I leave the country for a couple days and I have a bit of trouble get online only to get online and find nothing but talk about streaming football games which seems pretty boring to me.  When I left the states there was a playoff game scheduled for Saturday in Alliance.   Did they already play the game or did we just stop talking about it.

The other is if someone believes that video would be glaringly harmful to attendance.  From Mt. Union's perspective, could they believe their long success has jaded fans so much that they assume the team will win, so why show up to see another lopsided game when one could stay home and watch, or check in occasionally?  This one makes some warped sense to me--however, also unfortunate if that is the case.

I think this is the same logic as the "local blackout" rule they have in the NFL (is that still in place?). If the capability to block streaming video to those within x miles of the game was possible, then I would think that it may be more likely that more streaming would take place.

Living in Columbus, Ohio with lots of family commitments on the weekends, it is very difficult for me to get to a game. However, I would gladly pay a per view or per season subscription to watch online. I listen to the audio streams for many games and usually all of the playoff games.

The caveat to the pay per view model is that once you ask people to pay for the stream, you get obligated to all kinds of reliability and quality standards.  If people pay $10 for a game, they're going to expect to be able to stream in HD and they're going to expect to never ever see a buffering circle of doom.  Those standards might be beyond what can be reasonably expected of a DIY, student-run operation.

I tried to tune in to see the first Linfield/PLU game this year only be met with a page asking me for $12 to watch the game.  It was hilarious.  But apparently that's the cost of a reserved game ticket at Linfield so that's what they want for anybody to put eyeballs on their game.  The problem is that they are equating the experience of the web stream to that of being there at the game, which it clearly isn't.  Needless to say, I followed that one with live stats.  Interestingly, the playoff game from this past weekend was sans charge.  No idea why, but I'm guessing it has something to do with giving that money to the NCAA...if I understand the "gate" process anything Linfield sells goes to offset their expenses and not into their pockets.  They'll get a bigger reimbursement from the NCAA by making that thing free during the postseason.

There is a game.  Mount Union is going to win by 30.  Or so.  The semis will be far more interesting.

You cannot charge to view a playoff game online, that's correct.

Only real problem that I see with streaming the Mount games would be the audio that goes with it.    Joe Tait and Harry Paidas aren't there for every game.   And those games would then likely pick up the WDPN feed.   Which means I would have to actually pay attention and have the calls right which is in direct contrast to what happens 90% of the time.   Most of what I say is purely made up.  Or wrong.   Or both.   Video proof would end my radio gig in a hurry :'(

Good to hear you are making the journey. I regretably missed last weeks game due to work commitments....the buggy had a flat tire, horse threw a shoe, batteries were dead for the lights. ;D

Plan to have my share of the Mexican Feast that is Pancho's too. I have not heard of a friday evening wing fest yet. Anyway look forward to getting together Sat. :)

Wesley has lost 12 starters to season ending injuries this year?  12?!  Is that right wesleydad??

I don't think it's that high, maybe, but a lot of people play (rotate as I am sure UMU does.) Just thinking off the top of my head:

On O: a tackle, running back, receiver and fullback. Tight end for another issue (but the new guy is better) and another TE with a knee who was doing a great job in two TE sets and goal line.

On D: Both DTs (and another rotator), a corner, a safety/punt returner (led D-III last year) and and LB who rotated (deep there.)

This team is young and maturing and should get lots of depth back next year.

Thanks.  I was just curious.  It was mentioned in some article from a Delaware paper that Mount linked in a Tweet yesterday.  That seemed like incredibly poor luck if true, that's all.  With a young QB, RB and their best WR being a junior it seems like Wesley is going to be set up really well offensively next year for another deep run.

Or it would put your radio face on TV and viewers would assume its Halloween every week..

But seriously, what you said above here made me giggle. I don't know why.

Would love to be there this week, but it's not really a big enough game for me to leave a 6 month pregnant Mrs SaintsFAN at home. I'd ask you all to keep me updated at Pancho's, but I know we all subscribe to the "What happens at Pancho's, stays at Pancho's" theory.

Maybe next week.

UNCLE!

Since everyone is picking MUC, instead of defending why I chose that spread, I've added an additional question to the OAC Past Season Pick-Em.

3 points to whoever guesses closest to the actual spread of the Wesley-UMU game.  And make sure I know who is getting the points ... "MUC by 64" or "Wesley by 125" ... something like that.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Just claim it was a typo and change it to 28.5  ;D

Perhaps the NCAA is the answer..(Oh Crap, I can't believe I said that)

Perhaps the NCAA should mandate live streaming from home playoff sites of all D3 playoff games to better serve the fans that cannot travel.
That would be a way to get things started at schools who do not stream live.  The reasoning is solid.  There are many MHB fans who could not travel to Mount last year and would have been served by the feed.
There may be many fans from Wesley who cannot make it this week that would benefit by the stream.
Then Mount would have to decide..stream or travel...

Not that this solves the problem....but the NCAA does broadcast both of the semi-final games plus the Stagg Bowl so the MHB fans did see the the game last year. A damn good game I might add. I think you can still see it now on the ESPN video sight. By... I think I will enjoy it again! ;D
