend to result in really low student attendance at games. Literally the number 1 complaint from students that I knew were "the game's are boring".

Also from a broadcasting perspective when you have to be invested in a game, sometimes it gets really difficult to be excited in the second half when the game is already over.

Just a day at the office for the Big Bad Berg!

Nice win for the 'Burg'. I am sure Alma gave it all they had. Forgive my laughter though. I mean on the one hand you have Alma. 1-9 last year, 2-8, 3-7...basically they are what 'Burg' was like 3 years ago - pretty sad. And then considering 2 years ago the 'big, bad, berg' had a handful of fans, ya know cuz they were so big and bad. Find it funny that one good season in the last 40 suddenly makes you a dynasty. Enjoy the ride.

Show a little class and don't intentionally refer to Berg as Burg. I am a Mount grad and find that extremely tacky.

Get over it. Is it any different than referring to Wilmington as "Wilma" or Marietta as "Etta" or BW as "The Flaming Pile"? I did not create these nicknames - nor am I the one who referred to Burg as the "Student Princesses" in years past. Find it tacky if you wish - that is your right - but seriously? Get over it. I also refer to Purdue as "Perdue - I feel like chicken tonite!"

dessertraider, we would all appreciate a little better sportsmanship from you on these boards. I'm not 100% sure, but I understand sportsmanship was invented at Heidelberg back in the 50's as courteous and graceful way of conducting ourselves in the presence of our rivals. Many D3 fans and teams have adopted this philosophy over the years.  ;)

As stated in the HSCoach post above: "And the next 5 weeks aren't going to tell us anything either against Musky, Wilma, Etta, etc. " I fully expect that his karma will docked accordingly for violating the "feel good" police code of sportsmanship. Afterall he referred to Wilmington using the feminine "Wilma" and also stated that Wilma, Etta and Musky are essentially "not going to show us anything". Wow - I am shocked! The arrogance!! As for the origination of sportsmanship - I believe the way Burg defined it was 'the repeated act of rolling over for any team that stepped on the field against you for 30+ years so that the opposing team (defined as "field mate" so as to not offend) felt better about themselves and man in general".

Oh and BTW - if Berg40 is setting the standard for sportsmanship, then it should be easy to follow. Just use his "Titans" and "big, bad, berg" post as the guide.

Sorry HSCoach - your post was spot on and the "karma" hit was not at all serious.

Honestly, I thought St Thomas would have been the pre-season #1 with their relative youth last year and Mount being so young this year when coupled with LK's retirement.   Not saying Mount is all of a sudden chopped liver, but I could easily see how they could/should have started the year in the #2 or #3 slot.  Only team in my mind that "should" be ranked above them is UST.   Only other teams that "could" be ranked above them is Linfield and MHB.   Everyone else is in the rear view mirror until proven otherwise.

I said it on the air in the post game and still believe it today, but that tough win over Franklin could be the perfect teaching/growing moment a young team and coaching staff needs.    Sure, they made some stupid mistakes in the first half that kept it from being a blowout and then an even bigger one in the 3rd quarter to let Franklin back in the game, but they played with great composure late in the 4th quarter and made the plays that were needed to win the game.   And that composure and belief in themselves is going to be crucial to this OAC season and hopefully the deep playoff run that we're all used to.

I'm much more confident in this team moving forward mentally given how the Franklin game played out than I would be if blocked punt had counted and Minnich not dropped the handoff on the 2 yard line.   The game is OVER at halftime if it's 34-0 like it should have been.   And what does Mount learn by that except that they're really, really good and it's business as usual?   And the next 5 weeks aren't going to tell us anything either against Musky, Wilma, Etta, etc.   The problem then becomes a severely elevated opinion of your capabilities that could bite them against Berg, B-W or JCU.    Physically they didn't dominate the full 60 minutes like we're accustomed to, but Burke was cool under pressure and the defense (Rosalva) made the play they needed.   We know they have talent on the roster, albeit young, but at least they know now after a WIN what they need to work on and have the luxury of time get it fixed before the meat grinder at the end of the OAC season.

That game could very well end up being the same teaching/focusing moment the '05 loss to ONU was, but this time without the opponent Christmas cards.

Maybe the HCAC is just really improved?? OK, never mind..

Cap struggled on offense (190 yds) but that's to be expected with the new system.  We know they can't throw and it will take some time to see dividends running it.  In spite of that I'm sure Candeto expected more than 2.8 ypc today.  Defensively TMC was balanced and Cap allowed over 6 ypc on the ground.

The recap for this game was written from a TMore perspective and was not helpful.  Do you happen to know whether the quick change at QB for the Cru was due to injury or to just find something that worked?

I watched the whole game on the web.. Ineffectiveness necessitated the change in QBs for Cap. The real issue is they don't have the FB dive figured out yet and it was tough going without it. That said, I think they found their QB in the freshman #12.

Wow, it looks like they played two freshmen at QB.  I remember Longwell (#12).  I saw him play a couple times at Darby.  Nice player.  #13 I did not see even though he's a local kid too.  Don't make it to many small school games unfortunately.

I don't want to make too big of a deal about it but even with their issues with the dive and not being settled at QB, they really held onto the ball. TOP was lopsided.. If they can't get players into the program who are better fits, look out.

Wow. Mark Myers threw for 526 yards against St. Norbert.  526!!  TD passes of 49, 50, 57 and 67 yards.  Me thinks St. Norbert may have some issues in the secondary.

Raider 68

Anyone heard the status of WR Namdar, legal or otherwise? He is not listed on the Raider roster.

Good to know ... thanks!

I will say ... as a major-league bitcher re: MUC radio personnel over the years ... their play-by-play man was perfectly perfunctory in your absence.

So if you go Braille again next week, we'll be fine.   ;)

I think that's probably true, but I also think the JCU O deserves some credit.  Myers and crew have me as excited as I've been for JCU football in a long time.
