My vote for first team all OAC QB is Kevin Burke ("god all you Mount people think yadayadayada, blah-blah-blah arrogance" ;D) The reasons are: 1. His team is undefeated BECAUSE of him. 2. He accounted for 3300 total yards (2574 passing) and 39 total TDs (31 passing) with 5 pics. Myers is the #2. He had more passing yards by about 400 but fewer total yards (the negative rushing yards hurt) by about 300. He had 29TDs with 8 picks. Either would be deserving but Burke is the man.

The JC defense is a man to man  with a free safety 20-25 yds. deep.   Mount's 4 receivers covered m/m with 6 defensive players lining up in many different positions and coming with an attack attitude.  this reminded me of the 1985 Chicago Bears.  here we are and you better have a great QB and a very good off. line and receivers that can make outstanding catches to have  a chance.  I now see how they were successful this year.  this def. in combination with their high scoring off. was very effective.  even though the def. looks crazy, each player has reads to keep to make sure they are balanced to cover 90% of what could take place.  as a fan of mount, I enjoyed they ate humble pie.  as a former coach, I admired how difficult it is to beat this def.  this def. can only be done with outstanding personal and coaching. how many other defenses have you seen since like the 85' bears.  if JC  does not pull a "Heidelberg" I do not see them losing until they meet Mount for round 2.  Mount has to be a better def. the next time.  even though both offenses had 550 yds. JC put so much more pressure on the Mount off. then the other way around.  this was a great victory for the Radiers.  as I have said, the Radiers made the plays when they had to.  these 2 teams will provide  alot of fireworks.  Let the playoffs begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raider 68

Today's game was what is was built up to being. Great atmosphere, both teams played a tough
clean game and the officiating was reasonable for both teams. Maybe a call or two should have gone
the other way. We had a guest from North Central (NCF) and she was very impressed with the game
and she knows her football very well. Her son was a top LB for them the last few years.

A few thoughts on the game:

1. First of all, it was great to be there and this game was exciting like UMHB last year.

2. Kevin Burke is just amazing!

3. Great performances by L. Mechum and B.J. Mitchell today.

4. The Raiders have already played one of the tougher teams in the playoffs today.

5. JCU will win some games in the coming weeks.

6. This Raider team has been tested and has learned from it. We'll see how far they go this year, but
I would not bet against K. Burke and the running game has improved greatly since the
    beginning of the year.

7. Both coaches did a great job in preparation and execution.

8. The JCU receivers were as a group one of the best around, despite very tight coverage most
    of the game.

So now it is the playoffs with the Raiders likely going East again. It is now time to get ready for
the second  season. Congrats to the Raiders and Coach V. Kehres for  a 10-0 record and winning
the OAC. :)

Thanks Raider(and Mrs.)68 It was nice meeting both of you and seeing a great game! I always wondered what made Mount, MOUNT and I got the answer today. Have to agree with Raider on his thoughts as well. K.Burke is outstanding and was fun to watch. Good Luck to the Raiders in the play-offs. I would not be surprised to see a JCU/Mount rematch down the line.

Congratulations to the Mount Union players, coaching staff/administrators and fans on the victory today.  It sure held up to expectations as Raider68 has pointed out (also, NCF found out what I and others had told her about the great experience there and the excellent hosts such as Raider68 and his wife was true! :). Fantastic attendance for the game, some 8,100 at Mount Union Stadium-wow.  As I mentioned over on our MIAA board, the attendance at the MIAA title game between Albion/Hope today was very, very disappointing (certainly not like what it used to be, unfortunately) and aside from the disappointing loss for Hope (i.e. for us Hope fans and alums :().  Anyway, Hope all you at the game had a great time.

BTW, I noticed on the College Football Scoreboard program this evening that the anchors there (I forgot the names of who they are/were) mentioned the new all-time single game rushing record set by the 'Berg's RB - congrats to him.  However, those anchors mentioned it was against Baldwin-Wallace and they joked about that when one of them asked the other..."do you know of anyone who ever went to Baldwin-Wallace?" and the other answered "no, I don't know of anyone".  Actually, what a joke they are as anchors as they certainly do not know their college football history. :P  At the very least, if you are going to make notice of a highlight like that, at the very least you could find out some background info before make comment like that.  ::) ;)

They joked about that because SportsCenter anchor John Buccigross is a Heidelberg alum, not to put down BW. The ironic thing is the record had been set against BW by a Marietta!! player until it was broken earlier this year by a player from Western Connecticut. So the record is back against BW. Probably the most recognizable BW grad to them would be Jim Tressel.

BTW, it was Jessie Palmer and John Saunders. One played for Florida and both are Canadian, so I would excuse them from not knowing anyone from BW in an ad libbed moment.

To add to your comment he was the primary reason Mount came from behind to beat Franklin way back in September.

Watched the game last night on STO and it was truly amazing. The first half was incredible and the stop just before half by Munt was key. If JC scores right before half then comes out and gets the ball first too start - that COULD have changed the outcome. However, I am not so sure it would have. I wattched the game and what I saw was Mount taking the foot off the gas in third quarter. I didn't see JC really stop them so much as Mount not executing. That is not a slap on JC by any means - just seemed like Mount got comfortable and stopped being as aggressive. IMHO.

Based on the playoff projections (which would be SWEET!) Mount will roll into the semis. JC on the other hand would have the UWW bracket. If they were to make it throught that bracket for a rematch with Mount - wow. They would have already run a gauntlet. We shall see. Great game by both teams - here's hoping the playoff projections pan out. Have this fear the NCAA slaps Mount and UWW in same bracket to avoid Stagg #5000 between them.

motorman:

Thanks for the explanation.  I don't watch SportsCenter much any more, so I really don't know the names of the anchors.  Thus, didn't realize that Buccigross you mention went to BW.  However, I don't give the other two a pass...I don't care where they played and/or went to college, they should know that "stuff"...a) again especially if they (ESPN) are going to mention a landmark achievement of some player regardless of the NCAA division it occurs in; since ESPN obviously planned to bring it to attention as one of the "bullet" highlights, I don't believe it was an "ab libbed moment" ;D- besides they have behind-the-scenes interns (aides/researchers) who can find those type of statistics out easily and ahead of time and that should have been done;...and b) they should at the very least know that Tressel was at B-W and should have mentioned that.  Thus, to use one of Dan Patrick's favorite phrases on his radio show (and I'm not a big fan of him)..."The Mother Ship" didn't do a great job on that one! ::) :P ;D :) (of course, we have to keep in mind that Patrick has a somewhat biased opinion about ESPN and it isn't all that positive for various reasons for him, mainly personal).  Anyway, they (and ESPN) get(s) a C- for yesterday's assignment! ;D

Great game and great call by Ric as always, both of these teams should make some serious noise moving forward, both in playoffs and into 14' with the great skilled players coming back. Let's hope the NCAA has done it's homework (did I just type that ::)) and gets the pairings right and we could see a scary sequel in a few weeks

Thank you, I appreciate the nice comment!

Congrats to the several people on this board who predicted Mount by a touchdown.  Good work!

This is why I go to HScoach when I want to know something about a Mount game: in a private message to me which predicted a close Mount win in a high scoring game. 38-35 was his prediction.

Despite the insults thrown at him, he's a great representative of Mount Union Football.

Plus he's bald and rounder than I am - I like hanging out with him and I bet that's the reason Ric does too.

LOL. Actually HScoach is glad to have me around. If not he would have jumped off a ledge at some point by now!

What a great game.  I really hope that we can see round two in the playoffs.

A couple notes:

I think that Arth & co were upset more about the spike than the play after the spike at the half.  Alliance, Ohio has to be the only place on earth that over 2 seconds (2.2 to be exact) comes off the clock on a spike (the clock operator wasn't great all day, with 2:07 left he or she never started the clock in the 4th).  There should have been about 7 seconds left for the last play of the half.  Looked like home cooking on the clock at the end of the half to me.

I wish the defense could've played just a little better in the first half.  Could've changed the outcome.

One final question...why were the lights not turned on in the second half?  Is money tight at UMU?  Or was that intentional, since JCU is a pass first team and they wanted it to make it more difficult to see the ball?

Yeah I really disagree with your clock assessment. There was 2.2 seconds left. The clock starts when the ball is set not when the ball is snapped. It was stopped in the first place because of a first down. So a half second goes off before the ball is snapped and a half second goes off once the ball is spiked. I mean it isn't going to be instantaneous, you can't expect that. You're not going to anticipate anything. So you have 1.2 seconds to snap the ball and spike it.

As for the lights, its simple. It's either lights on or 100 pizza's in the press box. The pizza is much more important.

Ric

Get this JCU fans. Next year the OAC schedule flips like it does every few years. Because of this flipping of the schedule, you have some teams playing back to back years on the road against the same team. That happens to JCU next year. Mark your calendars, week ten, John Carroll AT Mount Union in 2014. Yes this is insane. The best QB in the history of JCU (yes I said that) and he will have to play AT Mount Union both his junior and senior seasons. Tim Gleason was behind me in the bathroom line at halftime. For an instant I really thought about dragging him in there with me and pummeling the $h!t out of him. First we have deal with CYA officiating, now this. Wait till JCU fans see next year's schedule. Its just ridiculous.

amonachino

RIC, where on the Mount site is the 2014 schedule?
