something to think about for the UMU-JCU matchup...
kicking
THe JCU placekicker was impressive and a fan sitting beside me related that he is "automatic". Having no reference, I will go with his opinion, however, Saturday with a strong wind he kicked well and hit a tough FG, albeit short against a gale.
Mount's placekicking?  Someone will provide stats, but I have not been impressed with what I have seen for distance or accuracy from outside XP range.
This could be a  factor.
Desert raider asked for a spot, Coach would be a better person for that, but I see a MHB type shootout going seven either way. IMO, Mount's pass rush and DB's will decide the game.

Regarding the T-shirts, the ones I saw were pretty neat because they said Beat Berg on one side and could be reversed inside-out to say Mount Who.  Two shirts for the price of one.  Good thinking there.

hey mount fans, i am seriously thinking about making the drive out to alliance on saturday to see the game.  in your opinion will the 6 hour drive be worth it?  you know i have done it before so the drive is not a problem.  it looks on paper like it should be a real good one, but i figure i can get better info from the guys who have seen both of them play.  will be looking forward to your comments.

I think JCU is a much worse match up than Berg.  Clearly it's been established again this year that Berg is mediocre on D.  They're Musky defensively.  JCU is not that.  As amonachino pointed out they did allow rushing yards yesterday though. And they weren't garbage time. Berg ran on them with decent results all game from what I watched.  The difference was Mees was what he had been in the past against good teams...avg at best.  Against Mount he was pretty darn good.

That's my concern....that a team whose base D is a 4-2-5 is actually built more to stop the run due to the strengths of those 11 guys.  The Raiders really, really need to get pressure with the front 4 because quite honestly I'm not sure they have 4 DBs that can cover. It definitely didn't look like it against Berg.

My glass half full ending...Mount was SO focused on the run in Tiffin that it opened up the pass. That will be flipped this week.  And offensively we are more balanced than ever. Mitchell has 335 yds in his 3 starts.  Those starts were Ott, Berg and BW so not too shabby on his part.  Add in Burke's running ability and big game poise and we can use a line we love to hear...JCU hasn't seen anything like this!  Haha. How's that for positive?

I'm currently trying to find a cheap flight from Tampa to Akron, so Yeah I think this is going to be a great game!

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Question: I know we'll talk about this game all week, and we have certainly seen would-be Mount challengers dismantled before, but when was the last time Mount did not win the OAC? I know they have dropped a conference game once or twice but the only one I can think of offhand, 2005 ONU, lost a few conference games themselves. Has anyone outright beaten Mount for the OAC title since this website was founded?

Edit: I checked. Not since this site was founded. So before 1999. Wow.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

1994 there was a Three-Way Tie at the top (8-1, 8-1, 8-1) with BW-JCU-MUC for the Title.  Mount got the Playoff Bid and BW and JCU did not get into the playoffs that year.

John Carroll students made a statement,a different one at that, when then were selling t-shirts after the game.  the shirts read MOUNT WHO?  is not John Carroll suppose to be for the more intelligent students?  they could have gone on the computer for the schedule for the 10th game.  why did they not do that.  now they may show up Don Shula stadium or travel to Mount Hope. if they do find out it is Mount Union what will they think.  I hope they do not ask the head coach how it went.

They were actually selling those shirts before the game as well as after...in fairness.

Personally, I would've gone with some sort of Catholics vs. Convicts theme, but that's just me.

edward de vere

Are there really that many Catholics on Mount Union's team?

Dr. Acula

I still have a Catholics vs convicts shirt for the JCU game that was sold by Mount students!  You could have hit both fan bases and doubled your sales, Toph.

amonachino

This game is the first PLAYOFF game for both teams.  If John Carroll wins they get OAC title and maybe a couple of home games and possibly 3 based on their rating. If Mount twins they will get 4 home games and OAC title.  The loser will get a home game and maybe 2 depending on final ratings.  they will both be in the playoffs and could very well face each other again.  the ratings are important to get that home game if it happens.  I feel that Carroll's def. is very good.  Carroll has given up 3.7 per game not counting Heidelberg.  mount has given up 7.2 against the same 7 teams.  Carroll has avg. on Off 40 pts. per game against these 7 teams.  Mount is avg. 53 pts. per game against same 7 teams.  The Berg game against Mount was all in for Hallet's crew.  They showed nothing against Carroll because they had nothing to show.  that bus ride had to be a downer the whole way to University Hts. Carroll was all in against the berg, even with t-shirts, they had to win to show the world who they are.  They did.  Now mount was not up to that level against BW,  This will be a VERY different week.  Carroll has called  out Mount.  They now must travel and face a team that if they play anywhere close to an A game or A- game will be very difficult to beat.  Three teams have beaten Mount in season and in the first 4 games of playoffs.  Ohio Northern, Rowen, and MHB.  This has been 1996.   I predict  a Mount team very focused similar to winning the title verus St Thomas.  Never wake a sleeping giant.  A record crowd is possible, the stage will be big, Carroll has faced 9 teams that gave them little resistance. Resistance is Mount's middle name.  Gentlemen start your engines!!!!!

I bought tickets last week for what I thought would be a top ten matchup in Youngstown next week. Now that that isn't going to happen I am considering giving the tickets back and coming to the titanic struggle in alliance.
